Nebraska losing to Purdue 42-16

Ever since Osborne retired Nebraska has handled their head coaches worse than any team in the country by far. That includes Pitt. They continually fire good coaches and usually their replacements are far, far worse.

This is why I laugh when people think a coach should be fired just for the sake of change. Train wreck is right.

Nebraska really sucks. I am laughing because Bo swore too much and they hired their choir boy.

Bo did a great job there. Hard to get recruits to visit Nebraska.
They fired Bo and instead of hiring the best coach they could find they went out and hired the nicest coach they could find. The anti-Bo even though Bo gets a bad reputation in the media.

Once again the absurdity of cfb..
N is going to suffer on the field in the B1G...this ain't your daddy' s Big Red

They belong in the Big XII

With the division alignment, in the B1G, there is a huge opportunity on the western side. Iowa seems to be the one taking advantage of not facing Bucks, Sparty, PSU, and Michigan yearly.

No they don't. With that O they would get boatraced on a weekly basis & be relegated to fighting with Kansas & Iowa State for table scraps. With Texas schools like Baylor & TCU emerging as national powers, Houston beginning to build a solid foundation & A&M moving to the SEC (which gave the SEC a stronger recruiting presence in the state) Nebraska's Texas recruiting pipeline was effectively closed & you're not going to be competitive in today's Big XII without getting some of those amazing Texas athletes (something WVU is about to learn).

Bo Pelini laughing right now.
This was predictable. Any time a successful coach is pushed out and a new one comes in and wants to do things different the kids are not going to buy in. They don't view themselves as losers, its not like they went 2-10.

This happened to a degree under Graham and would have happened with Haywood even worse. It happened at Tennessee and will happen at LSU and Georgia if they ever do anything stupid. Will cost themselves 5-10 years minimum.

Riley is going to get fired.

I doubt they fire him this year as they switched their offense. I don't know if he will make 3 yrs, in this fashion, like RR did at Michigan.

They should break open the piggy bank for the best coach they can afford, and staff as well, or go after the former Buckeye OC who is the HC of Houston.

My opinion anyways.

They fired a coach who averaged 9 wins, which wasn't good enough for their delusional fan base. They hired a guy who twice had made Oregon State respectable, but not a major power. I think they hired him because he ran an option attack at Oregon State and that is what Nebraska ran in their glory days.

The problem is he doesn't have the personnel to run the option. The other problem is that their defense is atrocious. That started under Pellini, which was surprising because he was a defensive coach. But, they were pitiful against Purdue, which won its first Big 10 home game in 4 years.

I think if they fire Riley after one year it would be tough for them to get a top replacement. On the other hand, if they give a pot of money to Riley to voluntarily retire, they have a better chance of hiring an up and comer. I don't think Hermann will leave Houston after one year unless it is for his dream job, which I suspect is Texas. They have a better chance of getting the Memphis coach, Fuentes, or Ruhle, the Temple coach. But it is estimated there will be up to 20 head coaching jobs on FBS teams open after the season, and I don't think Nebraska will be one of the plums.

Enough cash will put lipstick on any "pig". Nebraska doesn't have much of a state talent base, but flip someone 5 plus million, and it is amazing who will sign on the dotted line.

I was surprised we paid Harbaugh 5M, as we always went cheap all the way back to Bo. It is criminal to not get the best coach you can afford. The return on your investment is immense. From ticket sales, school more appealing to general students, merchandise sales etc. Bama has already proven it, and I hope we do as well.

Of course there are the Charlie Weis type coaches out there so buyer beware.

Yep, it was good move by the Big ten. Now Alvarez Wisconsin is joined by Nebraska as being the two biggest Programs in that division, and Iowa has the Best Coach. The rest will struggle just like Rutgers, Indiana, and Maryland in your Division.

Osborne used to have 200 Player Rosters with 4 Offense Teams against 4 Defense Teams practicing equal snaps, with many Nebraskan Walk-Ons and County Scholarship and one reason why they were so good.

Once the Big-12 was formed and Osborne left for Congress. Texas made sure Non-Qualifiers were limited to less than 4 a year and Nebraska objected. They went to the Big Ten because they can take as many Non-Qualifiers they want so long as they sit out a year until they can prove they do College Course Work.

Steve Pederson cut down those roster sizes too at NU and one reason why he was hated so much too!
