Kithcart committs to Pitt

The 56th rated PG roughly translates to around the #250 player. Still, he may be a star or the next Newkirk.

You're right about Pattetson. He was Top 100ish. It used to be thay we would only have 1 or 2 fringe recruits per team but those numbets seem to be rising to 3 or 4. In short, our on paper recruiting is continuously getting worse.

Hmmm.... with the ratings services that had him rated... he was typically rated a bit under 150... while Manigault... was typically rated a bit over 100.

I guess, I would prefer we were bringing in players in the 50-100 range.... with some in the 1-50 range... if we can get them (I am not a fan of one-and-doners). So, IMO this seems like a bit of a step down from the past but we will see.

Also, the only place other than our home turf where we have seemed to get good recruits from recently has been... Maryland... and both of these players are from Virginia. So, maybe we are expanding our recruiting area a bit. But, hard to see us beating out UVA for the top recruits from VA.

Tough to get Eastern kids excited to play in the ACC? Tell me what league they are excited about playing in?

Well, with the breakup of the OBE.... those kids are not sure anymore as to where they want to play... even to the point where some of them are signing up to play for...Penn State????

In any case.... getting eastern players north of the Mason-Dixon line... is not happening anymore for us and that USED to be our major recruiting area.

This all due, most obviously, to our move to the ACC

Yeah, Virginia definitely seems like a sweet spot for this class, interestingly enough.

That said, I still believe JD ceded his turf too easily, like the French, so to speak.

It relies a LOT on the connections of your recruiters.

If he still had Rice on staff, good chance we view the whole Philly thing differently. If he still had Slice on staff, good chance we see the whole NY recruiting thing differently.

Even in Pgh you couldn't see some of Pitts conference games except on ESPN 3. Other than Duke and UNC don't think the ACC is that attractive of a conference. Maryland jumped at the chance to go to the Big 10. I'm not saying staying in the Big East was a viable option ,but it doesn't appear that the jump to the ACC has made it easier to attract talent.
Ps .Imo Slice was overrated and what parent would allow their child to play for a team that had Mike Rice associated with it

Didnt answer my question. What league are Eastern (assuming you meant NE) kids excited about? If Pitt cant get them excited about the ACC, then what ia exciting them?

OK. So the 5 NE Big East schools plus the Big Ten (but not the ACC) is what is exciting all these NE recruits? This is what we are going with?

I agree with you on this.

I just don't see how if they weren't genuinely enthusiastic about it, like Nards is, they could not sell these kids on playing in the ACC at Pitt.

My point was that if you can't get the games on tv in an ACC city it certainly isn't available in the NE. If your only on ESPN 3 that's not saying much for your program and the leagues mass appeal. If the ACC sells itself to recuirts we 're not seeing it at Pitt. Where they go well I'll tell where they're not going!

That is simply factually incorrect. Every Pitt ACC game last year was available on television in Pittsburgh. What you meant to say is that every Pitt ACC game last year was not available on a channel that you got from your cable or satellite provider with the current television package that you subscribe to. And I am not sure how that's Pitt's fault.

I have dish network with 7000 channels with Tulsa playing whomever on but not Pitts conference games. I was able to watch Pitt /Iowa Fb last week because of the big 10 networks second channel.not because an ACC/Pitt channel. My point lack of exposure doesn't help with recuriting .

You're not looking and not trying. If you have 7000 channels, then surely you have the sports package with dozens of regional sports networks. 5-6 Pitt games per year are on thise channels.

The trickiest games are the games Raycom syndicates to over the air stations (about 4-5 per year). They are avaikable for free in your market (where do you live, im assuming). No cable or satellite required. If you dont have a digital antenna to watch thise games, thats on you.

And while I agree that an up and coming PG isnt going tk go to Best Buy and buy a digital antenna to catch Pitt Clemson bc his family had DirecTV, he also isnt going to tune into PSU Iowa on BTN because nobody knows they even have that channel.

The lack of national TV exposure in the ACC is completely unfounded. We will never lose a recruit because some of our games are on RSNs or OTA stations. Geez, Nova and Gtown play on FS1 and they are recruiting like its going out of style. TV doesnt mattet anymore. Every game is on TV. Its not 1985 where the BE can say they are on TV and the others arent.

Trust me I've looked and I spend enough on the channels I have that I'm not adding any more sports packages. If kids don't see you and you think that doesn't affect recuriting I think your wrong. Also not playing games where you recuirt hurts also. Something is different the kids they want don't want to come here ,is it Pitt ,is it the ACC , ITS SOMETHING,

This is hilarious. You have 7000 channels but cant spend an extra $10 per month to watch 8-10 Pitt bball/football games on regional sports networks. And you also refuse to watch them on ESPN3 for free.

Pitt's recruiting problem is due to one thing: below average salesmen. That's it in a nutshell.

If you'd like to send me the additional $120/yr I'd appreciate it . I spend in excess of $210/ mt for those 7000 channels and a divorce isn't worth dropping the oxygen channel for a sports network . And I'm not sending them a dollar more .Plus I'm really not that invested in FB ,but SMF I'll think of you when I'm watching these games!

How many high school basketball stars have you talked to lately?
First I live in WPa so there really aren't many high school stars to talk to!
Second I guess you don't believe in advertising . Every time Pitts on national tv and their interviewing JD and showing off the city is an opportunity for a kid to say hey that place looks " groovy " (isn't that how they talk! ) I'd like to matriculate to that institution of higher learning and have that really cool white dude be my coach.

I just cant believe in Penn State's first 8 games they play 6 1/2 home games. How is that even allowable let alone possible?

First of all, DirecTV is a total rip off. Its so much more expensive than cable. Ive gotten fed up with my cable bill and priced DirecTV and Dish a few times and they couldnt beat Comcast even with their advertised low introductory price, then we all know the price goes through the roof when tge contract is up. Unless you live in an area where cable ia not available, I dont know why anyone would get DirecTV.

I pay $150 for Comcast cable and internet (no phone) and get every channel they offer which is way more than enough and 2 DVRs. When they raise the rates, I call up and say Im thinking of getting rid of cable and they lower it more.

Having DirecTV is your first mistake. If you have to keep it, add the sports pack, add it on Jan. 6 and cancel it on Jan 27. Pitt plays its only 4 regional sports networks games between those dates. For $10, you get 4 Pitt games. Wait, hold up, these games are on Root. You surely get that channel, dont you?
