Minnesota at Pitt

Outside of Peyton Willis, their roster looks entirely different. Throw in the fact that they have a first-time head coach this should be a winnable game even with the uncertainty on what type of team Pitt will have.

Been saying for years that if all the P6s got together to do this, everyone would be in the same boat so there would be no need to worry about others gaming the NET.

And please nobody say P6s need these cupcake games to make money. No they dont. Maybe like 10 schools make money off these games.

They should really be doing ONLY these challenges. I believe the ACC is the only conference who only does one. Nobody wants to see Pitt vs Howard.
Which conference does more than one?...Big 12 and SEC have had one for a decade or so. Also Pac12 and Big East have one starting soon.

Agree, just rather challenge someone else. This one stinks.
You'd rather see Pitt playing games against Arkansas or Missouri? How about Iowa State? Maybe Utah?

I think it's a pretty good fit. The series has been extremely close since Pitt joined the conference. Six out of the past 8 challenges have been tied or decided by a single game.

Big Ten-Big East
Big East-B12
B12-SEC

There was also supposed to be a 3-game challenge between the Pac-12 and B12 in 2020 which never happened.

I've said before that an Atlantic vs Pacific challenge seems like an easy sell for ESPN. I also think a limited challenge (4-6 games) with the AAC or A10 would be a great, winnable series for the ACC.

I like this game for Pitt. Should be a win.

I figure them for about 12th in the Big Ten, and I figure us for about the same spot.

Although, I expect predictions this coming year will be more inaccurate than ever before. Just too many comings and goings.

Yeah that’s probably accurate on both accounts. I think Ben is gonna do a good job there, just not yet.

OK, I guess the ACC, SEC, and Pac 12 don't do 2

BTW, there's no reason in this world why with a bazillion OOCs to be played why the ACC and SEC can't hook up for a challenge especially now that the SEC is the dominant southeastern basketball league. Would be good for the ACC to go up against a league who actually takes basketball $eriously

He’s a totally unknown quantity as a HC. These guys usually have to cut their teeth at a lower level. Ben went straight from a pretty lackluster 3 year stretch as an asst at XU to a rebuild job at a perennial B10 bottom feeder. That’s a big step. I suspect he’s most likely in over his head.

Oh I don’t disagree. I think he hired a pretty good staff and there really isn’t too much to coaching. You can either do it and are prepared to take that step or you’re not. He always struck me as an intelligent dude who would be a good HC.

That said, it was odd they didn’t pursue Dennis Gates harder.

Yeah, seems like we missed out on getting one of the Big East vs Everyone series.

its not money that has ever been an issue its the lack of a preseason where kinks of a roster that can be worked out and a rotation established. second is a record pad. money isnt the battle cry for these games

Money was the lie that Dixon told for years. We needed to play MEAC teams because we sold out of season tickets and the ticket price they printed at the bottom of your season ticket was what they thought the game was worth. The reality was that the game had very close to $0 in value to a season ticket holder and they probably would have sold the same amount of tickets if they dropped the game entirely.

At least he was smart enough to play duquesne for the “neutral site” win
