Olivier Nkamhoua

Really like this kid’s skillset as a stretch 4.

He seems like he’s got a similar build/game to Kene but as a four year player; while I know we probably won’t get any hard information at this point, but could Kene’s back and hip issues potentially lead to a medical hardship?

Kene will have/should be graduating by August. Why would Pitt give him a medical hardship to attend grad school here? If he wants to get school paid for next year, he's gotta play here or somewhere else as a grad transfer. I am sure NEC level teams would be interested.

As for this Finnish kid, he reminds me of the type of lower-rated kid that Beilein gets at Michigan. The long, rangy types who can shoot? 3 years later, you wonder why nobody recruited them.

There’s nothing I see that indicates that Kene is close to graduating. He’s a true junior, and spent a year at a junior college. Potential credit transfer issues from the JUCO to Pitt aside, he’ll only have been in college for three years by the time August rolls around, no matter how good of a student he appears to be.

Foot injury probably set his recruitment back.
He was a Pg originally but grew.
He definitely looks smooth.

He would have had to earn an associate's degree from the JUCO meaning he only needed 60 more credit at Pitt. He will be at Pitt for 6 semesters ending in August which is plenty of time to graduate and then transfer out if he wants another free year of school. Or just keep him. Pitt isnt going to pay for him not to play next year.

Look harder ;) He was a sophomore when he came to Pitt — he’s a senior now

I have to believe Pitt will do the best thing for Kene. We do not know for certain if his surgery will fix his health problems so that he can play at Pitt or elsewhere next season. If he hasn't graduated and is not healthy I have to believe he will be given a medical hardship ship for next season. It would not only be the right thing to do--it makes good PR and doesn't give opposing coaches a negative to use against you in recruiting.

As far as ships available to give--medical hardship ones do not count against the 13 ship limit; so, that would not be an issue.

Nice to get the first visit. However, the down side of first visits is that the impression tends to fade as other schools get the subsequent visits. It often can be be better to get the last visit, IMHO.
More of an even ball field don't you think? These visits are all after the season and all gyms are empty. Comes down to the coach and staff I think.

You people kill me with these medical hardships. Just like I was right about Uchebo. It is extremely unlikely that Kene's hip problem is career-ending. If he wants to go to school for free next year, he will have to play for Pitt or transfer to an NEC or D2 school. I like the kid. I think he is a hard worker but if the kid can play at all for Clarion, then we should not be paying for him to not play.
What side of the bed did you wake upon . A kid injures himself and continues to play through the pain . The injury requires surgery and you want Pitt to kick him out if he’s not ready to play ?
Ps .. great recruiting PR ..get hurt at Pitt and they dump your ass !

If the injury is truly career-ending, which it isn't, and he hasn't graduated, then yes he should get a medical hardship

I’m with ya.

The financial cost to let him continue his education at Pitt is minimal in the grand scheme of things. If he’s medically fit then none of this will even matter. But if it’s marginal and he wants to continue his education and not play here they should let him. Period.

If its marginal, he would be a nice asset for a PSAC school. I like Kene but this isnt a charity. It's big business

I said this in the thread about him a few weeks ago. He looks a lot like Cam Johnson besides also being extremely under recruited.

Other than Pitt he's added offers most recently from the Vols, Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, and Wake Forest. When you watch his film of when he’s healthy, it’s easy to see why coaches like him.

Not only is the 6-foot-8 power forward agile and athletic, but he has an array of offensive tools. He can slash to the basket, use post moves, and drain shots from three. Despite not being the largest player in terms of weight, he does a great job of rebounding and finding ways to get the basketball. He’s also a solid ball-handler and can bring the ball up the court. He’s not going to be able to bang down low a ton with some bigger players but he doesn’t need to; that’s not his game. I like the film on this kid a lot. He looks more like a top 120 kid than his actual ranking.

So is Maryland our main competition?
Or is there others out there?

Wow. You play the SJW card consistently, you want to pay players and yet you want to kick a seemingly hardworking kid out of Pitt if he's injured this offseason and has to sit next year, qualifying for another season? Doesn't seem consistent.

Just curious where you found all this info on him. I watched highlight tapes of his games and saw Ryan Luther. Nothing jumped out st me about his athletic ability or quickness. I see him as a 200-250 type player matching his 3 star ranking and offers. And he is coming off a leg injury.

By watching Bishop Walsh Spartans basketball games.

Here's an early game that will give a good idea of his all around game.

Agree, he would be one of the better forward prospects the program has seen in a while.

Have to like bigger guys who were once guards as they often (usually?) have better ball skills than guys who were always trained as bigs to play close to the hoop. Not talking about a "Zion" here but, Zion is the quintessential example of what is possible when a former guard grows into a big forward.

From what I've heard, Tennessee doesn't expect any of their seniors to return, and Vescovi is the only one they would openly welcome back, but they expect him to play professionally somewhere next year.

Nkamhoua usually isn't the player you saw in the Duke game. He's not a guy you can count on.
