My observation on football ticket pick-up yesterday.

This was certainly the most energetic the ticket office has ever been. It was pretty busy with fans and these young people were almost sprinting to the back ( walking really fast ) to grab the tickets. They welcomed with a smile, were happy you were there and it was seamless. Parked in the OC lot for free. I have to admit that I haven't walked that path to the Pete as I usually come up from below. I know the campus has changed a lot from the early 90s of my graduation but is really dramatic in a great way. Just Wow !

There were a lot of season ticket holders and more than I ever remember. The one thing that seemed different was the pep in everyone's step including myself. If my unscientific observation is correct, people are genuinely excited. Walking around the main entrance to the Pete, the Jumbo Tron played highlights from last year and it looked like a National Championship package. Almost all offense and a few defensive highlights. That about sums up what's missing.

Bought a few new items with the new script. Plenty of selection and great quality Nike stuff. The staff at the store was eager to say that a few things I was looking for with the new script are in the pipeline. They said to check the website daily as they expect a lot of new stuff soon. They also had an extra register outside the store and table in front of ticket windows with laptops to make it flow quickly.

There is certainly more of a genuine buzz without the apprehension of previous years. I'm glad I stopped by.

When I was there yesterday I was actually surprised at how few people were there. I think when I walked away with my tickets there was literally no one else there.

We are always away at this time of the year, so I can never pick up in person even though we are local. I find the distribution AFTER this interesting. Some years it has been seamless, others, not so much. We shall see.

Any surprises in the envelope? I think last year was a magnet and the year before was a silver PITT car emblem.

I picked mine up at 3:30. The only people there were me, Joe Starkey, and Chris Mueller. Guess everyone was at work.

I will be honest. What exactly is the incentive to picking up the tickets other than to get them a few days early?

Pitt wants people who wax nostalgic for the on-campus stadium to remember just how inconvenient it is to get in and out of Oakland. :')

For me it's just because of the general incompetence that the ticket office has exhibited in the past. However recently (say about the time Steve Pederson came back ;) ) they have actually gotten a lot better with not screwing things up. I actually strongly considered not going down and picking them up, and I think it's pretty likely that next year I will not.

At one point we had a stretch of six years where the ticket office either screwed up our tickets or parking for football or basketball in five of those years. My all time "favorite" was the year (one of the last years at Fitzgerald) that they sent us our basketball tickets so late that they actually arrived the day of the first exhibition game. They then sent a letter out to apologize for how late they sent the tickets out. The letter included a coupon for a free hot dog and coke at the second exhibition game, which was a great gesture on the part of the athletic department. Or at least it would have been had the letter with the coupon in it not arrived the day after the second exhibition game. Oops.

Joe, that's very funny.

There is none... I was just at presby for work, which is across the street for the Pete...
