After reading today's article in the PG (I know, shame on me), I finally get it -- and now I have to apologize to Coach Franklin. All along I have thought that the Coach was being an arrogant, egomaniacal doofus holding up his finger in every photo - I knew PSU wasn't No. 1, so I just didn't get it.

But here's what he said: "I take pictures all the time with fans and people in the community, and I always throw up that No. 1, and that's because we want to be No. 1 in graduation rates and we're working on being No. 1 in all the other areas, as well."

Don't you feel bad now - I know I do. This guy gets it, it's all about graduation rates. My apology to the Coach for mis-reading him all this time.:(

Go Pitt.

Well, it is the Harvard of centre County.

I wonder how reporters can keep a straight face through such dip shittery

Actually, you have to give the guy credit for being smart enough to know that the people who he needs to pleaase eat this kind of crap up. It fits right in with the other Bull Shit Marketing Campaign like "success with honor" and "the grand experiment". While the rest of the outside world raises their eyebrows and laughs at this corny bullshit,, the JOEBOTs are all jizzing on themselves over these cheezy and goofy statements. Guy knows what side his bread is buttered on. Obie wan didnt want to sound this dumb and desparate but the Carnival Barker has no problem placating the JOEBOTs Its going to buy him enough time to get another extension and wring out another 8 to 10 MM$ from the lunatics

Ya...could never understand how they came up with this crap and how the media ate it up.

In Pittsburgh? Too many of them are his lapdog. He's given them so much material that is clearly BS, yet they've yet to throw him a question that is anything harder than a cotton ball.

There isn't. Almost all coaches start as a grad assistant where they are on the level of the players personality and intelligence wise, they are still "one of the guys." Through the years the coach will grow up and out of that level and be more of a mentor or father figure or a boss type of coach, Franklin never did. He is still on that level and I can tell you from experience that those types of coaches are rarely respected by their players. Players usually respect the coaches more when they are a coach, mentor or father figure, not one of the guys.

There can't be, there isn't, and there probably never will be.

What wrong with you don't you get it its because of the sanctions! That caused the grad rate to be low!
Forgive me Father BuffetParrothead , I have Sin?:(

Well, Maybe not!

May I point out that if you go back to the AFCA Link I provided, Penn State did Graduate over 75% of its Players in 2014, when the Sanctions were just over?o_O

Additionally, may I point out also, Joe Paterno did not always Graduate 70% or 90% as always claimed by Penn State Fans of ignorance.

Moreover, may I point out that Vanderbilt did Graduate 75%, 90% & 100% Players before and after James Franklin.

Furthermore, in 2013 James Franklin last year at Vanderbilt, James Franklin did not graduate 90% or even 75% of his Players at Vanderbilt and they were not on Sanctions?

Consequently, James Franklin did not have Sanctions at Vanderbilt but did not graduate 75% of its Players in 2013 and Penn State in 2015?:(

Finally, may I further point out if some Parents had checked on that Information, their recent recruiting praises and claims by Penn State's Terry Smith and James Franklin bragging about Graduating their "Mature Players" are not true at Penn State.:oops::eek:

Conclusion, some should check on Terry Smith and James Franklin talk as what promises they make to some Parents but cannot prove they have done it to date?:eek:o_O:mad::confused::(;)

Guy isn't going anywhere until 2017 at the earliest. I expect him to start angling for an extension soon. Negative recruiting and all.

"Franklin will make a base salary of $1.3 million in 2014, an amount that will increase by $100,000 each season. By the time it expires in 2019, the head coach will make a base salary of $1.8 million. The deal was unanimously approved by Penn State's board of trustees' compensation committee Saturday morning.

The contract also includes a buyout that is slightly less but not far off from the six million and change the Houston Texans paid to buy out Bill O'Brien's contract. If Franklin were to leave voluntarily to pursue other opportunities following either the 2014 or 2015 season, his new program would be tasked with paying Penn State $5 million. The amount drops to $2.5 million after the 2016 season, $2 million after the 2017 season, and finally $1 million if he were to leave after either the 2018 or 2019 season."
