That was quick. Figured he'd at least scare Arizona into a little raise. Doesn't mean he absolutely isn't coming but guys like Jeff Goodman usually don't put themselves out there like that.

For someone that sleeps in sweaty Sean Miller pajamas, one would think you'd at least be on top of the information.
I think Miller would be a good hire but I honestly don't think hes the be all end all in this case. Hes recruited incredibly well at Zona and has had as many disappointing tourneys as anyone.
The number one guy on the list is Marshall. What hes done at WSU is amazing. The guy can flat out coach. Its fun to imagine what hed do if he had access to better talent.
Having said that I think Pitt ends up with an up and coming coach, like a Keatts or Wade. Not sure the program has the cache or cash to get a Miller or a Marshall (although Wodablue made a pretty compelling argument why Marshall may be interested).
Another thing to consider. What top P5 programs will have openings in the next few years that are far better than Pitt. Timing sometimes is everything. A guy like Marshall may strike while the getting out is good. Hes losing his top players so he may be in for a tough go the next few years.
Regardless of who they hire, I feel pretty good that this time next year, Pitt hoops fans will be pleased with the direction of the program,

People forget what Marshall did at Winthrop. Out of the Big South, one of the worst leagues on par with the NEC or MEAC, he coached Winthrop to an 11 seed which is unheard of and won an NCAAT game. Marshall might be the best coach, pound for pound, in the country. But its hard for me to imagine him settling for Pitt when he could probably call up almost any school and tell them he's coming and they'd fire their coach to get him.

2nd, I'd rather have great recruiting, real NBA type athletes, and mediocre bench coaching, and take my chances, rather than poor recruiting and try to coach up 2 stars to stay 5 years and win with a system.

Maybe in football it makes sense because of the HS football talent in Western PA.
But it makes no sense when recruiting a basketball coach. Look for a coach located in the basketball hotbeds or one with lots of recruiting connections in those areas.
Most of the outside hoops in Pittsburgh have probably been converted to clothes line poles??
It doesn't hurt to make a pitch anyway. I would back a Brinks truck up in Miller's driveway and start unloading cash until he says stop.
