Lots of Duke Fans ...

I was at the game and there was a significant Duke presence. 50/50 is over-stating it though. But I would buy 25% Duke for sure. However, as noted, the Duke fans were surprisingly quiet and Zoo was outstanding...so felt like 90% Pitt fans I guess.

Also, the Duke fans around me were not particularly annoying. I did tell a Duke fan in the concourse I was going to push him down the escalator. I was totally kidding but pretty sure he thought I was serious....so I kept a straight face and went with it. LOL.

I think it is interesting how Duke has morphed amongst "subway" fans. In those previous years, Ferry, Laettner, Hurley, and the whitest black men ever in Grant Hill and Shane Battier, the Dookie fans were mostly white, suburban, upper middle class kids and adults.

Now with their endless procession of NBA lottery one and dones, people like Jay Z following them, Duke is now cool amongst urban America.

Now it is the Big 10 and ND teams that white, suburban kids follow.

There were actually fewer Duke fans than I expected, I'd guess about 30 %. And much less obnoxious than I expected. Maybe because it was a late game and all the high school kids had to be home early.

Lol. This 10% talk is laughable. Stop trying to excuse pitt fans pathetic support of the team.

It was 60/40...maybe closer to 50/50 outside the zoo.
I'm not excusing anything. The Pitt fans on hand made noise. You have an opinion on the number of Dookies. So do I. Unless we vetted all 12K patrons, your guess is as good as mine. This is actually a silly debate. The Pete was packed, the atmosphere was rocking, the clearly better team won. Please change your wet blanket.

I think that's interesting. Coach K really changed philosophy. Used to have a certain style, kids would hardly ever leave early for the NBA. Now they fully embraced the one & done's. A friend who was a former "subway" fan no longer follows them for that reason...not the same Duke according to him.

I think, bottom line, Coach K is a coach who wants to win. And given the choice of a roster with Zion, Elton Brand, etc, and a roster with seniors like Hurley, Ferry, etc, he's going to take the roster that gives him the best chance of winning.

Even Zeise with a nice article about how it felt like the good ole days (which really were not that long ago)

So don’t you think the narrative would be “lots of Duke fans” if that were really the case?

90/10

I was at the game and was expecting to see a lot more Duke fans. I would estimate in the 20-25% range and the ones I interacted with were fine. One guy flew in from Texas just for the game. No clue how anyone could get 40% let alone 50 for that crowd.

Sorry to have created such a divisive thread. Wasn't my intention. I just hate seeing a large number of opponent shirts in ANY Pete crowd.

In the lower bowl, to me is seemed like 10-20% Dukies. I didn't get a good look at the upper bowl.

The duke fans that are here are beyond obnoxious.
Every fan base has their "moronic minority". The Dukies near me were all first class. Two were escorted out of 122 or 123, about two sections from me. I overheard one Duke fan say "those kind of fans are embarrassing".

Yeah, 10 - 20% in the lower level is about right. 60/40 or 50/50 is just silly.

I'd go with about 15% in the lower bowl. I wish it were more. It's good when out-of-towners come to the city and spend their money.

If you think anymore that’s 2% of those folks were here from out the area-
You’re an optimist.
Vast majority are T-shirt fans who’s rooting interest in duke was stopping by Walmart.
I say this as someone who worked at duke and who’s wife is currently employed by duke -
With multiple family members who are duke alumni.

We were all in for Pitt during the game.
