Can some of you cheap asses start tossing in $20/month? NIL sucks, but it's just the cost for a form of entertainment, just like many of you subscribe to Hustler Magazine for $20/month or spend $20/month on high heels from Payless so you can wear them around the house when your wives are away on business.

I see Peak has another post on it on the main board, which means A412 reached out to him so he could let us all know we suck. But I feel like more small commitments from the peasants like us could lead to exponential gains, as they would inspire the bigger fish to kick in more. I don't think it's merely a dollar-for-dollar concept whereby our money is just a few teardrops in the ocean. I just think the Bickels of the world probably get sick of doing all the lifting themselves.

It's fun when Pitt is 6-0. It's not fun when Pitt is 3-9. $20/month - which may not even be forever, depending on how this all shakes out - should help with achieving something closer to the first record than the second one.

I hate making posts like this, because it sounds like something one of you cheerleading peckerheads would make for a cheap pop. But it seems like the importance of this continues to slip through the cracks with Pitt fans.

Pitt has 2 main problems:

1. A small amount of undergraduate alumni compared to most P4s.

2. Most Pitt fans have a pro sports mentality and are pretty big Steeler/Pens/Pirates fans so this idea of having to directly pay players isn't something they can get behind. They'd rather the cost be hidden in a ticket to a Steeler game.

Right, it's pretty much nothing. However, of 10k to 15k fans did it, it would be significant.

2024 Football Season Ticket Renewal Confirmation

Dear Sexy Werewolf,

Thank you for renewing your 2024 Pitt Football Season Tickets online.

Please note that your Panther Club Scholarship Seating Alliance 412 Membership Fees, if applicable, are included on this renewal application. Football season ticket buyers who purchase premium tickets and parking are required, as a condition of purchase, to make the designated annual scholarship seating and parking payment an additional Alliance 412 donation at the time of their renewal. For more information, please contact the Panther Club at 412-648-8889.

As a season ticket holder, you are eligible to request tickets to Pitt Football away games. If you have not requested your away game tickets, you will have until April 1, 2024, to place your request for priority. A request is not a guarantee that we will be able to fulfill your order and we will confirm all away game requests in June. Please note that seating for away games is almost always located in the upper level end zone of the venues that we visit, and you should never go to games in Morgantown for risk of being beaten to a pulp by five drunken hicks over a silly football game.

Thank you for your continued support of the Pitt Panthers and Alliance 412.

HAIL TO PITT and Alliance 412.

Preach my brother, preach. Amen!

Before I make my point, I would just like to say that I am as big Pitt sports. Have been a season ticket holder for Pitt Football, Pitt Men's Basketball and Pitt Women's Basketball for over 25+ years. I have always been bother by the "donation" that the Pitt AD has added to the cost of my season tickets and parking pass. I have paid the "donation", because I had to pay it to get my tickets, I did not consider it a "donation" because we all know that it isn't one. Have always wondered why Pitt didn't just raise the cost of the season tickets for the amount that they wanted the "donation" for.
Now, I am not thrilled by the Alliance 412 group. When they first started, there was way to many questions and not enough answers about the Alliance 412 group and where (and how) the money collected would be distributed. So, I have not donated to the group as of yet. I do have a question though. The University of Pittsburgh has an endowment of roughly $5.5 Billion Dollars. Why not take some money from that endowment to fund the NIL deals of its student athletes?

It's better for Pitt to charge you a donation fee rather than raise the price of tickets. Reason being, there are significant taxes on ticket prices, that include amusement tax and regular taxes. Donations go 100% to the university, while only a portion of ticket $s go to the university.

On your endowment question, be prepared to be lambasted by certain posters. Even though plenty of the endowment funds could be directed towards whatever the university wanted. Not that I'm advocating endowment funds be directed towards athletics, but there is a large percentage of endowment funds that are not restricted. Certain posters won't admit that, then would rather talk down on people about it.

See: https://pittsburgh.forums.rivals.co...duzzis-last-year-at-pitt.235350/#post-4573266

In the addition to the above link, keep in mind while Pitt's total endowment pool serving its 5 campus system looks large and is current ranked 29th in total size among universities overall, a rank which has been steadily dropping btw as returns have been poor recently, the more accurate way to evaluate it is endowment per student, where is ranked 131st.

Nope
Not a dime to NIL

Really surprised its that many. Very soon, you'll have to be an A412 member to buy tickets so it'll grow then. Panther Club will be retired.

It sounds like we're on life support, honestly, so something like that needs to happen.

I think we're probably screwed no matter what at the end of the day unless a different model than what currently exists is put into place (namely, the salary cap model in conjunction with fair market value regulationof NIL deals). So it's all about being scrappy enough to compete until that happens, which hopefully won't be long.

The salary cap model is coming as soon as next year due to the House settlement. Colleges will pay athletes $20 million. As I've said, as part of this, the NCAA wants to start enforcing the pay for play NIL deals which is what A412 and all the other collectives are. We can debate whether that will happen or not but that's the plan. They are requiring all deals over $600 to go through a clearinghouse to determine if its fair market value. Appearing at an animal shelter for 30 minutes isn't worth $250K.

Now, that PSU guy will be here within the hour to tell us that there's no way that the NCAA will go through with this and they'll get sued. They probably will get sued and they'll probably lose and that would be the last suit they lose before they become full professionals.

Perhaps Pitt is taking this into account and realizing that the $20 million they will have to pay athletes wont be enough and they'll also need a robust pay for play fan NIL system on top of that. Personally, I think that once the colleges start paying the players, contributions to collectives nationally will drop way off.

As long as "fans" refuse to participate in what the rest of the college athletics fan bases are doing a much better job participating in, let alone the ones that proudly beat their chest about it every opportunity or histrionically show their hypocritical attitudes while lamenting the days when the Golden Panthers were engaged in a seedy version of the same thing, Pitt is doomed to return in 1996 or 1966. And that is the biggest reason Pitt will be left behind in any future shakeup in athletics because everything follows success on the court and field, and that is the only thing that can even be attempted to be controlled. Too many self-proclaimed Pitt's fan base simply don't care enough to put their own skin in the game. You'll know which self proclaimed "fans" tried to help and which ones didn't...evidence is everywhere on this board.

Don't get me wrong: I hate NIL. I feel like the players should be paid, and it should be by the entities who actually profit off their services. But I just look at it like this: our season tickets cost a lot less than many other teams' do. So, what's another $20/month on top of that. I just consider it to be a fee for the "Pitt experience" or whatever.

Yep. And these boards they all like to come on, and spew all that nonsense will disappear. Then they will all end up looking stupid because they cant crack the dumb jokes about Pitt anymore.

Color me with this brush. And think whatever you like. I work hard for my money and you’re right - I don’t “care enough”.

I’m very aware things have changed and are changing rapidly. Financing college athletes is not a priority for me and never will be.

But just so it’s clear I won’t crap on whoever does. People should spend their money however they like.

Maybe someone in the know can chime in, but is there a tax advantage for donating as opposed to paying for season tickets?

If this is the case (and you laid it out in a reasonable and credible manner), then Pitt will be a player in the non revenues only. IF that is the case, then Victory Heights is (will be) money well worth spent.

As opposed to sinking $$$ into football with no real chance of being a major player on an annual basis.

Every team seems to think that their NIL game is awful. I have OSU grad friends who refuse to give, and PSU fan friends who refuse to give. A guy in my church went to ND and thinks it is dumb. Which is probably why most team's NIL money is not where it could be, because these opinions are not unusual.

And clearly, it is dumb. Asking fans to foot the bills for NIL is beyond stupid.

It is stupid, and I wish all fans from all teams would band together and put an end to it. But until that happens, it's probably a good idea to at least show modest support so as to not upset the guys who are contributing more significant amounts. If the Average Joe doesn't make an effort, neither will they continue to do so.

Unfortunately, there are a lot more people from other schools putting money into it than Pitt, regardless of whether they think it is stupid or not. It is absolutely no different than boosters handing envelopes of cash to the players 40 years ago that seems to be the stuff of nostalgic glamorization.

Like so many other things, Pitt does not operate in a vacuum. It is swimming in the same pond as everyone else. It really is besides the point if you like the pond or not; Pitt will either sink or swim in it.

Regardless, the bulk of the lifting for NIL is always going to be done by a handful of prominent boosters. That's true for every school. I'm sure donations by the Average Joe are always welcome and appreciated. Like you, I would encourage everyone that wants to see Pitt succeed to try to pitch in something.

I think they reach a breaking point if they don't see anyone else pulling their weight. Like if only 699 other people are going to be contributing anything, I think it's a bit deflating for them. Whereas if A412is showing steady growth and attracting solid numbers and people are giving what they can relative to their income, then I think they feel that it's money well spent.

Hopefully the 6-0 with a fairly young team will be more of a driving factor than the lack of support from the average middle class fan.

Yeah, and then Pitt will fall off the map. Why some of you dont get that volleyball, soccor and other non revenue sports dont bring much to Pitt financially, dont know what to tell you.

So yeah, forget about football and basketball, you want to know what will happen? No money and those other sports will go away to because Pitt will not get a damn thing from the ACC or tv. Just really assinine thing to say.

But some schools do fine without football. UConn. Creighton. I don't know what to tell you. If Pitt can't get 50k in the stadium to see the team try to go 6-0 and very few of them are going to give to the NIL, what's the point of trying to sustain a football program with the schools that are all in? I don't know, is that wrong?

I don't want Pitt to give up football but we're quickly reaching a tipping point. In ten years, Pitt will be a have or a have not. I'm just trying to be a realist, knowing what Pitt's history is when it's come to football and doing what it takes to have sustained success.

We should sink it all into volleyball!

No they dont. Uconn cant get into the Big 4. They tried and was denied, even with back to back MB championship.

So your pitch is:

The team is 6-0

We need more NIL money because we dont have a good enough team.

I could say NIL gave us our 3-9 team last year, as we went out and got the free agent QB from BC. He didnt come cheap. But, his crap play gave us that 3-9 result.

I dont agree with pay for play.... I give by going to games. I donate to the school of engineering, I dont donate to play players that dont bring in as much money as the engineering school and med school does. I will be a fan at 3-9 or 9-3. I will travel to away games, I will travel to every bowl game.... if we dont make a bowl, then I will have more money in my bank and still love Pitt just as much.

My pitch is, just as sometimes guys throw no-hitters while tripping on acid, we're 6-0 in spite of our NIL situation and not because of it. And if we go 9-3 I will probably tell you that we could have made the playoff with better NIL funding.

We also brought in a bunch of guys who were unproven at the FBS level. Holstein, Reid, Lee, Williams, etc. And we're getting good returns from some recruits who didn't garner much interest from other P4 schools: Louis, Lovelace, Brookins, BJ Williams, etc.

It's great that they're working out, but we'll see how cheap they all are next season.

I think you can argue that there's SO MUCH redistribution that you can have teams like Pitt, Syr, Vandy, IU, etc be good on the cheap.
