  • PSU to Gator meaning Louisville in Music City
  • Duke to Pinstripe
  • Va. Tech to Belk
  • Miami to Sun
Not official yet but this is clearly how things appear to be shaping up. How both Pitt and NC State got "jumped" is beyond me. PItt had to have volunteered and appears headed to the Military now. Duke elevating to the Pinstripe is mind boggling. This makes our program look very second rate and is not indicative of the season we had.

Our fans are second rate. This has been proven in 15 years of bowl traveling.

I wonder which bowls, and how many ticket each, everyone has reserved on their bowl ticket reservations forms?

It only looks second rate to about 13 idiot fans. Nobody knows or cares which bowl is more prestigious in the general public.
Watch what guys like Cook etc write in the coming weeks. Watch how negative the spin is. "Despite an 8-4/6-2 record and second in the coastal, three teams below Pitt in the coastal went to better bowls. Including Duke, which travels worse than Pitt does. Pitt reinforced its image as a second-rate program."

You really have no clue.

Our fans are better than Duke fans.... and travel better than them.

Are they? Not based on donation levels.

When traveling is relatively equally poor in reputation, and it is, then it comes down to name recognition to sell local tickets and TV attractiveness. Does Pitt have that name brand over Duke? In NYC?

For general school recognizability, the average person on the street knows what Duke is. Not so for "Pitt". Reality.

That said, we should wait to see where we actually end up before jumping on anyone.

Vtech cant get belk over pitt.
6-6 cant take spot from 8-4.
Ncstate can take belk over pitt at 7-5.

I would think Pitt would have more of a fan base in NYC.

Because so many people read and listen to Ron Cook.

Believe me when I tell you this.... the only think that matters in this town is attendance and the record. That is it.

Tier 1 v tier 2 notwithstanding, the Military bowl v Navy is still better than Pinstripe v Indiana or Minnesota.

Frank Beamed aside, Virginia tech to the Belk is the more puzzling one.

Maybe? How much more? Enough to make a real difference in gate the day after Christmas?

Where would Pitt sell more tickets, because that is what is going to cost Pitt because our fans won't buy enough of them in any circumstance: the day after Christmas in Bronx, Annapolis on the 28th, or Nashville on the 30th?

I would bet the best ticket sale location for Pitt is Annapolis. But it is chiefly up to the bowls to pick.

There is no more 1-win rule in the ACC, the 1-win rule only applies if ND is involved.

There appears to be for this tier.

They cannot jump an 8-win team, if one is available. They can jump a 7-win team though.

Bit more clarity on ACC bowl process. If ND+FSU go to NY6, only way for VT to make Belk is for Sun/Pinstripe/Music City to take UM + Pitt.

Pitt *football* has a better brand than Duke *football*.

That's like arguing Indiana has a better profile than Pitt.

The football profiles are separate from the basketball ones..... and Pitt's football brand and profile blows Duke's away.

I think Pitt had a really good thing going, as far as perception goes.

Dropping below teams we smacked with worse records reeks of being small time.

Take the hit financially and buy the perception.

This fan base is so incredibly dumb. Nobody outside of a few of you, gives a shit. Most of our recruits have no idea how the bowl structure works or what bowl is actually even better.

They can jump us if we asked for tier 2, which is what is being said.

If I'm a coach, I use it for negative recruiting. I have 21 years in marketing with an ad agency, so I admit I look at brand and perception a lot.

I agree!
I thought bowl games are based on standings and where teams finish. How is it possible that so many ACC teams can jump us. If yes bowls are a joke except for the playoff bowls.

You really have no clue.

If you think that what Ron Cook writes in his column makes any difference at all to 99.9% of the people then there certainly is someone here with no clue, but it isn't who you think it is.

Seriously, Pitt fans spend an inordinate amount of time ripping Cook as a know nothing buffoon, but now Ron Cook is going to write (another) negative column about Pitt and you think that's somehow going to change anyone's perception of Pitt? You can't seriously think that, can you?

In the Pac-12, bowls must select in order of finish, let's join the Pac-12!
