I thought I would ask this question because sadly there is a real possibility we might not have a college football this year. As of now nobody knows. And with a 2nd wave of covid19 predicted in the fall, the college basketball season is still unknown as to what will happen.

So it got me to thinking, an interesting question to the board. If we were only able to have 1 season move forward, which would you prefer.

I'm going to answer as to my pick. I love both don't get me wrong but I am gonna go with Pitt basketball as what I would rather have. I guess(and this is just my opinion now) if I really felt like Pitt football was on the cusp of a huge season I probably would go with the football season. But I feel like with Narduzzi at the helm we already know what we are getting, mediocrity and underachieving. All this talk on the football board of this year's team going to the next level but I don't see it. Our offense has way too many question marks.

Pitt basketball got a nice recruiting class. I am actually excited to see how Capel's 3rd year here will go because unlike Narduzzi for me, Capel is an unknown and I still hope he will get Pitt basketball back to sweet 16's as the norm. So I am more excited. And for that reason if I had to pick 1 season to keep I am going with basketball.

Basketball is clearly on upward trajectory toward being a top 25 and maybe even a top 10 team over the next couple of years. Football continues to tread water and looks to continue being an annually mediocre 8-5 team hardly worth following. When, or if, that changes so will my attitude.

Agreed. I'm sorry but Narduzzi inspires no excitement for me now, where early in his tenure here he did. Unlike Capel, his recruiting has been mostly blah, once Chryst's players left our offense has been pitiful. Yes the defense has improved I will give him that. But the poor offense, his in-game and late game decisions etc... has made me very skeptical this guy is the answer here.

If I saw a real solid uptick in recruiting, like more 4 stars and hell even an occasional 5 star or two or 3, I'd be much more excited. But hell, even Dabo and Saban would have trouble taking Pitt to the next level when the vast majority of our recruits are 3 stars with a few 2 stars mixed in, and we all have to hope some turn out to be studs. Not a receipe for winning ACC championships and playing in a NY6 bowl game.

This is football's year. If we're going to have a ten-win season before they plant me, it's going to be this year with everyone on defense coming back and a senior QB. Sure, the O-line isn't elite and we haven't identified a lead back, but Pitt isn't consistently recruiting 4 and 5 star guys, there are going to be soft spots. If we are going to make a mark and set ourselves up for more long-term talent, this is the year.

I think basketball is still a year away from making the tournament. If the stars align this year we can win 21 games or so, and maybe that's enough. But an awful lot has to go our way.

My vote: football.

I chose basketball simply because I prefer watching that to football and the basketball team is clearly on an upward trajectory. The football program is nothing more than mediocre and will continue that mediocrity without the necessary recruits. And we're not getting them in football. We certainly are in basketball. And recruiting is the lifeblood of college sports.

As it looks now and assuming we even play this year, football would again be in that 7-5 or 6-6 range, while I see basketball possibly getting to an 18 win season and maybe more.

Tough tough question. I voted football because this could be a special year and could springboard the program to more consistent good years, where as basketball i feel good withstand a year off better. A great percentage of the team is underclassmen. The team is more talented and would be ready to rock and roll in 2 years. And I slightly like hoops over football

Top 25 or top 10!? How bout we post a winning record first!

Football by a long long margin here. If narduzzi doesn’t win 10 + with this group then he gets fired after next season at least. 2020-21 Pitt b-ball team should be about the same as last year’s.

Football,

Because they are built to be pretty good this season before graduation kills them and there is a feeling that Pitt hoops will be built for a long run.

I'm sorry but how are they built to be pretty good? We have a question at quarterback even as Pickett is a senior, OL is shaky, WR's are shaky and TE's are big questions. Maybe our defense will be pretty good but I'm not sure where this narrative of the team being "special" this season is coming from. Way too many unknowns and questions on the offensive front.

Hold up a second. You argued with me last week that last season was a huge disappointment for Pitt football because they should have made a NY6 game, and yet you don't think that this season's team, which is likely to actually be better than what last year's team was, is even going to be "pretty good"?

You get that that makes no sense what so ever, right?

Last season many on here felt like Pickett would take a big step forward and we would be in the hunt competing for the Coastal championship. We underachieved and played terribly down the stretch. Heck we barely beat a MAC team in a garbage bowl.

So I'm not understanding what you claim doesn't make sense. The same narrative is being thrown out this season, that Pitt will be pretty good, "special" has been used a lot on here. And I don't see it, mainly because of all the questions on offense. And I don't think Narduzzi is a good head coach, he is average and last season after year 5 solidified that in my head.

What doesn't make sense is that you were pissed off that the team that is likely to be the clearly lesser team didn't make a NY6 game while simultaneously thinking that the team that is likely to be better isn't even going to be pretty good.

If you don't think that this year's team is even going to be pretty good then thinking that last year's team should have gone to a NY6 game is completely, utterly irrational. If you think that last year's team should have been in a NY6 game then you should think that is where this year's team should be as well. And you have to be at least "pretty good" to do that.

On the other hand, if you think that this year's team isn't even going to be pretty good then it ought to cause you to reexamine your obviously incorrect thoughts on how good last year's team was. If this year's team isn't going to even be pretty good and this year's team is very likely to be better than last year's team then how on earth does a team that isn't even pretty good make a NY6 game?

I was hopeful at the start of last season, they played Penn State close and should have won imo if Narduzzi had some guts. And they were in the running near the top of the Coastal late in the season. Then they stunk up the joint and cratered down the stretch. But what I meant was last year they had an easier path to get to a NY6 bowl and they were right there late in the season. And they blew it.

So I look at this upcoming season and I am not buying in this time that Pitt will be special or a pretty good team. I don't believe in Narduzzi and I don't believe in our offense.

I uses the words "pretty good", as I dont think you are wrong....that the offense is a complete unknown.

I probably would have used the word "special", if the offense was predicted to score a bunch of points.

But I happen to believe their defense will keep them in every game.

I like basketball better, but voted football because I think it could be our best year in a long, long time.

Basketball. I think football’s going 8-4, give or take a game in either direction. A fine season, for sure, but the offense and coach create a ceiling for success.

I prefer Pitt basketball, too. Even if we don’t start until January, you’re still getting 20 high-quality ACC games.
