Notre Dame in talks with the ACC about being a full member

It's complete silliness. This is not going to happen and if by some miracle it ever does, they're not bringing Connecticut with them.

Disagree. I'd say the plan all along has been to use the scheduling agreement as a way to ween the fans off independence and into accepting conference membership. We can argue all day about what fans, coaches, or administrators want, but it comes down to what recruits want.

I think Texas would come into play if Notre dame joins

Agree, no question it is happening, OU talking about leaving Big-12, I put up old Articles on how PSU, FSU joined Conferences quietly in Back Room talks even AD's & coaches did not know, look at Maryland was duplicity too with Big Ten.

ND is in play, just like OU,Rumors and Leaks happen on purpose sometimes to alert and and get reaction from key Boosters Alumni!

When I worked for Fortune 500 Top 20 Company, the Company was planning reducing Marketing from 5 regions to 3 and purposely put out the Rumor 2 years earlier so some average employees would flee and not be replaced, sent a stronger message of concern. When the Smart Employees that were the Best asked should I be worried, ones were told, don't worry we are keeping you "if" that rumor is true? In that way, then the only ones left were not so bright ones and given severances.

It was put in memo later this is why that planning happen and some rumors came from Leaks. in reality, it was planning and they went further from 3 to 1 District as well a year later again.

Secondly, CFB Expansion has always been a a surprise after rumors too. ACC was planning Expansion in 2000 and rumors flew Miami heading to ACC and that later turned out to be true. Rumors are used strategically to gauge reactions. Where there is smoke there is a Fire somewhere? Miami was constantly complaining to Big East Expand in FB, and Big East Catholic BB Programs could care less so Miami left! OU has been crying not been crying Wolf Wolf, they have been shouting, spouting, and announcing Expand or we are gone, we are gone.

When a Bird is chirping he attracts attention from predators as he looking for tmates!

Notre Dame smells some something in the Gone With The Wins to get into CFB Playoffs and that means joining the ACC, is my view! Now who is 16th! Why I posted the Link on Big-12 weeks ago! To get Board Posters info and reactions!

Finally, ESPN has been behind some of this Expansions as well. ESPN is looking to reduce costs and expand profits and with ACCN too. It makes sense going to 16 Teams Conferences and adding ND adds value to the ACC & ACCN too. PAC-12 not far behind, B1G won't just stand there and SEC won't remain still either???? Big-12 has problems to address over OU or some of them are looking elsewhere too?
Examples why I posted below months, weeks and just this Friday: When I was in Silicon Valley all of December many discussions Sports Entertainment with High Techs, and on ESPN! Expansion Events are in change just a matter of when now, is my view told to me by others that know or knew.

Could this even happen with ND's NBC contract? In the broader scheme, its the broadcasters who dictate conference affiliations, not the schools.
Beyond that, UConn would seem to be a nice fit. Certainly better than L'ville.

Agree, and It always comes down to money first and foremost as well. ESPN is working hard on addressing its costs, but some Predators Smell Red Ink Costs Blood in the Waters, even though plenty of Income in the Black is just not meeting projections. Disney won't sit still and watch it decline it has options to change things too! Apple can take Bites anytime it wants now and no longer worried about being bitten like it once was by Microsoft?

At the same time, Opportunists with Big Black Balance Sheets see some opportunities to add to their ever increasing plans as well. Entertainment in Silicon Valley is growing not going away and opportunists always looking for a way in rather just pioneering?

ND Contract with ACC and ACCN and you you wrong before and still are, and to dumb to know it! just like you were on Spanier too!

The advantage to ND to remain an independent in football versus being in a conference are fading. The importance of conferences to college football has been growing for years, and the money schools get for being in a conference has been growing.

Don't confuse ND's HISTORIC position on wanting to remain an independent, and the reasons why, with what is in their best interests going forward.

Yeah, I'm not interested in arguing about this either. However, I'm definitely willing to bet anyone who will take me up on it that by January 1, 2020, Notre Dame will still be a football independent. Does anyone want a piece of that?

One Hundred AMERICAN dollars!

Notre Dame is not hurt by their independence in any way. They've been hurt by some bad coaching hires.

People need to understand the Notre Dame mentality. I happen to have two Golden Domers in my family and I know that mentality very well.

They do not care about being the richest school - they have plenty of money.

However, they do care about being the most special school and for many of them that status is tied directly to their football independence.

I just don't know what the ACC could possibly do to cause them to surrender that status?

unconn is a zero add. they are bush league. they brought nothing to the b.e
and bring nothing to the acc. no t.v. sets, no additional recruiting ground, no history, no notable football alum. zip.

can't even believe their name gets brought up

Absent a collapse of the Big 12, who else is a realistic add? Maybe Cincy. I doubt they add another Florida school or extend as far as Houston.

I don't think these discussions are for anything near-term. This probably wouldn't happen for another 5 or 6 years at least. In my opinion, I don't think they are going to do anything until either the CFP expands, or the GORs come up. I think what they are doing now is setting up a game plan so that when/if some outside development happens, they can be ready to pull the trigger.

I think Texas would come into play if Notre dame joins
No doubt. With the current arrangement TX would be a long shot for the ACC. But with ND as a full member I think the ACC actually becomes the most likely destination for the longhorns. If the ACC was able to land both it would put them in a level playing field with the SEC and b10 when it comes to money and recruits.

Ya I agree. The article says the ACC wanted Uconn over Pitt

That's one of UConn fans' favorite narratives...those that still don't grasp it was 90% about football and football markets. What's funny, despite constantly ripping on BC for what an middling, inept athletic department it is, they believe that BC had the power to single handedly block UConn and that is the only reason they aren't in a power 5 conference.

I can't see Texas in the ACC. Not that I wouldn't want them, but I see it as a odd combination.

I'm not sure I see Texas in the PAC either, though. And that's the other logical choice for them if the Big Xll folds.

Which is why I see some power conference remaining in the south central part of the US. Oklahoma and Texas have great HS football, and Texas has the population and recruits to warrant a power conference centered there.

Even if Texas somehow, unlikely as it may be, went to the Big 10 they would be the outlier. I can't see Texas allowing themselves to be in that position.

But, with all of that said, I'd love to have Texas and Notre Dame as full time ACC members.

Yeah, that's a really dumb theory many of them continue to cling too. The former BC A.D. said some really dumb things to overstate his personal influence and it has taken on a life of its own.

Here's the sad part for Connecticut. I don't think they are next in line and I don't think they're ever getting into the ACC.

The BC athletic director was Gene Defillipo He fired the football coach and basketball coach, both of whom were pretty good and had done BC proud. They have never recovered, especially in basketball. Brutal

Way to go Gene !

Sounded more like some butthurt UConn toady who wanted to vent about his school getting ignored by the ACC and hyped some loose fabrication about ND to justify the article.

ACC didn't ignore UCONN. Pitt is fortunate that BC AD want ballistic in order to keep UCONN out during last round of expansion. It was their spot and most in ACC wanted ESPNs baby.

Silly as is the ACC is never going to add 2 teams? Like forever? So say sometime ND joins ACC between now and 2031. Say Texas ends up in Big Ten and Oklahoma ends up in SEC. Who is ACC number 16. If it isn't WVU then who? Program in Texas? Doubt it. Maybe Cinci. Maybe UCONN? Point is you have little idea where all of this ends up so a hardline opinion on any of this stuff is really what's silly.

Question: Could ND joining the ACC force a collapse of the Big 12? ND joining the ACC would further distance the Big 12 from the next closest P5 conference.
It is not just that, what some should think about is ESPN again owned by Disney and needs changes. Notre Dame has a contract with NBC for Football. What better way to increase ESPN with ACCN with ND becoming Total ACC that has Total ESPN Partner?

Now look at Texas Long Horn Network? Where can that be absorbed at the same time easier too? Now some saying ESPN Sport Center will be managed by MSNBC?

I am sensing consolidation in reducing costs, reorganization removal of competitors, and increasing control of just Two Storied Historic Money Makers in CFB, to add to expanded ratings, profits, and unifying them. Just some Guesses with a few Hunches?

Every CFB Realignment Expansion was about increasing Markets, Ratings, Subscribers and now consolidation of adding them while reducing costs.

Getting Notre Dame to change and Texas too, while other add some Big-12 Schools is something to think about.

Good points with facts!

A good article from last year and written by Fox Sports:
Notre Dame is the trump card for the ACC Network’s future
Excerpt:
But as the years go by in college football’s rapidly changing structure — one where a four-team playoff and a selection committee have supplanted polls and bowls in importance —€“ Notre Dame may eventually conclude that independence is no longer a viable route. Especially given one of the committee’s primary points of emphasis is … winning your conference...............Along with the network details, the ACC announced last week that its 15 members (including Notre Dame) extended their existing Grant of Rights agreement until 2036. Notre Dame’s other sports aren’t going anywhere for at least the next two decades. So if it at some point it wants to plant football in a conference, it’s almost certainly going to be in the ACC. .............According to Sports Media Watch, five of its games in 2015 —against Stanford, Clemson, Texas, Virginia and Temple — were among the three highest-rated college football broadcasts that week. Three others (USC, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech) made the top five.........
Were Notre Dame to join, suddenly the ACC Network would hold the rights to as many nationally regarded football brands — Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami, Clemson and, to a lesser extent, Virginia Tech —€“ as any conference network, the SEC’s included. That’s likely to be desirable content no matter what direction the cable industry takes. "I believe sports rights will continue to be the most valuable content," ESPN boss John Skipper said, "and I believe they will continue to appreciate in value."If ESPN and/or the ACC is holding out hope for Notre Dame football, it’s going to have to be a long play. Three years ago, the school extended its contract with NBC through 2025. Theoretically, the Irish could start playing a full ACC schedule before then, but the ACC Network would not hold rights to their home games. Not to mention NBC is paying for a national schedule.............As for distribution, don’t underestimate the school’s relationship with the nation’s largest cable provider, Comcast — NBC’s parent company. Its No. 1 market is Notre Dame alumni hub Chicago, and its coverage areas include ACC states Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts....... But "Wake Up the Echoes?" Those words still resonate with millions of Golden Domers and infuriate millions of others. Which is exactly what makes Notre Dame football such a coveted asset —“ one the ACC and ESPN are presumably betting will be well worth the wait.

Urban myth. BC was but one of many that didn't want UConn. The football block (FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech, NC State, Virginia Tech, Miami) was squarely against their addition and they were where the power has been centered in the ACC since 2003. It is also why UConn had no chance over Louisville in 2012 despite all the self-proclaimed experts thinking the Huskies were next in line. They weren't, not even close. The 2003, 2011, and 2012 additions were for football. Furthermore, BC is not a power player in the conference and has little influence.

^^This^^

UConn was suggested and discussed, but it was waaaaay more that just BC who objected. Do you really think FSU & Clemson want to go play in a 34,000 seat high school stadium an half hour from their campus? We were a better football candidate than UConn despite our obvious shortcomings.

The whole article is hogwash. It's a UConn fan trying to concoct this far fetched scenario, in order to have a positive outcome for UConn...

Even if ND does decide to be a full member, they're going to bring UConn with them????? What??? Why???? Did I miss something??? There is no history or relevance between the two schools... NONE.

This lunacy of the ACC wanting UConn instead of Pittsburgh is more bull$hit

BC didn't and doesn't have that kind of leverage. What would UConn bring? TV Market??? If the ACC wanted a big TV market, they could have chosen Rutgers before The Big Ten swooped in or Louisville.

Their football team? If they wanted a good football team, they could have taken WVU or Louisville.

Basketball? The blue blood basketball schools in the ACC despised UConn. They openly accused UConn of being crooked.

Pure fantasy... if the ACC chooses another school in addition to ND, it won't be UConn...
