Yea, no doubt yesterday's offensive performance put most people to sleep, BUT...

That was the point. Pitt's play calling had as much substance as a glass of water. There was no way they were going to put anything of relevance on tape for the filth in the middle of the state to see. Especially with a new offensive coordinator.

I'd expect to see a whole helluva lot more bite to their offense when the scurge of the planet makes their way here next Saturday.

What's apparently not so obvious to most of the posters on this board is that the players, especially the O line, were not doing a very good job of executing the "vanilla" plays that we were calling. They weren't firing off the ball and moving people up front, and these were physically inferior defenders outside of #92, who had his way with us up front. I suspect they were thinking too much, and that's the byproduct of learning your 3rd offensive playbook in 3 years.

I don't want to excuse what I believe was a bad performance (I think they will be much better going forward) but let's not overlook the fact nova didn't miss tackles. They were sound defensively in that regard.

Again, I agree the o line was poor. But before I throw away the season and assume a 6-6 year, let's see how this team improves next week

vanilla play calling isn't an excuse for the performance. It's a reason to have hope things will be better as soon as Saturday, but it's not an excuse for what we saw yesterday.. We played bad, the line played bad, the WRs did nothing.. Vanilla play calling is one thing, the line's performance was another. It's not earth shattering revelation to say that if we perform like that going forward, we aren't winning 4 games.. But I have faith, teams cant get up for these games, no one on our team is excited and pumped to play villanova. I don't blame them, its human nature..

Coaches need to stop with this incessant lying about telling us this is like any other game. I said this in another thread but you cant tell us this is a real game but call it like it's not. You give us 1/3 of the play book, that tells us what you think of this opponent.. Call it what it is, a scrimmage..

And bad performance??? We gave up one sack, peterman was hardly touched. Villanova has a good line with big size and talent and loaded the box. Plus Conner certainly was rusty and looked it.

Anyways, really dumb to argue. We won 28-7 and we play many more games. Guess what? If we don't get another wr... And actually ford isn't even top notch, we won't blow out anyone.

This is only 1 of 3 plays Pitt practiced this camp, and dammit we are going to get the shotgun straight up the middle right. We ran 67 plays yesterday and Canada wants to prove the shotgun straight up the middle works. Penn State already has 9 players lined up against our 5 lineman for the shotgun straight up the middle, but we'll be alright.

Upon further review, Pitt called a stale game, kept most plays between the tackles against a stack defense. Boring game.
