i don't really see the need. Post offices are closing all over as they continue running in the red. Where does the set up money come from? The expenditure on technology? The expansion of staff and security? I see no ROI anywhere.

Bernie and AOC want to provide banking services at post offices.......
Bernie and AOC want to provide banking services at post offices..Did they happen to mention why? I'll override my tendency to assume that their love of an all controlling government was the reason and wait for the answer.Bernie and AOC want to provide banking services at post offices.......not to mention capping Credit card interest rates at 15%. IMO if you cant afford to put it on your credit card and pay it off and ovide interest you cant afford to buy it period.
There are online banks now like Ally.com. I use them for some banking needs.Because banks are closing offices left and right and many Americans are finding it difficult to find affordable or convenient banking services.

May surprise you that same folks who mail letters and don’t have convenient banking options -There are online banks now like Ally.com. I use them for some banking needs.
or cell phone (which I am guessing 98% of those using these fly by night payday cashing services have)...While I'm gradually being forced to adapt to the 21st century, that's not so easy for those without access to a computer.
True. I guess life got tough for people using horses when cars took over. Going backwards isn't a great idea IMO. I'd rather have people use the computers at the library than make a huge investment in a struggling organization for the small % of people who can't get to a bank, have no computer and no phone. While I'm gradually being forced to adapt to the 21st century, that's not so easy for those without access to a computer.
I'd rather have people use the library versus making a huge investment in old technology.Right, some people’s access to a computer is limited to the public library.

I still use the post office, but what are you saying?Send al your letters and packages via fedex or ups?
Careful what you wish for.
I'd say get keen, or else figure something else out. Personal choices n'at.May surprise you that same folks who mail letters and don’t have convenient banking options -
May not be exactly keen on having their banking online.
Because banks are closing offices left and right and many Americans are finding it difficult to find affordable or convenient banking services....uh, brick and mortar locations are closing...more banking options than ever before in our history...Because banks are closing offices left and right and many Americans are finding it difficult to find affordable or convenient banking services.
What % of the population do you think have no access to banking options, brick and mortar or online? Before making a final decision I'd rather see that data. Typically, the US has only used a national bank in cases of extreme need. Doing it without extreme need, what could go wrong with that?May surprise you that same folks who mail letters and don’t have convenient banking options -

My friends all make fun of me because I actually deposit my checks at the bank. Most use an app. I like the free lollipop.Because banks are closing offices left and right and many Americans are finding it difficult to find affordable or convenient banking services....uh, brick and mortar locations are closing...more banking options than ever before in our history...
The post office “loses money” because it’s enormously cheap and accessible for citizens .I still use the post office, but what are you saying?
probably because the "P" stands for parcel...I'm guessing if they were ULS they would get the letter there for 55 cents as it would be in line with their business model...The post office “loses money” because it’s enormously cheap and accessible for citizens .
Send a letter across the country for 55 cents
Ups north of $9.
If this does not apply to you, don’t worry about it....a federal government entity (especially its re-purpose) applies to everybody...So I have every right to "worry" about it...Walmart can do whatever the hell they wish. The banking services offered by Walmart and the proposed services for the Post Office are tailored to individuals who are unable to afford the fees charged by traditional banks and also to serve those who still crave brick and mortar and convenience. If this does not apply to you, don’t worry about it.
From the Cheap Seats; I have no problem with capping CC rates. In fact, I would probably tie them to 3 or 4 points above prime. Then, the only issue would be if we went back to Carterish rates, which I hope we never see again. As far as the PO getting into the banking and IRA business. That is a non starter with me.Bernie and AOC want to provide banking services at post offices.......not to mention capping Credit card interest rates at 15%. Same reason you’re trusting the usps with your letter and packages rather than sending them via a private company. My postal lady can't even get our neighborhood mail in the correct mailboxes. I get mail in my box everyday that's not mine but a neighbor, and many neighbors are even getting packages that aren't theirs. Why would I trust any form of banking in the post office?
You are off your nut.....The post office “loses money” because it’s enormously cheap and accessible for citizens .

Another beat down. It's the cheapest option because no one has been allowed into the "letter" carrying business.
UPS and Fed X cannot deliver to, touch or access your USPS personal mailbox.
Noone can open and go in your mailbox. It's a Fed crime.
If you get your neighbors letters technically you cant open their mailbox to put the letters in.
How do you explain 40 lbs of Chewy dog food going free shipping and I pay $3.94 for a golf headcover which weighs 5 ozs. It went USPS cheapest rate to Columbus Ohio.
The reason is the USPS charges residental customers high rates to subsidize the large volume big shippers like Chewy and Amazon.
A USPS regional manager mentioned that to me.
A letter should cost half of what it costs today!

There you have it. If you don’t like the USPS, deliver your mail in person.
It's not good when your customers think you su-k so bad they have to come up with an alternative to your services, and you can't improve your service because you don't have employees with the competencies to improve!
Plus the USPS can't discipline or fire incompetents! Great business model!
It's a government monopoly.
Inefficient, overpaid, lazy people who have no standards dominant the work force!
Classic you get paid regardless of how bad your performance is and you get the scheduled government raises.
