Do we even have a good shot at anybody? I see guys like Timberlake and Dickinson taking visits without even a Pitt mention. Puff made an OV to ND and isn't picking Pitt over UNC. I know its early but there isn't anybody you can point to and say, we have a good shot at.

2020s have begun taking their OVs and July-September is the big commitment period with 80% off the board by November. We need to see some movement.

As others have mentioned, a lot depends on how many OVs we actually have. Does anyone know how many we will have for next year? We can’t bring people in for OVs if we don’t even have them. Whereas there was mixed feelings from posters regarding this years class, I was very pleased given the handicapping Stallings left Capel with regarding OVs.

Absurd question to ask if we “even have a good shot at anybody.”

From everything we’ve seen, I think a 2020 class of Davis, Gordon, and Hugley is very, very possible. That still leaves room for players like Johnson, who we will absolutely be involved in to the end, and another forward to pair with Hugley.

I'm way out of the loop on college basketball recruiting.
I get most of my info from this board.
But it seems to me recruiting has been a BIG bust.
I thought Capel - with his resume and reputation - was going to be fighting players off.

I'm admittedly under informed - but still very disappointed with the results so far.

Gordon and Hugley are ranked 150 and 155. Not sure who Davis is but if those are our bets, then that's a bad sign. The only way you can win in the ACC with classes like that or the 2019 class is if the guys stay 4 years and dont go to the NBA or transfer but nobody stays at the same place for 4 years anymore

I suggest you take the opportunity to inform yourself, as RJ Davis might be the top point guard on our 2020 board now that Quinerly is going to Alabama. https://247sports.com/Player/RJ-Davis-45573406/

Those three alone would have given us right around the #40 class in 2019, and we’ll have two more scholarships to play with beyond that. All three are primed to move upwards as we move into the summer, especially Hugley - where we currently appear to be his favorite.

OK, that's a good rank for Davis but if your next best 2 are 150 and 155, those guys are typically a year or 2 away from making a difference and hypothetically, your 2020-21 team is still not that close to being NCAAT-worthy

Davis
McGowens
Toney
Hugley
Brown

I take it you’ve written off a third year for X already?

RJ Davis probably playing like a top 100 talent at all the camps, showcases, wherever he's been playing at recently. As a poster said above, Davis, Hugley, Gordon, Johnson (don't feel positive about him unfortunately), Curbelo, Cliff (BIG TIME) and others are in the mix.

Cliff is the white whale in this class - I like him a whole lot more than Dickinson. Seems like we’ve got a shot, but need to get his attention away from Kentucky. Not exactly an easy ask.

There’s also the seven footer from Huntingdon who plays for Wildcats Select, though I can’t recall his name off the top of my head.

You are getting worse and worse with your ridiculous takes...worse yet, they are endless throughout the day.

It's one thing to assume he'll leave early, it's another to jump to the conclusion that it will be after year two when we're in the first week of June.

I'm a fan, I can do that. Capel and staff have to plan as if Johnson won't be here.

BIG bust? Have you heard that we have 4 recruits for next year. Just because none of them are Shaq or Kareem doesn't mean recruiting is a BIG bust.

That's a team ranked:

40
95
117
186
and a 4th year ACC starting C, plus a bench of

166 (Drumgoole)
191 (Champagnie)
221 (Coulibaly).

I consider all of our bench players to outperform their ranking, especially by next year. Drumgoole in particular is going to play like a top 150 player, if not top 100. You can absolutely make the NCAA tournament with an entire team that's either experienced and/or ranked in the top 150.

You are putting a lot of faith in a hypothetical FR PG and a SR Center who more than likely will never become a legitimate ACC-level player.

It's like clockwork. I have to put him on ignore every, single, summer. I legitimately think he goes off his meds. Wish the mods would go the time-out route because he starts so many damn threads that when you ignore him, you potentially miss out on some actual salient thoughts and insights from competent posters within his threads. It's a pick your poison situation....

Yep. I think that when he was an infant that his first baby bottle must have been a "half-empty" one--or, even a completely empty one!

You are asking a clown to get informed!!!!!! Nice try but his game is to bash Pitt every little opportunity his spiteful brain tells him to. Knowing his stuff would cause him to delete 99% of his posts. But nice try...

I think you should take some time to watch the players. For example Hugley is a high major prospect who could be a force as a freshman and all conference by his Jr year.

The rankings outside the top 30 are pretty much nonsense. Coulibaly and Champangie both dropped almost 100 spots in a matter of a month or so. It's crazy to think 100 other recruits improved that much in a month or they regressed that much.

Hugley moved up 103 spots in the new rankings.
You read that right. 103.
That's a ridiculous jump.
He's in the 80's now.

Who’s the idiot? The poster who posts his Pitt Sports opinion on a Pitt sports message board or the people that have to get personal and insult?

I’ll hang up and listen

SMF you could run a clinical training on hyperbole. He kept last year's team competitive in most games which was a feat in and of itself. Simmer down a bit we will be fine. When they do start to perform you will start freaking out about Capel getting poached.

Problem is with our current 2019 roster we may win 4 total ACC games and barely be over .500 for our season record. That will make it even harder to get any of these guys. That was a large reason we did so poorly with this 2019 recruiting class.

I'm pretty sure he's a 2021 kid, but does anyone know where Jeffress from McDowell is considering? Can we get James Connor to live at his house or something? I know he's currently playing in the FIBA U16 tournament for team USA in Brazil.

He has a good relationship with him but he's a blue blood kid. Same with AJ Griffin.

I can’t say I know our chances with most of these kids. But as far as Gordon I believe we are going to land him. He has nice offers but is underrated and IMO is going to turn into a big time player. He will add wt and continue to improve his J. Already is a long athlete who plays hard and can really finish around the rim.

Yeah I agree that DJ is by far the most obtainable.
If friendships matter, which they may or may not, him and Hugley have become good friends.

247's recently updated their rankings- Davis is 102; Hugley is 83 and DJ is 193.

To put all of this into perspective for you Ethan Morton is now 121.
