We all know the media in this town is extremely lame and will NOT ask the questions of Barnes and Stallings at the press conference.

These are the questions that NEED to be asked.

For Barnes:

1. You said last week that you wanted a hire that will "move the needle". That Pitt is a "national job". You hired a coach toward the end of his career who has elicited nothing but negative reactions from fans, boosters, and the national media. Do you think you "moved the needle"?

2. It has been reported that the head of the search team you hired, Todd Turner, was the Athletic Director that hired Kevin Stallings at Vanderbilt in 1999. He was also your boss at the University of Washington. How do you answer the questions concerning a conflict of interest in this hiring?

3. It has been reported by multiple sources that USC head coach Andy Enfield was extended an offer and was interested in the job, but offered a counter-offer to make the same salary that Pitt was paying Dixon. Was this counter-offer ever considered?

4. It was widely believed that Kevin Stallings was soon to be fired by Vanderbilt, possibly as early as next week. Do you think it was wise to pay a buyout to Vanderbilt to take a coach off their hands that they were going to terminate anyway?

5. You said last week that this hiring was an opportunity to perhaps build on the foundation that was laid at Pitt by Jamie Dixon. Given that Kevin Stallings has only made the tournament in 9 of his 23 seasons and only had 8 20-win seasons in the past 17.... do you feel you took advantage of that opportunity?

For Stallings:

1. You are stepping into a situation in which the majority of the Pitt fan base and boosters think the program has just taken a step back from where they were. What can you say to them to bring them on board?

2. This past season, you had at least 2 players that are considered to be possible NBA first round picks. You were in the Top 20 at the start of the season. Your team finished 19-13 and barely made the NCAA tournament. In late February, you lamented the fact that you had "lost" this team. What can you say to Pitt fans to make them believe that 2016 was an abberation and not the norm?

3. Have you given any consideration to hiring Brandin Knight as an assistant, to keep some continuity for the players and to keep some linkage with the past 15 years of great Pitt basketball?

For Gallagher:

1. Chancellor, are you satisfied that your Athletic Director's process for filling this vacancy was thorough and resulted in the best possible candidate being hired?

2. Are you troubled at the appearance of collusion and cronyism in the relationships between your Athletic Director and the head of the search team? Between the head of the search team and Kevin Stallings?

3. Can you give an accounting of the level of angry emails and phone calls you have received by boosters and fans who feel this process was flawed at best, and corrupt at worst?

RE: #2

What specifically is the conflict of interest? How is the search firm compensated? Do we have reason to believe the search firm did not behave ethically or in what they believed to be Pitt's best interest? Honestly asking.

RE: #3

I have seen this on this board, but no real sources. Who are the sources?

I have seen this on this board, but no real sources. Who are the sources?

Turner was the AD at Vanderbilt. He hired Kevin Stallings there. He and Stallings are friends. He is hired by Pitt to conduct the search.... he also represents Stallings as a client as well as Will Wade of VCU. He orchestrated a move of his friend, Stallings, to Pitt.... saving his former school from paying the buyout... .and then sets up his OTHER client, Wade, as the new Vanderbilt head coach.

Turner gets paid by Pitt, by Stallings, and by Wade. His former school is better off, his good friend is set for 6 years.... and Pitt is screwed.

Cronyism defined.

As for the Enfield story..... make Barnes deny it. The sources are people close to Enfield.

These are some very well thought out questions. I just don't know of any media members that would ask any of them.

We all know Barnes will talk about how he accomplished his goal and checked all of his boxes. Even though he didn't.

Ok... slowwwwww down. Slow down.

"He and Stallings are friends" - Is that true? I have no idea.

"He also represents Stallings as a client" What does that entail? This firm is his agent? Again, how is this firm compensated? A lot of questions here, and only assumptions for answers.

"as well as Will Wade of VCU" What does that mean?

"saving his former school..." Why did Turner leave Vandy? What is his current relationship with Vandy? We are assuming they are buddy buddy, but I don't know this.

"sets up his OTHER client..." We don't know this at all. This is past jumping to conclusions.

"Turner gets paid by Pitt, by Stallings, and by Wade" Slowwwwww down. Turner would get paid by Pitt no matter who he found, no? How does the firm represent the coaches?

I haven't ruled out the possibility that Pitt was royally hosed by this search firm. I just see huge leaps and assumptions every step of the way that need to be verified before I buy into this conspiracy theory.

Ok, I've done some more reading. Turner was FIRED by Vandy in 2003. Does he really have that much of a soft spot for the school that fired him over a decade ago? I don't know yet.

I'm doing more reading on this search firm. I don't see ANYTHING about them representing coaches. Is that under a different brand? Still not seeing what they do, still haven't gotten any kind of answer about how this firm would represent a coach.

Some of the questions are quite legitimate.

Dejan MIGHT be one guy who's ballsy enough to actually ask them.

My guess is that you'll be sorely disappointed. It takes gigantic balls to actually ask those questions - in public - in front of a crowd of people - directly to those people - on the record.

It also requires the belief that you'll get a straight answer. That's not going to happen.

Therefore, there will be some poking around the issue but in the end the media people need access and they themselves have to develop a relationship with the coach, AD, etc. in question.
So none of the beat writers or regular columnists are gonna do it. Better look for someone who rarely comes around to swing that hard at the fence.

I can't wait to hear Barnes say Stallings was the guy he originally targeted and that he got his man. Or something very similar. Maybe even that nobody else was even interviewed.

Actually Turner was fired at both of his AD positions - Vanderbilt and University of Washington. Technically at UDub he "resigned".

Turner was fired at NCSU. I think Vanderbilt did away with its athletic department when he was there.

Do we know if he has any love for anyone still at Vandy? Any personal connection to the institution?

Wow - did not know he was also the AD at NCSU at one point also. And I think Vanderbilt did away with the AD position for 10 years after he left, but I could be wrong with the numbers.

Of course it matters. Part of '89's conspiracy theory is that Turner wanted to help out his old school.
You're right he did say that. To me the curiosity is in the people, not the schools. And I am in no way suggesting any wrongdoing occurred but it is.....curious and very circumstantial.

Agreed completely. I am still trying to sort fact from fiction.

Todd Turner's firm is involved with a number of searches every year and previously placed Wade at Chatanooga. The short list of candidates presented by search firms are often the candidates that are interviewed. Getting in the good graces of a search firm leads to more opportunities.

If Turner's firm ends up getting involved in the Vandy search and Wade gets hired there, I think there will be a lot of eyebrows raised due to the very obvious connections between Turner, Vamderbilt, Barnes, and Wade.

By Barnes and other ADs using these firms, they establish connections and in return are short listed when desirable AD jobs open up. So the Stallings hire could be advantageous to Barnes as he may get short listed for a more prominent AD job down the road. And in 6 months, no one outside of Pitt will remember the details of the Stallings hire. The news cycle creates very short memories.

Question to Stallings - Would u be sitting here right now if your son was in the St. Louis Cardinals organization? St. Louis University was believed to have interest in him, and I think he is more concerned with collecting a paycheck and being closer to his son play ball rather than taking Pitt to the next level.

Was his son actually called up? I have no idea and just learned this tidbit today.

We all know that Barnes has lied throughout this whole process. Why would he not lie tomorrow?

I am looking forward to the day when Barnes is fired for incompetency, Stallings is fired for being a lousy coach, and hopefully we get a competent AD and new head coach. Until then, we're stuck with this abomination of an administration and coach.

Well based on the Pitt fans constant bitching about the terrible pub we get in the papers and especially from our "flagship station" I would think they'd be chomping at the bit to ask these questions to make Pitt look even more stupid.

These are the questions that NEED to be asked. AGREE

I think the following answers would be a hoot!

For Barnes:

1. You said last week that you wanted a hire that will "move the needle". That Pitt is a "national job". You hired a coach toward the end of his career who has elicited nothing but negative reactions from fans, boosters, and the national media. Do you think you "moved the needle"?
"I never said what direction I intended move the needle."

2. It has been reported that the head of the search team you hired, Todd Turner, was the Athletic Director that hired Kevin Stallings at Vanderbilt in 1999. He was also your boss at the University of Washington. How do you answer the questions concerning a conflict of interest in this hiring?
"That's none of your business."

3. It has been reported by multiple sources that USC head coach Andy Enfield was extended an offer and was interested in the job, but offered a counter-offer to make the same salary that Pitt was paying Dixon. Was this counter-offer ever considered?
"Who is the Andy Enfield of which you speak?"

4. It was widely believed that Kevin Stallings was soon to be fired by Vanderbilt, possibly as early as next week. Do you think it was wise to pay a buyout to Vanderbilt to take a coach off their hands that they were going to terminate anyway?
(Singing) "I did it .... mmmyyyyy way!"

"Eat me!"

For Stallings:

1. You are stepping into a situation in which the majority of the Pitt fan base and boosters think the program has just taken a step back from where they were. What can you say to them to bring them on board?
"I've got nothing. I'm just happy to be workin' "

"Again ... I've got nothing. I'm just happy to be workin'"

3. Have you given any consideration to hiring Brandin Knight as an assistant, to keep some continuity for the players and to keep some linkage with the past 15 years of great Pitt basketball?
"I've gotta go with ... I'm just happy to be workin'"

For Gallagher:

1. Chancellor, are you satisfied that your Athletic Director's process for filling this vacancy was thorough and resulted in the best possible candidate being hired?
"What the hell do I care? Enrollment is up, we keep building buildings and have you seen the really cool new furniture in my office? Being Chancellor is the BOMB!"

2. Are you troubled at the appearance of collusion and cronyism in the relationships between your Athletic Director and the head of the search team? Between the head of the search team and Kevin Stallings?
"Luke, I am your Father!"

3. Can you give an accounting of the level of angry emails and phone calls you have received by boosters and fans who feel this process was flawed at best, and corrupt at worst?
"I didn't realize we had emails and phones at Pitt. I do expect that some folks could be writing me some letters soon. Talk to me in a couple of weeks and I'll let you know what they said."
