(They coached the only way they could win. We coached the only way we could lose)

He's right. Forget the idiotic bad call. That's what idiots do. If Pitt let a horrendous team like WF stick around and stay close like they did, then they deserve to lose. Very plain and simple. If we're up by 3 TD's in the 4th quarter, none of this happens.

Pitt -1 at most shops at kickoff, number bounced back and forth all week.
So it was a basically a tossup. Those characterizing this as a horrible loss to a crap team think they know more than Vegas pros.

Then you surely recognize that Wake's third string quarterback was well below the proverbial line, and that the game was there for the taking for a team that was trying to actually take the game, rather than just not lose the game.

Or not.

Um, well part of it is being a team bad enough for the spread to only be -2.5 (DraftKings) at kickoff when it was clear that Wake was starting a converted safety/tight end.

Sucking all season and then barely missing covering the spread that was low because you sucked doesn't excuse the outcome.

I understand that the game was a tossup from the beginning and that Wake also put a team on the field that was motivated with a homecoming crowd.

Your expectations are different than those whose finances depend on knowing them.

Its an argument against expectations that Pitt should beat them.
It’s like you’re sticking up for Pitt’s coaches and players because they’re so bad that we shouldn’t have expected them to win and shouldn’t be irritated at all that we let WF keep the game close so as to win it at the end.

Sorry, don’t understand that logic.

Right now, there’s only one reason why I’m glad we’re lousy this year. If we were good and had a good record, I’d really be upset right now about losing the game because of the ball placement call on CV’s run. But we are lousy this year so I’m not that upset about losing test because of that call.

Doesn’t change the fact that I’m irritated at our coaches for us being so lousy this year and the reasons why.

I'm arguing against unreasonable expectations.

Is it unreasonable to expect Pitt to beat a Wake Forrest team, which is winless in conference play and is starting its 3rd string quarterback, who has taken all of 6 snaps this season?
It was a tossup game and it was their homecoming.

Why would you expect this Pitt team to win given its performance to-date?

I wouldn't expect them to win this year. Which is why I think a complete housecleaning is required. They didn't just lose, they were outplayed physically.
To paraphrase Dean Wormer, "weak, scared, slow, dumb and undisciplined is no way to play football".
Get used to being made homecoming opponents. We're not far off from playing one and done away games for $1.5 million dollars.

Because their opponent has been even worse. If Pitt could beat a good team last week, why do you think it was unreasonable to expect them to beat a bad team this week?

2 things.

1. The smart people called it a tossup game.
2. Wake won.

Silliness.

You actually want the entire coaching staff fired? Complete meltdown silliness.

We should just start recruiting all MAC-level 2-stars. That way, we'll never have any expectations, so every loss will be totally no big deal because Vegas will have had us as underdogs anyway. Can't blame Duzzz for losing those.

Yes. I do. Once it becomes an unrealistic expectation to beat WF, then the entire coaching staff and roster are not worth $5 million.
A volunteer coach and roster of walk-ons can lose to WF.
ND and FSU are going to lay JM2 level beat downs on Pitt. The players aren't good enough. But the coaches aren't good enough to get better players. And the fans aren't going to fund this staff with NIL money for them to waste on stupidity like the failed PJ experience.
They need to go. They are not good enough for this level of football. The game has changed. Pitt needs to change or play in the MAC. They have the perfect roster and staff for the MAC. They would be contenders most years.

There isn't a lot of difference between Louisville, Pitt, and Wake Forest. All three are very mediocre.

But it’s not.

Your argument seems to be that Pitt wasn’t favored to beat Wake, so it can’t be a bad loss.

But the point others are making is that Wake is a bad team playing with their third string QB.

That can only be a bad loss.
The fact that Wake was favored can only be evidence of how bad things are.

But the loss isn’t any less horrible just because expectations for Pitt have become that diminished by Vegas.

A coach can’t hide behind the fact that he has created absolute basement level expectations and then say, “well the loss can’t be that bad, we weren’t expected to beat that horrible team anyway.”

Its a horrible loss because we are Pitt and they are Wake minus Sam Hartman. And they had a 3rd string QB. Perhaps we are just as bad as Wake but we shouldn't be.

I really have no idea how you reach these dumb conclusions when replying to me.

I'll say it again. Meltdown worthy silliness.

It remains a fact that people who expect an under-performing Pitt to beat an under-performing Wake in a game called a tossup by the people whose financial lives depend on making such calls are unreasonable.

No coach is saying that. None ever would. You're making that up. I am saying that.
