Looks like Benz got his feelings hurt

Tim Benz is a sniveling whiny little punk. He was good in his role on The X morning show with Bob McLaughlin but his reporting skills and demeanor are that of an eighth grade child running for class officer.

If you want to run to your laptop and call someone a "podium tough guy", have the balls to do it in person, especially, from what everyone has said about him, that person is a little punk. I don't live in Pittsburgh. I know very little about him.

I'm not saying you can't criticize a coach, but show up after you write your comments. I know some writers that say there are unwritten rules. Follow the team so you have a clue, write Your opinion and back it up, don't make it personal, and show up afterwards.

For the record, his insult of a beat writer's work was a total joke. It was during his weekly press conference. He rips on Jerry Dipaola and everyone laughs about it. Its a good-natured running joke.

It's obvious it's just good natured ribbing between him and some media guys. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clueless.

he got his ass fired in boston . fired. he is practically homeless making 30K a year . and he is calling out Duzz. laffable.

When he started out at the X he wasn't too bad but near the end of his time there he was insufferable.

Like too many young people he acts mockingly, disdainfully, etc. all the time to get a reaction. Rude for the purpose of being rude. He's entitled to be a jerk because he's right and you're just stupid if you don't realize he's right.

I find it funny he referred to Narduzzi as a podium tough guy when Narduzzi played linebacker in college. Then I saw Tim Benz's photo and found it even more humorous.

I thought his column was pretty spot on. He does seem to whine alot about calls and throw players and coaches under the bus a lot

You should see Benz whine during softball games when we played against his team. He literally whined every close call and just about everyone there laughed at him.

Wow that's a name I haven't heard in a while. WTF is he up to these days. He fits in perfectly with the rest of the Pittsburgh Sports media. Miserable, awful, humorless, and dorky.

Simple solution... Don't buy the trib.

But make sure you let them know why.

Lol that's hilarious!
What players and coaches has he "thrown under the bus"??
And NO he never threw Chaney under the bus after the UNC game.

It sounds like Pittsburgh's media would prefer the mumbles of Chryst, the "riddle-speak" of Tomlin, or the blatant bullshat of Franklin.

An article like this would NEVER see the light of day in Colombus OH, Ann Arbor MI, Tallahassee FL, Austin TX or even Morgantown WV, because the people in those places wouldnt allow such BS to be printed about their local team!
Why is this crap acceptable in Pittsburgh??

I know that a lot of us here refuse to buy that birdcage liner. If it wasn't for threads on here, I'd rarely be aware of what any of 'em said.

I saw him on Sat. morning outside the stadium prior to KO. He looked like a little boy with his backpack on marching off to his boy scout function, make that his cub scout function for he is just a very small kid. I believe he entered into a verbal arguement with a pro gun person on the radio a year or two ago and was so furious and upset, lack of control, that he quit his job but returned a day or two later. I suppose one can say that a tearful Benz took his marbles and went home to mommy.

He's was actually fired over that because it was deemed unprofessional and inappropriate. Someone at the station convinced it to hire him back but he sucked then just like he does now.

Yes he did. Asked why Ollison wasn't in the game and Duzz said to ask Chaney. That's being thrown under the bus.

Disagree. The coach and the OC had a disagreement. Happens several times a game probably. You're pretty overly sensitive if you think that comment is really throwing someone under the bus!?

Yes, they had a disagreement. Then Duzz gave him a low blow in the post game presser.

Believe me I hate Chaney, but Duzz could have handled it better in the post game presser.

Needs to find a wife named, Mercedes! He may get a better gig that way!:p

Incredibly, his wife is the (pretty hot looking) social writer for the Trib: http://triblive.com/lifestyles/fanfare/

I absolutely loathe the guy - he's a worm. If he and Filliponi are the future of Pittsburgh sports personalities, heaven help the city.

Its embarrassing the level of sports writers that are active in this area. Nearly all of them are basically at the blogger level.

It is indeed embarrassing, and it wasn't until I moved to a different city before I actually realized it.

Tiger-Paul, I disagree......they are below many Posters that Blog on the Lair and your insights are far better than most of the Sports Writers!

I like Collier, Zeise and Starkey!

Living in the Detroit media market most of my life as a Pitt fan, I will say that from what I've seen online when I try to get some news about Pitt, your sports reporting in the two Pittsbutgh papers is sorely lacking compared to the Michigan and MSU coverage here. There have been better and more detailed articles about Narduzzi at Pitt in the Detroit papers than in the Pittsbutgh papers.

And you woul never see a piece of crap personal attack job on a coach in one of our papers. Criticism? Sure, that's one of the primary roles of the media. Sour grapes garbage like this? Never.

Maybe? I don't have any issues with the way it was handled.

Every coach complains about calls against his team. I would not want a coach that did not. As far as throwing players and coaches under the bus, I haven't seen that. Hes pointed out the obvious a few times regarding some failures of the players and coaches but nothing that I would consider out of line. I kind of like the fact that he will hold everyone accountable and hes not afraid to say it tbh. I think it can be a motivator if done in a respectful tactful way if he has the full respect of his team and coaches which I believe he does.

Wow that was such a terrible article I'm surprised it was able to be found anywhere. The line about the question regarding Fuller was just so idiotic. Is Benz basically saying Narduzzi can not admit that one of the best players in the country is that good? No, sounds like he wants him to say Pitt made adjustments but their players suck so it didn't work. Maybe that would make this clown happy. Why does the majority of the media around here just have no journalism skills at all?

I would think Duzzi would lose credibility if he made up some BS explanation as to why Ollison is not on the field on 3rd and 1 plays (Chaney did it again vs ND). Chaney should have to answer that question (maybe after he finishes chewing his donut).

Yes he did. Asked why Ollison wasn't in the game and Duzz said to ask Chaney. That's being thrown under the bus.
No offense, but you either aren't really a Pitt fan or you don't follow them very closely. Everyone knows Chaney has full control of the offense. He decides who starts, who plays, the gameplan, the play calls. Narduzzi said the because it's the truth, it was Chaney's decision so he would be the one to ask. That's not even throwing him under a toy car.

Also, everyone can see that ollison really struggles in pass protection (that might be an understatement) and perhaps the true reason he wasn't out there in a game we were down big in. Narduzzi might have also been saying that to deflect blame on coaches instead of his player. Ultimately we don't know what he is thinking, so it is pure speculation.

I think Narduzzi is refreshing how he speaks his mind. He specifically mentioned blewitt as messing up on the onside kick by over running the ball. No one interpreted that statement as throwing the kid under the bus. It was just Narduzzi speaking his mind about missed chances in the game

I knew there was something I liked about you and your posts? I have two Aunts on Mother's side, that married and lived in Dearborn with lots of cousins and came to learn about the Michigan and Michigan State Universities and Football Programs. My Aunt was part of the Henry Ford Historical Society and gave me special tours of his Mansion & Estate and Greenfield Village as an adult and toured the Ford Factory as a child. Spent much time on both campuses as well.

Also two Uncles on my Father's side one that worked for the Detroit News and the other Secret Service at Treasury!

Maybe because Pgh is a sports town where athletes make millions of dollars and therefore are open (rightfully so) for criticisms, insults and gossip. That is what the media is used to in Pgh and Pitt just gets caught up in that mindset.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation other than they are all unprofessional azzholes.

Yes he did. Asked why Ollison wasn't in the game and Duzz said to ask Chaney. That's being thrown under the bus.

No, he said [paraphrasing] "I don't know. You'll have to ask Chaney. There's a lot of things that go on during the game that causes who plays. I know he missed some assignments in pass protection." Maybe you should've read the actual quote.

That's pretty pathetic of you to call someone out from behind your keyboard. If you want come find me at the next game and say that to my face.
Some PITT fan you are. You've been on this board for not even 2 months. I have just a bit of seniority.

I'll just focus on your factual errors. Coach Powell has said in multiple interviews that he decides the running back rotation. Chaney has confirmed. If you know football you would know that an offensive coordinator can't be micromanaging every substitution. The position coaches are the main ones handling the RB and WR rotations.
Now why wasn't Ollison in the UNC game after the first two drives? That was probably an offensive coordinator decision.

And lastly your point doesn't show Duzz didn't throw him under the bus. Yes, Chaney controls the offense. Ok, Duzz still threw him under the bus. I like Duzz and hate Chaney, but you can't possibly watch the UNC post game interview and think Duzz didn't throw Fatzo under the bus. Duzz could have taken the high road, but he gave a snippy comment.

There's a difference between reading the quote and hearing/seeing the video. If you take off your PITT glasses you may realize that. They were talking about it all day on the Fan the next day. I'm not the only one who realizes that. I think Chris even talked about the comment on his radio show.
