Mike Leach

I love Mike Leach and would hire him here in a heartbeat but I give him a pass on this and brush it off as to him not understanding the cultural significance of nooses in the South.

The whole thing sounds completely ridiculous. He’s going to take tours of museums?

Really?

Unbelievable.

What did Leach tweet that was so hilarious/offensive — based on your perspective?

I have missed all of it. I have spent most of my time over the past few weeks focusing on trying to survive the pandemic while our obviously corrupt and incompetent president has screwed up our preparedness and response to COVID-19 to almost comic book levels.

Also, didn’t they fire Joe Moorhead because he was allegedly a poor cultural fit?

That seems ironic.

He’s way too smart to not understand it

Yea doesn't he have a JD? Although he probably did know about the significance of nooses, he probably just didn't think when he retweeted what was intended to be a funny picture although the picture and retweet were clearly in bad taste.

Here is the tweet and while it seems insensitive, in this context I do not believe it is/was.

I had that picture with the noose e mailed to to me several days ago.
I saw it as a joke about marriage and didn't think in terms of lynching.
Now that I've seen the outcry in Mississippi I can understand the uproar.
I don't know Leach, but I do know he makes some outrageous comments
on different things. My guess is, a connection to lynching was not what
he was thinking. However, as an influential coach with a very public job and
persona, in a state with Mississippi's history he has to be more aware of
things like this.

I also believe strongly about "degree" in life. Often it's simply nothing
more than a matter of degree. In other words....To many it's a cartoon
that is way too racially insensitive and shouldn't be tolerated. To others,
it's nothing more than a cartoon or joke about marriage and anyone
associating a racial connotation is going too far with political correctness.
IMO.....It's a matter of degree. So....I ask you?...who's right in this debate?
Again....IMO, it's a matter of degree.

No grown ass adult can use this excuse.

Also Leach is a trash person who treats his players poorly. I hope he fails.

Wasnt leach fired for putting craig james kid with a concussion in a shed instead of getting the kid medical attention?

Also, as an educator of student athletes you need to understand your audience. I would never tweet a noose or a swastika or a guy in a white pointy hood no matter the context (unless I was a teacher of history.) This isnt about political correctness, its about common sense and decency

Come on, how can you expect that everyone with a bachelor's degree in American Studies and a Juris Doctor to know the cultural significance of a swastika or a guy in a white pointy hood?

How on Earth would you know?

What, that no grown ass adult can justify ignorance with regards to very well known symbols of lynching? Common f'ing sense.

Or that Leach treats his players poorly? I mean, that stuff has been written about for well over a decade.

Didn't he scold his players for being religious at Texas Tech?

If so, it seems that the only place that tolerates his bigoted views is the academic world...which ironically cries about this stuff all the time. This at least has to be one of those microagressions, rights?

He went to BYU and still claims to be a practicing Mormon...

If the husband was white, or if it was Mike Leach would that make a difference? I would think most married guys can relate to their wife being very angry at them.

For every player at Texas Tech that had something negative to say about Leach, there was another that would defend him. This happens in EVERY locker room. I remember his defensive players going to bat for him when the whole Adam James situation broke out.

Fair enough. I'll say this and then bow out of this conversation.

As a coach and a person I find Mike Leach reprehensible and I'm glad he's not representing my university.

trying to survive...hahaha, aren't you the brave one. Hang in there Sparky!. Could you at least fill us in on what the guy failed to do in this unprecedented situation? Did he shitcan billions of masks and hundreds of thousands of ventilators when he came into office or something?

What did he fail to do? LOL. Where hasn’t he screwed up?

Is there any semi-intelligent, semi-educated adult in America who doesn't understand the significance of nooses in Mississippi?
Especially someone with a degree in American Studies. Of course this was at BYU, so there might be a few things they glossed over...
