New VBall recruit?

I don’t understand the hate for Klika. Pitt’s defense was so much better this year. Yeah, would be awesome to have an elite Libero but you were elite at two positions, maybe three. You can’t expect to be elite at every position.
Klika was an average libero, it is what it is. She rarely dug spikes cleanly-usually off the side of her arm, out of play. The past few matches that Meyer played, she dug a few spikes perfectly, indicating that she was doing a good job reading the hitter. Klika was good at picking up the tips, and setting, but the team's biggest weakness was backrow defense, and she was a part of that. I'd love for Pitt to get an elite libero to replace Emmy. And I'm also hoping that Meyer can be a defensive specialist to possibly play backrow for Bayless. H2P

Average is harsh imo, she was legitimately very good, just not top level

I guess I'm comparing her to ranked teams' libero. Of course she's above average or she wouldn't be playing for Pitt. I'll say she's average for being on a ranked team, and of the final 4 teams' liberos, I'd sadly have to put her at 4th/4. H2P

Yea and not to pile on her more but 2 or maybe even 3 of PSU’s littles and all 3 of Nebraska’s littles are better passers and defenders than Klika imo. So she’s probably the 7th or 8th best little in the final four. Plus she doesn’t serve. I think Meyer or someone else can be a step up

On VolleyTalk nothing definitive, but the talk concerning transfers to Pitt was mainly about setters and liberos and the names mentioned
were Warren, Meador from Cal, possibly Ramsey Gary from Indiana who just entered portal this morning and someone named Mosher, who I have no info on.

One more name, and this would be a shocker: Chloe Chicoine. I mention her only because she very recently has been followed by at least 4 Pitt players and commits.

Emery Dupes- libero from Florida State - is one of them

More of a Logan Mosley type pickup. Can come in as a back row DS. Not starting libero caliber player.

Seems likely the other one is setter Brooke Mosher from Illinois

Will the setter be like our backup setter from this year, or better?

We get Chicoine....and I'm over the moon. I'd even start believing in Santa Claus again!

Dupes only averaged 1.08 digs per set, which is extraordinarily low for a libero. For comparison, Gary averaged over 4 digs per set at Indiana. I’m sort of astounded by this considering what is out there. Gary was the starting libero in the US Under 21 National Team.

I'm only disappointed cause I let my hopes get a little too high, I trust Fish and he obviously trusts Meyer/sees something in Dupes. As a result, I'm good with this.

I see that Dupes just came back this year from an ACL tear. She was named to the all ACC freshman team in 2021. I'm wondering whether she was fully recovered this year.

I think she only played sparingly. Not sure why there’s hand wringing about defense. I feel like the staff knows what it’s doing.

So the other recruit apparently is Brooke Mosher, the setter from Illinois. The best thing about her is that she is tall and can block and also get an occasional kill. She will be a redshirt senior

One person on VolleyTalk said they offered Dupes and she committed before Gary entered the portal. Gary was the libero on the national team that Fisher coached.

Pitt volleyball fans suffer from libero envy I think. Everyone loved Emmy.....but she wasn't an All American.....like Scott and Rodriquez. We fans fail to realize that elite liberos don't 'grow on trees'. This year the AVCA named only 5 liberos among the 97 athletes that were named as All Americans. Since back row defense begins with highly skilled liberos.....Pitt fans are 'hand wringing' as you suggest. But it's an over simplification to conclude that improving Pitt's back row defense is only about getting an elite libero. Pitt added Dupes today. Let's see who else he brings in to build the 2025 team. Fisher is an elite coach.....and I'm going to agree with you that he and his staff know what they are doing.

I think Mosher has a strong serve as well. I wonder if she is expected to come in and start or will it be Haiti?

Mosher was also on the B1G all freshman team when she began her career at Illinois. Fisher has a knack for molding upper classmen transfer athletes into All Americans....Gray, Member-Meneh, and Monks come to mind.

I think we need an elite libero because Stafford and Babcock's backrow emphasis is offense, and Fairbanks set. That left basically Klika and VVG to focus on defense. I assume Babcock and Stafford will continue to play 6 rotations.

This is the type of pickup I was thinking we’d get at setter. Solid, experienced starter with one year of eligibility left.

I like Haiti and think she could be a solid starter, but with her coming off an injury, this makes me feel much better about the position going into next year. Haiti and Mosher give Pitt two good options. Then the spot opens back up for 2026 when Hoppe joins the team.

So do you think we're recruiting Warren? I'd still be ok with the top libero recruit

Anyone know the details on roster numbers? Assuming the Dupes and Mosher additions, along with incoming freshmen - any spots remaining?

We lose Fairbanks, Flood , VVG , Klika

I would presume ( with zero information) we lose at least one or 2 more to the portal.

Would seem we would still add 1 or 2 more depending on who else moves on.

Out - VVG . Cat, Rachel, Emmy , Nisa - 5
In - Mosher (ILL) , Dupes (FSU, and incoming Freshman Samara Coleman and Abbey Emch - 4

Im not sure of what the roster limits are or if any of the other ladies are transferring or deciding to enter the portal

Everyone needs an elite libero but there aren't all that many running around. Sort of have to remember that coach can go to a showcase and can throw a stick into a crowd and hit a dozen average liberos. There really aren't many that anyone would accuse of being elite out there.

More than ever, coaches expect Liberos to be the second setters. Fisher's offense really demands you have someone back there that can help the offense stay aggressive with out of system plays. Part of this team's success was that constant offensive pressure. Klika was really good at that. There's a lot more to it than sensational digs.

I just hope whoever we add helps in back row defense and can serve some balls that can earn us some easy points every now and again

Some noise on volleytalk this AM about babcock to the portal, seems like BS, but I do not like it either way. Wish we had some vball insiders here to give us a scoop haha.

So is the volleyball portal the same as football portal? Where it ends Dec 28th? Is there a spring portal as well?

If someone (Jerritt Elliot) tampered with her and a big school that loves to throw money at transfers (Texas) went at her, I could see it happening.
Posters on that board have already seemed to come to the conclusion that it was just random speculation from a new poster, not actually based on anything.

edit: that will not stop me from refreshing the portal rumor thread on that board pretty much all day tho lmao

There are a lot of "blue blood" programs that absolutely hate Pitt because it has an upstart program. A lot of old school fans would be happy to go back to the days of B1G and west coast domination.

That’s my biggest worry, keeping our top players in this Wild West of college athletics.
