Levance just said on twitter Pitt needs to hire Brandin Knight as Head Coach

He is crazy. I'm not even sure that Knight should be a P5 assistant coach. Guess we'll see if he has any demand when Dixon leaves, and doesn't take him with him.

Why is there such a disdain for BK as a coach? I never understood Pitt fans views on Brandin not being capable of coaching.

Foolish.

Maybe he can. Maybe not. But this job isn't the one to prove it on. Wright St has an opening I think. Go get that job. Things are a little different now than when they settled on Dixon.

If I remember correctly the Pitt players were all pressing the Pitt AD and admin to hire Dixon. That played a big part in his hire.

Hi Levance, wish you were still playing for us.

Ah, no. Pitt fans just don't realize that the players LOVE BK and responded to him. He can recruit the players. And in reality, recruiting is what it comes down to. I want someone that can recruit.

Post three.

I couldn't remember my password to my other account, so I had to use this. Instead of worrying about my post count, do you want to make a relevant point in this thread?

I have been close to the program for many years, so I'm sorry I don't have enough posts to satisfy you.

A. BK hasn't shown himself to be an effective recruiter.... at all.

B. His responsibility has been coaching the guards. Our guards have shown no improvement at all during the time that BK has been an assistant. If anything, they've regressed.

C. BK needs to prove his chops somewhere lower on the totem pole first.

BK would be a horrendous panic hire for this program. We damn better aim a lot higher than that.

I don't think BK should be the head coach, but some people are so out of touch with what is going on within the program to think BK would be a horrendous hire.

If you really have been "close to the program for many years".... then you should know that BK has shown absolutely no indication that he would be an effective head coach. None. Since he became an assistant, our recruiting has gotten worse and our guards have not progressed - they've gotten worse. His two areas of concern.

If Pitt hires BK to be the next head coach, Barnes should be fired.

Horrendous hire.

We have the $$$ to aim a lot higher than being BK's first head coaching job.

Especially since he hasn't done all that well as an assistant.

How does an assistant show they be an effective head coach? C'mon. That man Dixon listended to himself and nobody else. By no means am I saying he should be head coach, I understand he won't be and we can do better. I just don't like the bashing that goes on.

Tough for anyone to recruit when your hands are always tied....

He obviously made Fields better though. Levance loves him.

Would you mind sharing? I think we'd all like to know what has been going on, and how we got to this point. Thanks in advance.

You are correct sir. But Dixon was nowhere near their first choice then.

Like I said things are a little different now. I don't think we'll get Greg Marshall but I don't see any reason to settle for Knight.

Big deal.
Levance is advocating for his friend and a guy who was a great player at Pitt, just like Levance was. Not a surprise.
I see now some of our "fans" feel the need to criticize two of the best point guards in Pitt history in the same thread.

Well this is what he just said about Brandin when he was there

@Cwright220Eric @PaulZeise listen u don't know wat go on at the program I was there n he does a lot that's taken nothing from J Dixon

Yeah, being Video Coordinator means nothing. He was a quasi assistant. There is no doubt he had a huge hand in molding the guards and any players who were there. Among past Pitt players, Brandin was a HUGE influence and someone that everyone showed a great deal of respect towards.

They might respect him.

But he didn't make any of them better.

And he didn't recruit worth a darn.

BK was a fantastic player. But as a coach, he's not been even mediocre.

Well then you and I will agree to disagree. Like I said, you can only do so much recruiting when your hands are tied. You think Diallo went to KU because they had a better relationship with him? C'mon now.

Take recruiting out of it and just look at his coaching.

During his tenure as Jamie's top assistant.... which guards have gotten better during their time here? Our two PGs during the time Brandin has been Jamie's top assistant have been... Trey Woodall and James Robinson. Were either of them much better when they left than they were when they came in? Nope. Both were basically the same player at the end that they were at the beginning of their careers.

BK is the best PG in Pitt's history. But he hasn't been able to translate that into making the PGs he coached any better.

Wayne Gretzky was a great player, horrible coach. Often, great players end up being crappy coaches. Because they can't translate what they did to another player - it came naturally for them and they don't really know how to teach it.

BK was great as a player. But our PG play during his time as an assistant has not been up to snuff.

Just to give you an idea of how BK is thought of in the coaching community. Zags is suggesting the Stony Brook head coach reach out to him....Stony Brook.
