New VBall recruit?

Maeder or Morningstar from Cal? Both of them would have one year of eligibility left. Morningstar is from Pittsburgh, I believe.
Maeder was trending heavily to be Creightons starting setter next year, taking her from them would be a huge get as a gap year before Hoppe

Daughter of former Pitt basketball player Darren Morningstar? He was at the PItt-Cal vball match.
Don't think it's Morningstar.....is she even in the portal? She signed with Louisville.....left after 1 or 2 years....never played there.....has been at Cal for a couple of years....and she played in 3 sets this season. Was she hurt. Not sure about Maeder.

It has to be someone already in the portal or an incoming 2025 recruit that is a HS senior and has decided to go elsewhere. I hope it's Chicoine from Purdue....but I'm probably wrong.

They were never gonna let her replace VVG no matter how she played, too loyal. Now is her chance
at the net Bayless is an upgrade, quite a bit on the block but not as much on kills although IF she wuld vary her hitting angles with her hand she has more upside there

back row big downgrade and not because VVG was awesome but good and Bayless is not

serve who knows?

I mean VVG wasnt exactly good her first couple seasons in the back either, but was able to improve. Bayless can do the same

Chicoine reportedly committed to Louisville. I can’t imagine we would take Morningstar. We have two returning MBs and she has sat on the bench at Cal. I don’t know anything about Maeder except that she is a setter. She was ACC setter of the week one week this year, but she was a senior so unless she has a year of eligibility left…

Bayliss is a 3 rotation player. We need to use her like Louisville uses Robbins, PSU uses Jurevicious and Nebraska uses Jackson. Can’t use her in the back row.

yeah, maybe, but small sample size this year from BB makes me wonder

I do think VVG improved but back row clearly was Pitt's weakness, nobody was elite and while biggest need is replacing Rachel, if we don't improve back row that will be our achilles

I think Fisher gave VVG some leeway in her back row defense because she always has been an effective server. Bayliss is not. Bayliss does have a small sample size as a back row defender, but it is much worse than VVG was her first two years. I don’t think Fisher used Bayliss as much as he could have in the front row. I think she is a better hitter and blocker than VVG. VVG ran hot and cold, and when she ran cold, Bayliss should have replaced her in the front more.

I think he could have subbed Bayless more too, why didn't he? Wanted to continue to see VVG work in the back row and work to improve in real game?

I don't know the sub rules at all but know they are limited so was that it considering what he needed to do elsewhere or be ready to do with Babcock's serve if she was off in a critical situation?

These things are all true - Bayless has more upside as a hitter and blocker than VVG, Bayless is not anywhere close to that potential currently and was not a better hitter than VVG this year, and Bayless needs to become a better passer and back row defender to be a full time starter next year. Even if she only plays three rotations as a front row player, she will need to return some serves because Pitt doesn’t use a DS instead the back for Babcock. Otherwise you are left with just two receivers in Stafford and Meyer (assuming she’s the Lib next year)

Anaya Warren, #1 LIB in the Class of 2025, Just de-committed from Purdue. Followed on Instagram by Kamalani Akeo and all of the 2025 and 2026 commitments. Would immediately start there next year. Maybe its her
Any noise on volley talk about this?

Where did you see that she decommitted from Purdue? I can only find that she flipped from Indiana to Purdue in October. Thx.

is Mallorie not quite that player? what we saw of her looked very good to me

do we have the necessary setter on the team with Haiti?
If Meyer was a star libero she likely would've passed up Klika already, who was very good but not a star. I'm sure meyer is gonna end up being a very good player, I just want a pitt version of Scott or Rodriguez haha.

I'm much more bullish then most on Haiti, I think she's gonna end up being very good.

I don’t understand the hate for Klika. Pitt’s defense was so much better this year. Yeah, would be awesome to have an elite Libero but you were elite at two positions, maybe three. You can’t expect to be elite at every position.
I love Emmy, don't mean to hate on her and I believe she's a very good libero. I'm just dreaming about adding an elite libero to next years team, which seems possible due to rumors in this thread.

I think if they looked at all close in talent level, and Emmy was certainly very good while not great, I think you don't have a freshman pass up a 4 year experienced senior

I have no real sense but if I were coach that's likely how I would manage libero
