OK, did anyone think Narduzzi was this good?

Today and last week was clear and convincing evidence that coaching does matter greatly. This defense that looked like a sieve last year, with pretty much the same players is among the top defenses in the country... almost overnight.

This was fun to watch today. I mean, on offense literally all we have is Boyd and a bunch of very young running backs, but we are still winning games simply by crushing it on defense.

GREAT GAME... damn it feels good to be a Panther

Did you watch the Pitt interviews after the game??? Key word all the players were harping on was ENERGY. Chryst had none and it showed on the field. Narduzzi has already changed the attitude of the team.

This was the first time in years that I felt confident when Pitt had to punt the ball in the 4th quarter of a close game.

He's Italian. Of course he's that good! :)

I personally will say no, I thought we wouldn't see a difference this year at all. I mean our defense looked pathetic at the end of last year.

I am 100% on board now. Dominant performance. Pitt doesn't do that. Also, please leave Ollison in. He is the best back. Even Conner fumbled.

Keep in mind that VT is generally clunky on offense, but the best part is that the Pitt defense will be even better when we get Coach Duzzi recruits on the field. And

And what defensive recruit would not want to play on this offense. The key word is "aggressive." Got to love it - even when we give up the inevitable big play, keep coming with the pressure.

PS: On offense we also have Holtz and Orndoff -- and we need to use them more.

Go Pitt.

The future 412 was tweeting all game about how awesome Narduzzi is and how improved we looked. Something special is brewing

I think we will have one hell of a defense for years to come. I agree, the recruits will HAVE to come... I mean, ask our D today, I bet they were having so much fun. We imposed our will on Vtech today, and the blitzing and hitting has been ample.

7 sacks today! In two years of a Matt House led defense I don't know if we had 7 sacks that entire time. Night and day the difference between last year's defense and this year's. This is how you build a winning program.

To be fair he and his staff are just getting started. the great thing about how this defense played is it's got to impress the uber talented recruits we are trying to get in here. Damar and Zack and Kaezon and LaMont and the rest of you guys take note. You guys don't have to go far to be with a winner.

I did... I have been a HUGE FAN of Narduzzi from day 1. It wasn't just some gut feeling. It was seeing that he was the first coach in a long time for Pitt that gives a s$&t about the little details and it was seeing him talk about the specific little mistakes being made and how they needed to be fixed. Don't let anyone tell you excellence isn't in the details.

Narduzzi is a perfectionist. He has raised the expectations for his players. He demands excellence. And he shows exactly how with little technique changes and a belief that you can be great if you just give everything you have, you can be a much better football team.

Chryst was hardly a perfectionist. He was the king of vagueness. "We need to clean up some things"

Wannstedt was not anywhere near a perfectionist. He was just clueless. "We just need to find a way to play better"

Every Pitt fan has to feel pretty darn good today. Pitt might prove to have the best defense in the ACC. That means we have a real chance to win the Coastal this year.

Yet, I will say. I was not sold on Chaney from day 1 and he has not done much to change my thinking. Too many times his play calling has stalled the momentum of the offense.

The defense was too good and gave the ball back to the offense with great field position way too many times today for Pitt to only have 17 points. If he and the rest of the offense staff can get a little better... Look out.

Hugh, I said on the Lair after the Iowa game that these kids would pick up on Coach Narduzzis enthusiasm. They are having fun and enjoying their successes. The man is really, really into the team and the kids really are feeding off of his demeanor. Hail To Pitt!!

Could not agree more. If you weren't thrilled about this hiring, you don't watch much college football other than Pitt (not that there's anything wrong with that.) I watch a whole lot of college football though. Pitt football and basketball just comes before anything else.
As much as I watch college footballl I remember the Michigan-Ohio State game in '06. Dubbed as the biggest game in recent history, #1 vs. #2. Well the same day, Pitt hoops played some small non-conference tourney at the Pete. I caught some key plays in that game, but my focus was on the hoops game.

H2P!!

I knew he was this good but didn't think he would have this quick of an impact

Well for the record I knew he was this good too, but even through my Pitt colored glasses I didn't think the D would be playing like this. I mean this was like the steel curtain defense.

By the way, who made the 3rd INT?? The announcers never said

Yep it was a caprara, he had a int and a sack
What was impressive was that it wasn't just one player making plays - like Aaron Donald did. This was every player on the defense making plays. Been a long, long time since we've seen contributions from every player on defense...

That's what should impress defensive recruits - no matter what position you play, you can make plays in this Pitt defense.

Alleghenee, genac, genac, genac!!

Go Pitt.

I remember you saying those things and you were and are correct sir! So did NC Panther and UPitt89 and all changed my mind when I was advocating Rudolph and educated me on why Narduzzi was the Best fit for Pitt and won't forget it!

Narduzzi is a perfectionist. He has raised the expectations for his players. He demands excellence. And he shows exactly how with little technique changes and a belief that you can be great if you just give everything you have, you can be a much better football team.
Again you are spot on, look what Coach Pat had to say after every game, that all Players can and will get better! Does it with confidence, conviction, and commitment to excellence!

Chryst was hardly a perfectionist. He was the king of vagueness. "We need to clean up some things"
"Duh," "You Know," "I Am The Special Team Coach!", "It Is On Me!" In effect, I don't need any Stinking Special Teams Coach! "I love Wisconsin", and goodbye Pitt with not much of a grateful comment how Pitt gave him a chance to become a Head Coach when many interviewed him and rejected him. Another Pederson's Poison Pill for Pitt Football, had Graham not left the way he did, Chryst would not have been here. Alvarez had the same problems with Bielema and Andersen and he can now have Chryst of his own making!?

Chryst often let down his Players with his bad calls and poor Special Teams after Offense and Defense Players played their Hearts out! Duke, UNC, Miami, Houston, count 2 to 3 Losses every year due to poor Special Teams! Chryst was learning and is still learning but now on Wisky's dime?

Wannstedt was not anywhere near a perfectionist. He was just clueless. "We just need to find a way to play better"
Coach Dave knew much about the Game of Football but had real trouble adjusting to Head Coaching and only coaching NCAA regulated 17 Hours a week to prepare his Players for the Games. Dave's Game Plans were not terrific and his Half-Time Adjustments were mostly inconsistent or non-existent? He did rebuild Recruiting with High School Coaches and Parents that Chryst often ignored knowing he was not staying at Pitt! This did great damage at places like Aliquippa, Eastern Side of the State, New Jersey and Virginia.

Every Pitt fan has to feel pretty darn good today. Pitt might prove to have the best defense in the ACC. That means we have a real chance to win the Coastal this year.
Right again, when you check out how in less than 8 months the Pitt Players Attitude and Affection for this Head Coach and how Coach Pat Staff have been selected and are coaching for and with him, it is remarkable. Jim Tressel said, Pitt finally found their Coach!

Yet, I will say. I was not sold on Chaney from day 1 and he has not done much to change my thinking. Too many times his play calling has stalled the momentum of the offense.
Agree, 2 years at UTenn then gone, 2 Years at Arkansas and gone? He has had to deal with injuries, but he did inherit a pretty good Offensive Unit minus some experience Wideouts, but he has 2 Terrific Tight Ends, 2 Good Experience QBs with different talents and skills, and the Defense is giving them great positions on the Field!

The defense was too good and gave the ball back to the offense with great field position way too many times today for Pitt to only have 17 points. If he and the rest of the offense staff can get a little better... Look out.
Ditto & Great Post!

I hear what you're saying about Chaney but I think we need give the guy a real for now. We don't have a great offense and we did win. Iowa , the offense looked better. But the Vtech game was indeed awful

The thing is, TD, the fan base is thrilled today with where Narduzzi has taken the team so quickly, despite the fact that it was a narrow win yesterday and the offense didn't look very good. Its because the D was dominant yesterday, something we haven't seen in forever here.

The offense will likely improve. Eventually it will stop raining.

We're not going to win every game the rest of the way; there will be disappointments. But its absolutely clear that Narduzzi has this team playing with a different energy, with a winning attitude. And they are well coached - on the fundamentals of D and in knowing their responsibilities. The Houston 4th quarter disaster last year was largely due to blown assignments due to general confusion. There is none of that now. I can't remember a single blown assignment yesterday. Its not only not frustrating watching this D, as it often was last year, but its inspiring. I jumped to my feet several times during the game yesterday. That never happened last year when Pitt was on D.

TD, our defense is 2nd in NCAA in sacks, 4th in total yards, and 4th against the run. I know they might not be Dominator Franklin levels, but you have to admit Narduzzi is doing a few things well

I don't care who we were playing. We never, ever, ever win games that close. Yesterday was the making of a typical Pitt loss. But, Narduzzi's defense shut the door. For that, we should be excited.
