New football CBS tonight and interesting fact

I hadn't paid attention to this league

I did watch the game, the unfortunate player was worse than his poor stats indicate, he threw at least two more passes that could have easily been picked, and had a pretty bad IG penalty at a crucial time.

I see your point .
But how about a kid who comes in competing for a Qb position that ends up carrying a clip board four 4 years ? Do you strip him with him knowing full well an education is probably all he will gain being recruited ?
Yes, why not? there are thousands in his class that have to be burdened by debt for a lifetime, why not him? Just because he was good at football in high school? How about some kid that was good at physics in high school?

This league needs to expand and allow kids right out of HS, who see no value in a college education, and only want to prepare for the NFL while earning a paycheck.

Why stop there? They should allow middle school kids, or get clemency for prisoners to play. I for one would watch OJ get slammed by an 8th grader, sign me up!

Dontez Ford did look good actually. Im guessing this will the NFL farm system. I cant imagine ratings will be much, since even the NFL has been tanking until the slight uptick this year, and just the general loss of viewers on the networks.

why would be eliminating a scholarship and roster spot for a player be better for them than having them be a backup role player? That's what im missing here. some of you are saying that being on a roster with little if any chance of laying is a really bad thing.. why is this bad and who is it bad for? so having them not on team and paying for tuition is better? Who thinks this?

It's not so much that there will be a lot of guys that could, it's that now they can't. The three years removed from HS class graduation is arbitrary.

Kids should be allowed to enter some sort of NFL employment at age 18, even if it's a developmental league, if they're not physically ready to be in the majors.

Capiche?

That's true in that I'm sure there have been cases of talented high school players, who couldn't hack being in college, and 3 years in between that kills their chances.

Yeah, it isnt a difficult concept to follow.

Just think its nuts. I mean, boo freaking hoo, if they cant hack college, maybe they cant handle getting paid lots of money for catching a ball. Guess what, I couldnt hack med school either, but I wouldnt operate tomorrow.

They are allowed to enter NFL employment at age 16 actually, they can do whatever remedial job there is that they have the skill set for. I just dont understand why so many jobs that we all do require a prerequirement and its no big deal, but tell a football player he has to go to college and its a bad thing.

Basketball is different, you arent being hit by older men.

Getting an education from Med School to be a Dr. is a far cry from setting an arbitrary 3 year from HS rule to play a game for a living.

You know as well as I do that the real reason isn't to protect a kid for three years, it's so the NFL has the most amount of data available to use for their draft.

The NFL doesn't want to spend money on something they can currently get colleges to do for them.

Well, if they go into the NFL and get "hit by older men" and can't hack it, it's their fault, not anyone else's. so who cares?

Well, sure, that is the easy answer. But I think lawyers would argue that a reasonable person could see that injury coming and have a lawsuit.

Me. Cuz anything that keeps Pitt in the running for 4 stars that right now would rather go to the blue bloods and sit, I'm fur it, not agin it.

Really good players will still get good opportunities for scholarships at good schools. Maybe a Georgia Tech, not Georgia. Or Georgia St, not Georgia Tech. And so forth. I mean, it's about getting an education... right? Isn't that the charade, I mean, raison d'etre?

It distributes out to the point that maybe a few extra kids don't get stipends, or as much of one, to play at Geneva or Bethany or whatever.

If those are the best place such guys can make a roster, those guys shouldn't be getting money to play football in college.

Because . One knee injury puts him at the forefront . Starting for the 4 star Qb that gets a full ride . Imo .

They’d probably have to follow labor laws but if there is some 18 yr old in 8th Grade why not....

Btw The Juice is on the loose, but you came close to a great idea.

Form one team with prisoners only( lifers or on death row) ...The Mean Machine; cheerleaders , stolen uniforms ...the whole 9 yards.

This is a weird thing to hope for
True, maybe it's just me, I'm weird, I admit it. But I'd rather watch Pitt play D3 level against CMU or W&J than watch the Pittsburgh What's their names, with better quality players, in the G League or AAF. As much as college sports has become like a pro minor league, I'd still say allegiance to the school is still a bigger draw over the quality of the players.

This perception that "elite" students don't also get free educations is silly. There are only 5,500 or so P5 football scholarships. Those are your "elite" football players. There are at least that many kids at Coastal Division schools getting academic scholarships and I don't know for certain but Duke probably could cover that by themselves (seriously, I was shocked that a goofy farm kid from the middle of nowhere PA who was really good at math could attend Duke and walk out of there in four years without owing anything).
