Narduzzi is not a great coach. He may not even be a good one. He benefits from an incredibly weak Coastal Division that is no better than the Big East. He is grotesquely overpaid. He has had, let's see, four offensive coordinators and the offense is an embarrassment. He may run a tight program regarding academics and he is keeping his players out of bar fights, but on the field his team is an embarrassment to the university. 260 yards in penalties and numerous dropped passes show a very poorly coached team.

The drumbeat to run him out has already begun. When the two major dailies in town spend time attaching him, Lyke should know her job is on the line. What does she tell Narduzzi about the penalties and dropped passes?

She is responsible for the ill-advised extension, the Fanta grape soda fiasco which made the national ridicule lists, and the general state of mediocrity which surrounds the program.

Give Pitt credit for stepping up with regard to the head coach's salary. It's time for Lyke to exercise some control over the money that's being invested in a coach that is not going to get any better. Pitt's paying top dollar. It should expect a top dollar performance. And the buck stops not with Narduzzi, who is obviously limited in many ways, but with Lyke. Step up Heather, or step out.

Lyke inherited the worst athletic department in the Power-5, give her some time.

Pitt needs to fix the offense maybe new OC or Oline coach try something but right now according to rivals Pitt next recruiting class is ranked 22 and that's the highest its been in awhile. The defense is on solid ground for the next few years. Offense has to improve. The dropped passes and penalties can be fixed.

Ah, come on guys, you watch college football. You know that when a team take too many penalties the Athletic Director goes right down to the field in the middle of the game and reads him the riot act. And then hold a presser right after the game to rip the coach a new one. It's just the way that things are done at the highest level of college sports.

Athletic Directors who discuss things like this in private with their coaches are suckers. Obviously.

Hopefully, at 4-8 he can hold his recruiting class together. Unfortunately, I have my doubts

Seriously
A total dumpster fire and she’s doing a great job
Don’t worry - she’s well aware of Narduzzi’ mediocre performance
This is exactly right. I’m as unhappy as anyone with Narduzzi, but you don’t fire coaches mid-season, unless there are multiple grotesque things going on in your program.

Is this the same guy on the pay board who's every post eventually boils down to:
1) This is all Lyke's fault
2) Fire Lyke
3) Hire Jim Tressel as AD

Yes, there is actually some dude on the pay board who has like 350 messages, 342 of those messages say this.

Whether private or public, her job IS to monitor the program.

You obviously don't have a real team if your football coach has to answer to the athletic director.

As much as it pains me to say this I don't think firing Narduzzi is the right thing at this time. He is building strong pipelines in Florida. His D line depth is insane for the near and distance future and we are making in roads to some talent in the DMV. Lykes best move in my opinion is to get more involved in the day to day operations. Become more visible at practice and not to be buddy buddy. Take notes ask questions and pull in players to get a deeper understanding of the issues and then develop a corrective action plan for Duzz with measurable progress check points.

She already agreed to pay him so MAKE him do his job.

It’s year 6. If the AD has to take the time out of her busy schedule to keep tabs on the day to day operations of the football team, the head coach should he fired. Name just ONE AD doing what you suggested.

How do you know she’s not in the “the refs stole 2 games from us” club?

Clearly, PittMiamiRivarly, they overlooked YOU before they hired Heather. What a mistake. When she gets canned, I'm sure you'll be Pitt's top candidate to replace her. You clearly have the right management philosophy and yor finger on the pulse of important issues.

One who was stupid enough to give a 7 year extension to a coach that went 5-7.....

A) That's the price you pay to play with the big boys in college football. If you don't lock up your coach, that is used against them in recruiting. So even if he is barely above the Mendoza line, you have to extend, or cut ties.

B) This is hardly a unique situation to Pitt. Tennessee just gave a big contract to Pruitt thinking he was "the one", ignoring the fact his modest win streak to end the season was not exactly against a "gauntlet". That decision not looking too good now either.

This is beyond comical at Tennessee.

So his QB throws a pick 6 TWICE against Kentucky and his offense only puts up 7 points. Sunday, Pruitt fires his defensive line coach that he just hired 7 months ago. In a COVID season, no less. The assistant had a 2 year contract, so the Vols are on ther hook for that money too.
That's a bad look for Pruitt, imo.

There wasn't anyone who thought it was a bad idea when that extension was given. It's still pretty easy to defend.
You can't be serious. No one? That is ridiculous to think no one had a problem with it. Did people express understanding for how this program needed some stability....yes. Was everyone all in on Duzz to the tune of a 7 year financial commitment that would make it difficult to cut ties if 5-7 was not an anomaly and a blip on the radar? HXLL NO!

I'm a Narduzzi sheep, but I thought 7 years was a bit excessive. Not against an extension, as that is the way the game is played bwtween coach/school/agent. But if he had totally cratered after that... well, it would not have been good to put it mildly.

"Lyke should know her job is on the line"

This made me giggle. If anything, PITT may have to fight to keep her.

No they won't and they won't even try to get into any bidding war. In all honesty, what has she done very well with the sports that pay the bills? She hired Jeff C, that is still not a plus or minus, I still have hope for him , she gave Duzz a crazy contract extension, that's a big negative

so what would you have done? You have two choices, extend or cut loose? Cause if you don't extend, you leave him withering on the vine and you will have to cut loose in two years since recruiting would plummet.

So tell, you're the AD, what do you do after the 2017 season?
