i am not sure why there have been so many St. John's posts this off-season, but, here is another. Their best recruit this year, LoVett, has been ruled ineligible. He can practice with the team, but cannot play this season. More minutes for Durand!

I will still root for Durand to do well. St. John's though is already getting old for me. Back in the running for top recruits, getting national attention, and well quite frankly... they haven't really done anything yet except bring in a coach.
I'm not one to put down Pitt recruiting but this offseason has made me really start to see how far behind in that regard we are. For one, Penn State, one of the all-time worst basketball programs in America, has a top 10-15 class. Then yesterday I hear about Thon Maker's final 6 teams: Arizona State, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Notre Dame, and St. Johns! Indiana, Kansas, UK I get, but Pitt can not recruit as highly touted kids that ASU, ND, and St. John's do? I realize this will be moot as 5 of those teams will not have this kid on their roster, but how can Pitt really not even be in the mix most of the time for any big-time recruits? I was totally ok with it when we were having success with the approach we take, and I think we have a lot of kids on this year's team who are more like the mid-2000's players.Similar to when Lavin was there, really.

It just baffles me that schools can start recruiting big before they've even made it onto the college basketball map really (in Penn State's case.) Pitt has good facilities and a great home court advantage too. The only thing I think that even makes sense to me is kids do want to play in Dixon's system. It has proven not to get them to the Association because they don't really get showcased in his system. We've also had few guys that were that good, so this may be false, but perception is everything when we're talking about 17-18 year old kids.
I've never heard anyone who is anyone in the college basketball world say anything about Dixon's recruiting other than nobody hits the recruiting trail harder than Jamie. So I really don't think he is a bad recruiter, it's just his system kind of defeats him in the offseason before he has a chance to make his sales pitch.
