Luka Doncic has been traded to the Lakers for Anthony Davis. Wow!
For me, More reason to hate the Lakers

Very lopsided trade.Luka Doncic has been traded to the Lakers for Anthony Davis. Wow!

It's crazy that generation talent guys like him and Zion can't stay out of the drive thru lane.Clearly, Luka wore out his welcome. No way Dallas initiates let alone makes that trade unless there is something amiss.
I was told Iwhen I said Zion would have to work on his body for the NBA that I was nuts. Granted he wasn’t fat. He’s a load. But he’s just too big. He needs to lean out considerably. Imagine what he’d be capable of at a reasonable weight - scary thought. It's crazy that generation talent guys like him and Zion can't stay out of the drive thru lane.
I read that they are frustrated with his lack of conditioning and his excess weight. He is reported to be around 260 pounds.I was told Iwhen I said Zion would have to work on his body for the NBA that I was nuts. Granted he wasn’t fat. He’s a load. But he’s just too big. And yea Luka is just up and down and maybe the Mavs are tired of it. And maybe there’s more to it as well.

It sure seems like they did not get a good return for him.All that may be true, but it's still a really bad return on an asset. If they were going to trade him they should have quietly made it known around the league that they would be willing to listen to offers. Because based on what other, lesser players have been worth in trade value, they could have gotten a heck of a lot more for him than what they did.
I realize this isn’t an original thought - lots of it on Twitter. But it wouldn’t be a surprise if there’s more here. A young guy like that who’s so talented should net a bigger return. It sure seems like they did not get a good return for him.
I know right - especially when you have $350MM on the table. It's crazy that generation talent guys like him and Zion can't stay out of the drive thru lane.
And if the rumors of him not giving Jason Kidd a heads up on the pending trade makes him someone that's not long for that seat. Here’s an interesting tidbit: this Mavericks GM was the same Nike executive who lost Steph Curry to Under Armour 12 years ago. He reportedly kept calling him ‘Seth’ and used the same slide deck they presented Kevin Durant.
Some people just fail upwards, huh?![]()

Cuban sold a large stake in the Mavs and is now only a minority owner. He said he was not told about the deal prior to it happening. There is no logical explanation for why a franchise would trade away one of the best 5 players in the NBA who is just entering his prime. Luka is going to win multiple championships with the Lakers and be up there as a Lakers great with West, Magic, Kareem, Kobe, Shaq and LeBron if he doesn't eat his way out of superstardom.Did contract have anything to do with it? How many years was Luka under contract for with Dallas? Maybe the Mavs thought they were not going to be able to keep him long term, or that he wasn't going to be worth the market price of the next contract. In other words, did they pull a Bob Nutting type move?
I thought Cuban was a big analytics guy, and therefore the Mavs made a lot of decisions based on analytics. Do analytics suggest Luka takes too many shots or something like that?
Apparently there’s enough motivation. There aren’t too many heavy guys in the NBA. And those that remain heavy inevitably run into issues. If you are extremely wealthy and never have to work a day in your life, how much motivation is there to give up the drive-thru? Sure, there is hundreds of millions of more dollars on the table but these guys are already insanely rich and want to enjoy some Chick Fil A.
You sound exactly like someone who doesn't understand big money and how intoxicating it is. You think because rich people who are rich just dismisses the possibility of making more money. Clearly, you've never been on Wall Street. Hint....rich people become rich because they love money - not because they feel the have enough. If you are extremely wealthy and never have to work a day in your life, how much motivation is there to give up the drive-thru? Secondly, you've never been around professional athletes - all they do is talk about money. They measure themselves with their peers by money - not champions, not MVPs...it's MONEY!!That is true for entrepreneurs but for athletes Zion and Luka, you dont think its possible these guys say "I'm already rich as eff, I want to enjoy myself."
If you want to talk specifically, sure. There are those who may have other priorities. There have been plenty of examples. Oliver Miller and Hot Plate Williams from back in the day come to mind. And that was before this outrageous money. But by and large guys keep in shape. That is true for entrepreneurs but for athletes Zion and Luka, you dont think its possible these guys say "I'm already rich as eff, I want to enjoy myself."
Very surprising they didn't at least make a few calls, shop him around and maximize a return.Apparently there’s enough motivation. There aren’t too many heavy guys in the NBA. And those that remain heavy inevitably run into issues.
Barkley went from a fat guy to a great player. Had he remained as he was in college he’d have been out of the league.
If the Mavs were concerned about signing Luka to a super max, and they probably were, it’s because Luka can’t control himself. If he was always in shape it’s a no brainer - you sign him, period. And the fact that this was done so silently and quickly indicates they wanted to be done with him. Didn’t even shop him around and try to maximize a return.
They didn't want to maximize a return, since the casino/arena they want in Dallas isn't happening, they're tanking the next few seasons so they can move to Vegas.Very surprising they didn't at least make a few calls, shop him around and maximize a return.
The NBA is a sport where you can go from your prime to over the hill fairly quickly if you don't take good care of yourself.
Joel Embiid is another talent that can't seem to push himself away from the table.
Luka is actually super talented and plays .It's crazy that generation talent guys like him and Zion can't stay out of the drive thru lane.
Guaranteed contractsI know right - especially when you have $350MM on the table.

If attendance drops enough and no new arena is in sight they’ll let them move, basically what happened when the Sonics moved to Oklahoma City and in baseball with the A’s move to Vegas. Also, Dallas-Ft. Worth would be a much more lucrative expansion market compared to Las Vegas.I can't imagine that the NBA would allow that to happen. It's not like they can just decide to move to the most lucrative potential expansion city and everyone will shrug their shoulders and say, "huh, maybe we should have thought of that."
