OK, so Patti seems to suddenly be 'next man up.'
I wished that DiNucci had stayed around as the backup, because of his experience. But with him gone, Patti may well be the backup. Which caused me to go look at his film again. I suggest you do the same.

The thing that immediately jumps out with him is his release. I don't know that I've ever seen one this quick before. Its Marino-like. (Disclaimer: I didn't say he is as good as Marino, only that Patti's release reminds me of his.)

While he will be a raw alternative to DiNucci if Pickett gets hurt, Patti clearly looks to be more talented than Ben.

There is a good chance that we'll get an older JUCO transfer, and he may win the backup job. But if its Patti, and he learns as quickly as Pickett, all may not be lost if his number gets called next year, he as he seems to have a ton of potential.

If the coaches could be assured of a repeat performance of what Pickett did
occurs with Patti, there would be no problem. They definitely have to bring in another
QB with either JUCO or grad transfer experience. Expecting a true frosh to be
ready is IMO, too big of a gamble.

He does look like he has some zip on his ball.

Does anybody have video of the new JUCO ?

Maybe a local kid like JJ Cosentino can come in and be a backup. He would be an additional arm. He comes from a Pitt family and would get a free education for a year.

We don't want a true freshman backup playing behind a true soph QB. Patti will want to RS too seeing as how he would have to wait 3 years behind Pickett to be the starter. I'm sure Patti is already concerned about that after getting the DiNucci news. Hopefully the coaches can get someone capable into the program to provide some quality depth.

Patti's good.

I hope you are right....we are going to find out. This QB situation is crazy.

Need Patti to redshirt so there is a 2 year gap between him and Pickett. Gives Patti 2 years as the starter and so on with who comes behind him. Who knows Pickett may opt to go to NFL after junior year if all goes well.

Patti has some good film. Nice arm, accurate in the pocket or on the move, but seems like he needs a lot of work on his mechanics, particularly his footwork.

“have to wait 3 years behind Pickett” is a big assumption isn’t it? Ask some Jersey coaches and they’ll tell you differently.

His offer list of Rutgers Temple and Bc isn't exactly inspiring but his highlight tape looks good. Definitely wouldn't be ideal to have him out there as a true freshman, although it rarely ever is.

Raleigh - good observation. There is a requisite to "a quick release" - relying on the hip-turn/torso to generate additional power for the throw. Marino was taught that by his father and it made all the difference. The opposite of employing the hip-twist to generate power is to rely solely on the shoulder. Lots of people do this... and when they do, you'll see the long, looping arm path (think Todd Blackledge). Throwing is just mechanics... and no one's mechanics were as efficient as Danny's.

A tweet of his popped up on my timeline. This kid needs to eat and throw some weights around. I’m sure they’ll get him going but there doesn’t look like there’s much to him at the moment.

Patti's Hudl film is of his junior year. Under the Lights film on Alaimo shows a lot of senior year film on him and perhaps his senior year Hudl comes soon, as I've seen a lot of SJR Hudl tapes on Twitter recently.

Junior year film...he played at about 10-15lbs heavier this season, based on player weights from SJR's roster.

Footwork, footwork, footwork. Montana.

Unlikely as he won’t be able to enroll early as picket did. Having spring ball is a big leap to understanding the play book.

He may need a little mechanical work, but he's already years ahead of Dinucci in 3 important ways - throws off his front foot, head always scanning down field - even under pressure, zips the ball on a rope. Ben always threw off his back foot, no ability to scan the field, threw rainbows. We can work with that.

Pitt fans predicting what's going to happen 3 to 4 years from now are funny. I know many unforeseen things will happen beteeen now and then. anyone trying to protect it is foolish
