what do you guys think of my ralph Willard all star team? I Think it's pretty solid..

STARTING 5
1- Vonteego
2-Maile
3-RIcardo Greer
4-Hawkins
5-Blount

BACKUP 5
1- Jerry Ice
2-Garrick Thomas
3-I have no clue, literally cant think of someone.
4- Chad Varga, he'd compete with Isaac for starter minutes
5- Jamie Peterson, yeah, seriously..

I actually would think about using Jerry Ice and moving Vonteego over to the 2 at times or moving Maile to 3 to give Ricardo a break and going with Jerry Ice, Vonteego and Maile. I could use Atilla Cosby at the 3 but that would be a reach.. Would also think about using Gerald Jordan over Peterson too..

I wanted to use Antigua but tough to classify him as a Willard guy. also wanted to bring in Jermane Morgan too but again, Im not sure you can use a guy who I don't think, ever stepped foot on campus..

Are you counting Evans recruits because McCullough was and I think Maile was, and Garrick Thomas.

And what about his last recruits Brandin Knight and Jaron Brown?

I don't know man, I really didn't make rules here.. Let's not over think this. But yeah, we cant use Knight and Brown, they are Howland guys.. Those two would definitely be on the team..

PG - Cummings
SG - Lockhart (have we ever had a good SG?)
SF - Greer
PF - Varga
C - Blount

Gibbs for sure, Ramon possibly. Jason Matthews for sure. Maile was sweet his sr year, Garrick Thomas was decent..

I don't remember Kelli taylor being a good outside shooter but my memory is suspect..

There is no scenario where Jerry McCullough isn't one of the best 2-3 Willard era players.

Maile over McCullough--are you kidding? They are both guards. I don't think you need to go so far as slotting them to 1s, 2s etc. If Jerry, Maile and Vonteego were all on the same team, I can tell you with absolute certainty which one would be getting the least minutes.

Jason Matthews was the best SG in my lifetime as a Pitt fan by a wide margin. A distant #2 would be Gibbs. Julius Page would be a distant 3rd--he just wasn't a scorer or good shooter, which is the primary role of a 2 guard, but his defense, athleticism and all around value puts him on the list. Nobody else really even deserves mention.

Matthews was the best shooter Pitt has had in my memory, and it was nice to have a 2 guard who shot FTs at about a 90% clip. Part of the best recruiting class in Pitt history, considered a top 5 class of all time at the time, courtesy of Calipari and the Golden Panthers.

I agree, I loved Jerry Ice.. in my scenario, I move Vonteego over to the 2, have Jerry Ice as the PG. I think I have Maille to high, he should be my zone buster, coming off bench..

Not sure what I do about Garrick Thomas though, I still like him better than Taylor, maybe I find a spot for Lockhart. Need help at the 3 big time, loved Greer but I got nothing else, at all for a wingman.

@Sean Miller Fan, you need to put a "all howland team" and a "all Dixon team" up and see which one is better. that would be an interesting debate.

we'd have to lay down some ground rules though, guys like Krouser we'd have to give to Howland, just to even the teams up a bit. Taft and Gray have to go to Dixon even though Howland was coach that recruited them.

McCullough was an Evans recruit. The thread is about Willard guys.

The All Paul Evans team was short lived, but would probably win this All-Pitt Final 4...

Charles Smith
Jerome Lane
Brian Shorter
Jason Matthews
Sean Miller
Demetrious Gore
Darelle Porter
Bobby Martin
Rod Brookin

Smith, Lane, and Gore were Roy Chipman recruits. But, I would add Chris McNeal and Darelle Porter. Porter was as solid as they come, did everything well.

Lockart was too streaky for me, and I don't recall there being much to his game other than shooting. So when he went cold, there was not much else for him to offer.

Cam was at Pitt for 3 years, so how does he fit on this team?

Clancy Jr stands out on that list. Such a tough gritty player just like his dad and unless I’m not remembering correcting never seriously considered Pitt.

I like it.
“Beep, Beep Jeep” was another one of the “my dad or brother played at Pitt, but I decided not to”.
