Misery is over....another missed opportunity against a crap team...here comes the losing streak now
Sitting Johnson for the last 14 minutes is move that will either pay off or send him into a bigger slump than he has been in already.

Justin was just horrible tonight and I can't really get on Trey too much because he just was trying to make something happen he could have passed the ball a couple times. We just have to accept that we just have an inconsistent team because they're young along with two new guys. They'll come out next game and play like World beaters.

Play the walk on he can’t be worse..at least he plays under control...X is a basket case

I would have brought X back in with 3:30 left. Too much pressure on Trey to score and create. Not sure why Murphy ever drives. He never concerts and doesn’t look to pass. If he is not hitting the 3 he should not be playing so many minutes. Tough loss.

Even through he was struggling today- might have gone back to X when Lykes fouled out.

Lykes goes out and Pitt starts picking up full court. At that point for defensive purposes only- I have X in for Murphy. That's your best line up for creating turnovers.

Pitt lost this game for 2 reasons- X being sloppy with the ball and Champangie missing way too many easy shots.

At the end of the season, I'd tell Johnson to transfer or see what you can do professionally. Some games he shows up, and some games he dosen't. Good job by Capel to sit him the last 14 minutes of the game. You can call him selfish or whatever, but when he turned the ball over two times in the first three possessions I knew it would be one of those days when Xavier is only about himself and not for his team. If we land a recruit or grad transfer in the offseason, I'd force Johnson to leave if I'm Capel.

Brown had a nice game today but its been forever since we've had a Center as good as that scrub Waardenburg

Player A: 114.5 ORating, 12.9 OReb%, 17.4 DReb%, 3.3 Blk%, 51.6 Free Throw Rate, 72.7% on ones, 58.1% on twos

Player B: 105.9 ORating, 8.2 OReb%, 18.3 DReb%, 4.3 Blk%, 32.9 Free Throw Rate, 60.0% on ones, 55.8% on twos

Guess which one is Eric Hamilton and which one is that scrub Waardenburg,

Very disappointing.
13 more FGA
3 more points at free throw line
5 less turnovers
Yet we lost.
Looked like nothing left in tank after we pulled close
Defense late was not what we needed. I did not see great pressure on the ball, and yet we gave up layup after layup.

How is that possible?

Who is going to play the PG position for 40 minutes next year considering we don’t have anyone coming in as of now?

This game was on Champaignie.
Missed way too many gimmes, then took unnecessary shots to attempt to compensate.
3-16, at least 5 were wide open freebies.

Sticking with the zone was a mistake
Seemed we were satisfied to get it close. Evidently thought we could win playing "normal" ga,me with Lykes out. Should have really exerted ball pressure and gone for the kill shot.

We would have been better speeding them up without Lykes, rather than letting them run normal offense and pick us apart.

Just not enough bounce to get stops defensively. Trey looked exhausted down the stretch. As much as I would’ve hated it it might not of been a bad idea to put X back in the game just to create some energy and take the pressure off of Trey to create every posession

You are probably right.

X can’t be put back in.

that would undermine the message
No doubt on that. But down the stretch when we were gassed and needed that extra something, it might been the perfect opportunity to see if, in fact, X learned his lesson after sitting for 10 minutes to that point

Nope, if your teaching/sending a message, you don’t let up in that no matter what happens in the game. It’s all part of it, and it applies across all sports.

Then you need to play the walk on a minute, minute and a half, to give Trey a breather.

I really can’t argue with that position. I’m old school in that regard too. Just throwing it out there since we were obviously a step slow late. A part of me Wanted to sit the whole starting five early on.

How about tired McGowen versus rested McGowen in last 2 minutes?

That's assuming that resting for a minute or two makes a significant difference in his level of "tiredness". Which is a very large assumption.

Meanwhile, the one thing we know for a fact is that McGowens is a much, much better basketball player than Ezeakudo.

Not contesting your last sentence for an instant.

We were asleep on south beach for this game. Not sure what happened on this trip but they had no fire to play basketball. May have been the most dull, burned out performance this season.

Miami was not a good team at all. We beat ourselves more than Miami beat us. Heck, we get their best player out of the game. We still can't get it done. The circus shots and forcing offense is killing us. There seems to be zero offense majority of the game.

The guards have been gassed the majority of games late the last 2 years. I think that’s why he’s playing more zone. He’s playing an attack game with 6 players. There’s a little hope because the acc is weak barring the X concern doesn’t blow up.

When you shoot 23/64 you can’t expect to win. We are too guard heavy and don’t have a power inside game to carry the load when the jump shots aren’t falling.

Be that as it may, this team has the potential to muddle through to an about 0.500 or slightly better season. Next season can be better with an improved base inside game plus the ability to execute an inside-outside game, IMHO.
