Meleek decision, 11/11

Are donors really that petty?

I think a lot of them would appreciate an attempt to get the program in a position to land a talent like Meleek.
Yes
If the school maintains a small about of comp
Tickets for MVPs, it likely isn’t noticed .
But let’s be real - that’s more a glad handing big wig current donors or Steelers/Pens celebrities .

Our fans sued Pitt over reseating based on priority points .

Who else should we comp prime seats to ?
Why should actual donors get bumped ?
The cost is pissing off those who have those seats
Making actual donors mad to chase a whale who isn’t actively looking to attend is a terrible strategy .
Yes, we should comp prime seats to whales. None of the other donors would be pissed, because they're tired of doing all the heavy lifting. In fact. they'd probably pay for the seats.

Did you see the attendance for Gardner Webb?

A terrible strategy is thinking you're going to compete without a whale(s).

Yeah - I was at the game .
You think he’s coming to that type of game ?
That cost was prohibitive?
I grabbed section 121 tix for $21 each

Then you'll know there was plenty of room, including the courtside seats, because the donors you're worried about didn't care enough to be there. So I hardly think they'll be concerned with a potential whale getting comp'd a few seats while being hosted by the AD.

It has nothing to do with seat costs vs his tax return. You do whatever it takes to get him there, rather than hope he buys seats and shows up on his own.

Hey
Let’s also rotate those seats to fans who play powerball , in the hopes they will be so grateful they donate a big chunk !

So , I have to ask -
Are there specific examples of these multi-millionaires being converted as whale donors with no previous affiliation to the college or team ?!?

I'm pretty sure the guy that Moneyball is based off of was hired by the Cleveland Browns 7 or 8 years ago (not Beane, but the Ivy League guy). His strategy has not seemed to have worked for the Browns. Not sure it can apply anywhere other than major league baseball, as least based on what we see with the Browns.
Paul DePodesta. He has basically done nothing in football. The only thing he has to show for his work is one playoff win in eight years and whispers that he was correct about a couple of decisions behind closed doors.

Think baseball is a much different sport and league when it comes to analytics. It is a lot more simple. Something like an on base percentage is black and white. Basically, an individualized sport. Analytics are great for everything, but they are not as reliable as in other sports.

I mean he does have an affiliation to the area as a Sewickely resident and Steelers minority owner. And an affiliation to the sport through his son. There are mega donors out there who dont necessarily have an affiliation with a school but just like the team.

Why does Vegas comp whales …..because they ultimately benefit.

Pitts only chance to compete is to find 2-3 such people .

Why waste time whining about a school and a coach who has the assets to go get the players they want or a kid getting a life changing payday !
