He is a wr they need to continue to develop. And obviously he is great for the run game (blocking).
Mathews had a really nice catch and run in the 1st half.

They should be developing him into a tight end. Someone needs to get in this kids ear and tell him he's got a shot at the next level as a TE.
Seems he lines up on occasion as TE..
did you see his reactions as Hall ran for the long TD ! He gets fired up !

The question is, why don't we see more of these kind of plays... fast releasing, low risk, have had success... more than once a game?
We prefer to run/throw the short out pattern. It’s called often and when it is our QB doesn’t look elsewhere, although probably because there are no other designed options on the play.
Really liked the play. Run it for Ffrench or Carter & they are a threat to take it to the house. Like you said low risk & key is we get rid of it fast so don’t have to worry about pass blocking.
Even with limited snaps, Mathews appears on the field more often than his Clairton teammate up in State College.
