Next year's starting lineup

Ford is flat out a difference maker and will likely be on the field from day one.

TMac has put in the time, presumably learned the playbook, and will be running the team come spring ball. I have heard nothing that would lead me to believe that the coaches are not comfortable with him being our starter. I think he is ready, and deserves that chance. I have been waiting for us to recruit a real quarterback, I think we have one and it is time to find out. I don't want us to become known as grad-transfer U, at the quarterback spot, when we recruited a solid QB in TMac!

Grad transfers are still a decent way to plug holes. Here a year and gone. And even if MacV is ready and starts - what if he gets hurt? What if he plays a cpl games and they find out he might not be quite ready? And it also won't hurt to make MacV earn it if it does turn out he's the guy.

What about the fact that we are putting our hat in the ring for every one year grad transfer QB out there? It's no secret-those guys are looking to go where they are most likely to play immediately. It's their last chance. When they visit Pitt, it's because they're being told we need a starting QB next season.

That's how this works.

Anyone saying that Zaire or Browne would come in and compete for a job obviously doesn't know how it works. Both will be ordained as the day #1 starter next season at whichever school they choose.

They would have a leg up for sure

I think most of what you have looks about right, the ones that I might change is Edwards to DE over Blair and giving Zeise another look at OLB. Also, I think the secondary is a crapshoot at this point. I'd go starter by committee across from Hamlin. I like the suggestion of putting some of our sophomores there that are more talented than Maddox and let them grow into the role.

No disrespect to Dinucci but he probably isnt a major D1 QB. So if MacVittie goes down, there goes the season.

It is much more comforting having MacVittie backup a grad transfer, providing a good option if the starter gets hurt.

And any good grad transfer isnt coming here unless he's pretty much assured of the job.

what grad transfer wants to go to a school to back up a freshman? Cant see too many people signing up for that..

Yea. Sounds like a great idea to promise a kid who has started all of 3 games and was mostly unremarkable a starting QB job.
well is it any less crazy to go into a season handing the starting spot to a kid who has never played a down of college ball and has about 7-8 games of varsity football under his belt?

I am looking forward to McVittie more than anyone but lets not act like he is a seasoned veteran himself.. I don't know what a coach tells a grad transfer, I doubt he is signing any promises in paper but I would guess, you tell this guy that he will have first, second and third crack at the job if he comes to Pitt. I don't think the "best man will play, you are all on even ground" Coach-speak works to well for a 5th year grad transfer who has one more season of eligibility left..
