Lyke failing to monitor Narduzzi 260 yards in penalties

so what would you have done? You have two choices, extend or cut loose? Cause if you don't extend, you leave him withering on the vine and you will have to cut loose in two years since recruiting would plummet.

So tell, you're the AD, what do you do after the 2017 season?
This myth that recruiting plummets if Narduzzi doesn’t get an extension is absolutely ridiculous. If Saban or Dabo announce today that this is their last season as HC, I would bet everything I own that their recruiting doesn’t plummet. Kids at Pitt realize they haven’t won a thing except a tie breaker which granted them a pass to get slaughtered by Clemson on National TV. The Narduzzi era has been an underwhelming failure in just about every measure imaginable

Extending Narduzzi was a pretty bad idea, but Lyke has done great in every other aspect. Also, it was a tough situation for the reasons mentioned above.

That said, there are still WAYYYY too many people defending Narduzzi. He is a failure, who's best two years were built on the back of players from the previous coach.

Chryst got Rushel Shell, Jordan Whitehead and Dorian Johnson all to commit and they were all considered 5 stars by one or more recruiting service. How many 5 stars has Narduzzi got to commit? You’re absolutely right here.

not to mention guys like Conner, Boyd, hall, ollison, the te’s and oline. The defense wasn’t nearly as devoid of talent as it was made out to be.

Exactly. Many forget that Conner was a DE that Chryst turned into an ACC Player of the Year Running back in 1 season. Matt House was in over his head as DC, and that’s a big reason why Pitt struggled on defense. Paul Chrysts recruiting is one of the most under appreciated things from Pitt fans in a long time. Chryst also took a gamble in late January on a WR from Wisconsin named Jester Weah who outside of Maurice Ffrench and Quadree Henderson was the most explosive WR Narduzzi has had. Chryst recruited 2 of the 3

You forgot no QBs, no DL and no LBs.
No one is saying they both don’t have flaws, however narduzzi hasn’t recruited wr’s, te’s, the oline, lb’s all that well, rb’s...so it’s a pick your poison sort of thing.

I will simply say though if I’m going to be a team that calls out at 8-4 I’d rather have an offense that can go blow for blow with another team...it gives more chances at a Clemson upset than hoping to hold them to 20 points and winning.

also, on the defensive end, Soto was a good player, so was rori Blair. Matt galambos got looks. Capara was a very solid college lb.

Again, it wasn’t sensational, but I would say that narduzzi’s offensive recruiting is equally worse.

there is some truth to this

especially since we see the same issues now. We all thought Maddox and Lewis sucked when they were here, but it turned out that unless you are revis leaving corners in an island against bigger receivers is asking for disaster.

The question is, when someone like Hamlin leaves will he play in the league? He has looked ok here, but is narduzzi’s system only to be executed by eliteDb’s...somewhere I think Paris ford likely falls.

Nailed it

It's not hard to figure out where a lot of it is coming from.
These guys!!!

You can't be serious. No one? That is ridiculous to think no one had a problem with it. Did people express understanding for how this program needed some stability....yes. Was everyone all in on Duzz to the tune of a 7 year financial commitment that would make it difficult to cut ties if 5-7 was not an anomaly and a blip on the radar? HXLL NO!

Pretty much everyone.

I'm a Narduzzi sheep, but I thought 7 years was a bit excessive. Not against an extension, as that is the way the game is played bwtween coach/school/agent. But if he had totally cratered after that... well, it would not have been good to put it mildly.

The school needed to show recruits and alumni that there was a commitment to the program. The program never cratered. It was a good gamble.
