I saw Rahm's comments yesterday. My first thought was that he was proposing a Republican-lite version for Dems. That may bring some of the new Trump voters back but it will lose a lot of their current voters. Those they gained through identity politics - LGBT, trans, people of color, etc. - won't totally leave the coalition but many will leave to vote with more extreme parties.
The negotiations haven't even started. The meeting in Saudi Arabia was to explore whether Russia had an interest in further negotiations. Nothing more. Nothing less.
