I was reading a thread on the free board and the poster correctly mentioned that Title IX doesn't apply to NIL, which got me to thinking...
1) On any given year, Pitt's enrollment is (typically) at least 50% female. That means at least half of your business target market as a university is women.
2) The financial barrier to entry to compete for national titles in women's athletics is quite low compared to men's (outside of maybe the elite of women's college basketball).
3) We already have an elite women's volleyball program and one of the best women's soccer coaches in the country.
4) Year after year, more girls are becoming involved in sports and taking interest in female athletes, particularly on social media. (Just look at the push the last couple of years with the WNBA)
5) Competitive teams draw fans and sell tickets (again...see women's volleyball).
Why not make a run and become THE undisputed top school for women's athletics in the country?
Be the school that every single girl talks about attending when they are older.
I know being a football powerhouse is way more exciting...and it's why we are all on this board. But the Golden Panthers don't exist anymore and even if they did, they couldn't outspend the big boys in 2024. The truth is, we can't financially go toe-to-toe with the Alabama's and Ohio State's or (Clemson's and the U) year after year. Yes, we need the football revenue and I'm not saying we tank the team. But purposeful reallocation of $2-3 million a year could go a lot further on the women's side.
If a small or medium-sized business tries to take on Amazon, they'll lose. But if they target business niches that Amazon doesn't care about, with a huge demographic market (half of America) and high growth potential...they could become the next Amazon 10-20 years down the road.
I'm fortunate to be able to spend large portions of my day interacting with business owners in different sectors. And it is always amazing to me how many huge business opportunities are out there that people neglect, even though they are staring everyone in the face. Especially with underserved populations with significant purchasing power (in this case - girls and women).
Anyways, that's it. I'll spend the rest of my day panicking over which of Duzz's players might be entering the transfer portal...
