Looks like Zeise is nice, just as his father that is Best Radio Host for The Fan 93.7 with Bostick and Peak are on too, and Best Sports Writer for PPG, from Temple Communications. Paul Zeise son is a Prime example how Wideouts and Running Backs can make the Transition to a Top Linebacker with his Quickness, Speed and Little More Beef plus Smarts & Brains & Study in Classrooms and Film Rooms.

Pitt really need the Linebackers to step up. If I was Zeise's Father and Son time to invite the Pitt Linebackers to Dinner or Breakfast and start to live in the Film Room together and talk to Steeler's Linebackers and Linebacking Coaches as much as possible just like Big Nate talked to Big Ben and OC Haley.

The Linebacking unit for Pitt have to be ready on Game Day being able to Contain, Blitz, Tackle, and Cover McSorley, Barkley, Sanders, Thompkins, Blacknail, Hamilton & Gesicki on that Game Day. Experienced is often more required but study and film room prep can help develop it faster. A talk with Jack Ham by Zeise would be nice too!

Pitt is going up against what I consider one of the Smartest QBs to ever play CFB in Trace The Ace McSorely full of confidence, takes a hit, and never quits! Smarts beat Dumb! So, Zeise, Idowu and Brightwell have to not only play tough, but smarter for Pitt to Win and stop Trace The Ace, Heisman Barkley, and Gesicki that can one sick when he left uncovered along with Speedy Wideouts from the Nittany Lions!!!

I want to call the Pitt LBs Unit The Pitt LIMEbackers so the go through Penn State's OL Coach LIMEgrovelers on Hits, Blitz, and No Miss Tackles on Nittany Pity Wideouts, Running Backs and leaving QB Trace The Ace....McSOREly!!!
Excerpt:

Coaches named outside linebacker Elijah Zeise and offensive tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith winners of the annual Ed Conway Award as the most improved players in the spring........Fans must wait until the fall to see Zeise. He didn't play Saturday because of an injury suffered late in the spring, but he had impressed Narduzzi and his staff almost from the start of drills in March. “He just continues to learn,” linebackers coach Rob Harley said. “He continues to increase his knowledge.” Said Narduzzi of the former wide receiver: “He's huge (listed at 230 pounds), and he's playing well and he understands the game of football.”....................
Too Many Penalties................
Careful, Ben................

I thought at the time that Zeise should have gone strait to defense when he signed at Pitt. I always thought he could be a great safety. Now I'll settle for great linebacker.

Zeise had great hands in high school at wideout so he is poised to get some picks at linebacker. With Blackwell on the other side we may see many more interceptions than past years. Add in alot of young talent challenging them for reps and feeling good about the linebackers.

Good post and good points backing it up, but I need to see all 3 LBs and some Back-Ups do it, and in games 2, 3, and 4 we will find out?

I like McSorley's moxie but not so sure about him being one of the smartest. The interceptions he threw against Pitt and USC were ill advised throws.

Again I like him as a QB but that was a bit much.

I think the LB will improve a lot I really like the talent that is there it will just need game experience. But the comment on McSorley really? To me he was the luckiest QB I have ever seen. He would just throw shit up in the air and it somehow almost always seemed to fall into their receivers hands. I have never seen a kid throw more crap up some without even looking and it fall in peoples hands and not get picked. It was crazy.

If Trace the "ace" didn't have Godwin last year to haul in his Hail Mary, Joseph, and the Donkey passes the Nitters would have had an average year. Many times McSorley was pinned in and let loose an unguided "scud" missle which might have landed in another country had Godwin not tracked it down!
We'll see who on the Nitter team can catch?

It is a good point but this is how I see it and do so to try to increase the discussion to predict the outcome of the game and season for both Team and why I welcome other posters from PSU, Michigan, and MSU on the Lair to contribute there own knowledge to add to kind of prediction.

Here is my logical view.....If Nate Peterman can make a great stride in one year with Pitt players he was with with OC Canada, McSorley will be better in 2017 too. In all Honesty, 2 of the Very Best Games i watched from start to finish was PITT-PSU and USC-PSU.

Again, in all Honesty, both Games could have gone either way and still well earned Games and if McSorley doesn't have a drop by Hamilton it is a TD, and then Pitt would have had to win to get another TD. Same for USC, if Penn State mkaes just one more play or 1st Down, USC loses with time running out. Penn state should have been in the CFB Playoffs against Clemson not OSU is also my contention.

Yes, the Interceptions did help Pitt preserve the Win and helped USC to win the Rose Bowl games, can't take that away and McSorley just threw it up, and made that mistake, and that happen in almost all their games with Godwin and some Lucky Catches, but PSU could have been easily 13-1 if not for those Interceptions.

At the same time, Pitt could have been 11-1 too had they stopped OkST, UNC, VT, andhad DeNuccii ready when Nate went down against NU if Orndoff did not drop his late TD, or Pitt players made one more stop in the other 3 games?

What my conclusion is McSorley will be better in 2017 than 2016 and so will most of PSU Players with him, and we shall see if Defenses are prepared better to Defend against him? This is the unknown question on Defenses but McSorley indication is he will be better but against Tougher Schedule too, so we shall see?

"KTP, post: 1875622, member: 702"]I think the LB will improve a lot I really like the talent that is there it will just need game experience. But the comment on McSorley really? To me he was the luckiest QB I have ever seen. He would just throw shit up in the air and it somehow almost always seemed to fall into their receivers hands. In my opinion, and certainly others can disagree, but you hit upon the Crux Facing Pitt 3 of 4 Early Games that could decide Pitt being 4-0 or 1-3 or 2-2 or 3-1....the LBs and here is why.

Pitt will be playing against 3 Spread Offenses in PSU, OKST, and GT. Pitt beat GT twice now by last minute Kicks in 2015 and 2016 Pitt barely lost to OKST due to mistakes in defending them. Pitt barely held on beating PSU too all 3 games in 2016.

So, if the Pitt DLs is improved under Partridge, and DBs are better prepared due to depth and talent and experience that would have won OKST, UNC and VT last year. Yet, in 2017, if Pitt LBs are better early on and defend against the Spread way better due to LBs, they can go 4-0, 3-1, 2-2, but if not could be 1-3. The Pitt Offense also has to score like last year too.

On McSorley, you are correct again on some Lucky Throws with Great Catches and there is an Article i put up showing how Inefficient PSU Offense was last year and how Teams will be better prepared to Defend them in 2017. Still, McSorley will or should be better too.

I expected Zeise to have a nice year last year, getting hurt was hard for him and the defense.

I can see Pitt going 10 Wins if they can defend against the Spread and Score Big Points on Offense the first 4 games and be 4-0 or 3-1 against Spread Offenses of PSU, OKST, and GT! I am very worried of Browne Slow Starts I have seen at USC and Spring game and LBs inexperience against PSU & OKST QBs coming back with Top Ten Ranked Teams early too.

The other part to win 10 Wins is near the end of season when Pitt faces VT, UNC, and MIAMI all who will have New QBs and Players in the 10th, 11th, and 12th Games and Pitt has to be Injury Free. If Pitt Can go 4-2 or 3-3 against PSU, OKST, GT, UNC, VT, And MIAMI, it can win 10 games.

The truth is Pitt still needs more depth on its roster and coaching can improve it, but if key injuries happen, hard to keep up all season long in event Pitt loses some players like what happen in the Bowl in NU game.

I don't know about INTs, but Zeise does bring a combination of athleticism and smarts to the position. It seems like of late, Pitt has always lacked one of those in their LBs. A LB in this D ideally has the smarts and instinct to figure if he is picking up a receiver in short area or not, athleticism to cover them if he is, and the ability to tackle and prevent RAC. I think Zeise getting hurt last year to some degree forced Pitt to keep Whitehead at SS to compensate for the deficiencies in those three things.

I agree. I was told by one of his HS QBs that they could throw it up roughly in his vicinity and he would catch it. Great leaping ability and athleticism.

Great point, and Pitt and PSU both have Playmakers like it. This is why Narduzzi won't change his Defensive System, the Staff has taught the Pitt DBs how to get in position, but they are second late on jumping up and knocking the ball away without a penalty, their execution needs to perfected better!

Zeise was a Wideout and now has a LB now, knows how to do it, the problem so far is he has to stay healthy and gain more experience, and still has to teach and coordinate with the other 2 Linebackers, DLs, and DBs too. If one Player makes a mistake it can cost the game and that is why Great Coaching is paramount of getting 11 Players to Execute every play and Defense is reacting more than planning and has to make that one second preventive play one and one at times, and even if he does, his other Team Mate can let the entire defense down later on one missed play?

Zeise is needed as leader as much as a Player! Most CFB games are decided by 4 to 6 Plays by 2 to 3 Players and Leaders at each unit keep all others focused and executing by example and by communicating too. As told to me when playing and told to me by wiser coaches that know far more than I ever did.

If Pitt has those LBs ready for those 3 Spread Offenses of PSU, OKST, and GT, it can be a great season. By the time they play UNC, VT, and MIAMI at the end they will be even more ready!

We shall see?
