I thought it would be bad. I didn't think it would be that bad.
So here are the troubling numbers.
1. In the Watson era we have scored 30 points or more 5 times. Rice, Albany, NC (twice), and Virginia.
2. Sans Matt Canada, we have scored 30 points or more 9 times.
3. In the Pat Narduzzi era we have given up 30 points or more 23 times in 43 games.
4. We've given up 40 or more 9 times.
5. Matt House gave up 30 or more 12 times in 39 games. Gave up 40 or more 7 times.
Others on here have said this, and I unfortunately agree. Coach Narduzzi's philosophy about football is archaic. He sees everything through a defensive prism, from game plan all the way to recruiting. That is not today's college football. You have to score and assume you will be scored upon. Instead of throwing numbers at the offensive side of the ball in recruiting, our emphasis is on defense. We have 19 defensive lineman on the roster and 18 offensive lineman. We have 18 defensive backs (despite never playing more that 5 at a time) and only 16 receivers (6 of which will never contribute in a meaningful way on offense).
We are looking at a long season, and, unless some philosophical changes are made, that will continue for years to come. I picked a bad day to not drink.
