What do you think? Some kind of politically charged post? Nope.

It means simply I am grilling out a killer porterhouse and hanging on the deck with shorts and various Christmas beers.

It means it will probably be 10 degrees at the bowl game. I wish the 65 degrees was THAT week.

And looking at your green grass which is even weirder right now. I have perennials trying to pop through.
We hang on our deck almost 365 days/year with the right heating elements. It's the only place Mr. Pitt-girl can smoke his cigars. ;)

Yeah got this big assed Porterhouse a few weeks back from some farm market. Some GL Christmas Ale, Santa's Private Reserve, maybe some red wine, and a Michter's #1 Bourbon looks like my Saturday late PM into early evening. I mean, likely I would grill out anywas in Dec, but to do it in shorts and having neighbors over for beers on the deck is like being back in South Carolina.

The whole shorts thing? Let's not go crazy here, Recruits. It still is mighty cold/cool in the evenings.
True story - I remember the night of the Pitt/Duke hoops game in MSG (December 2008?). It was also a very mild December night like now and we had an impromptu deck party with some friends (and more who showed up in the 2nd half when it got interesting) and a few of us did some laps around the neighborhood after we won in OT. Good times.

I used to live in one of those types of neighborhoods too. Fun times. Every Friday night was a party somewhere.

I still live in that neighborhood but unfortunately it has changed a LOT in recent years.

There were a few arguments (mostly over kids), at least one booze-fueled fistfight over music, and one REALLY UGLY divorce that I'm pretty sure involved a neighborhood love triangle. That last one caused all sorts of odd divisions.

Those idiots ruined what had been a good thing for everyone. Now, people barely say hello to each other.

Sad.

For the record, I wasn't involved in any of the disputes. I stay the hell out of that mess. It's far too personal and the stakes are way too high.

Dr. - said friends weren't really neighbors. I've found neighbors are best enjoyed at a distance. Eliminates some of the drama you referenced. Just food for thought.

Not a bad plan. We're actually headed to the shore. I have a wetsuit so it'll probably the surf I get in in 2015. Water should be in the low 60s. I'm Christmas beer-ed out though. Didn't get any last year either. Same w/ the pumpkin beers. 12 pack of Southern Tier IPA variety pack should do.

People who like the change of seasons are nuts. I wish it was 90 degrees everyday but I'll take 65 in Dec all day.

Some friends and I are doing our Christmas Sunday since that is the only day all of us can get together. I was gonna do a prime rib roast in the oven, but with the forecast, the menu has changed. Grilling some nice Delmonico's for the adults, hamburgers for the kids.

Our 'hood used to be Party Central. Everybody knew everyone else because the kids were just little. Now the kids are off building their own lives, and we're too old to rock. Quite a few moved on to McMansions. Been a great 25 years, though. We had some drama, but nothing real bad. I'll light the grill for ribeyes, knock out my last Sculpin, end with some Mac12. Shorts?? Maybe.

Breaking out the lawnmower because I'm too lazy to rake. Was in Indiana last couple days and drink some of the Christmas beers from the local Indiana breweries. Good but damn if two or three of those don't completely fill you up

My wife and I are going to the beach in NJ complete with the beach umbrella, beach chairs, beach cart, towels, suntan lotion, margaritas and Landsharks.
We were there late in Oct, Thanksgiving day, and this weekend.
We'll sit on the beach, enjoy the nice weather Sat. & Sunday, empty the cooler ( ho,ho,ho), hit the casinos at night and do some surf fishings ( catch n release ) with my new waders. Early Christmas present since my old ones bit the dust 2 week ago.
We might catch a glimpse of a humpback whale since their on the tail end of their migration to warmer waters for the winter. A few whales were spotted by beachbums in November off the NJ coast.
I remember a November & December like this in the early 80's we took our sailboat out from a NJ marina 6 times in Nov. & Dec.
Beware of Jan, Feb, March and early April since Old Man Winter will probably kick out butts!

That's why i refuse to live in developments....I need some space between me and the next house over...not that I am not a friendly guy, I am, but you can get sucked into stupid drama quickly

What's cool in my development is....it is really new. I am not even on the GPS. There are two houses on my street which is only extended currently where 4 houses can be, and the street behind me has the same situation. I am a corner lot and road on my side, none of the lots yet are sold so they are still woods/fields.

So I sorta got the best of both worlds. Another section in the development below me is almost full, and above me is getting more developed. But there are woods and fields all around me which brings lotsa wildlife and quiet. But also close enough that anyone walking the dog or out can stop by for a beer.

Oh I can definitely deal with that situation....

Developments are interesting places.
We live in a development with 1/2 - 1 acre lots so you have some space but exactly what the Dr mentioned took place and caused about 4 divorces.
There were some wealthy older divorced single guys who convinced some of the 40-50 yr old married guys in the development to join them on their party circuit leaving the wives at home on weekends and other nights.
One by one they got divorced leaving their wives behind in the house. So with a lot of single women in the development things got dicey for a while. Finally a whole bunch of them moved and we're back to normal until the next cycle of debacery takes place.
My wife and I were just interested onlookers.
Developments are interesting places.

Hopefully this is a fairly long term blast of decent weather. All I know is one day like this is one day winter isn't blowing up your you know what. Especially up here in the Laurel Highlands region. Enjoy it. It ain't gonna last forever.

I'm going out with shorts on right now. Pretend it is summer as long as you can.

High of 10F in Annapolis on one day in Dec in 1983 -- outlier. High temp 13C the past two years and rarely worse than perfect football weather. In 2008 high reached 22C, year Obama elected. Coincidence? Probably, but I blame him anyway.

1983. It was 13 below zero on Cristmas Eve in Windber. I remember another Christmas Eve when it was above 60 and sunny. You never know.

We're like you - we live in a neighborhood, not a development. Very old section of the North Hills and we have a little shy of 2 acres. We love it. Private lane to boot so no traffic whatsoever.

I remember that. I forget which was it was, but one year (either 82 or 84) it was over 60 degrees and was playing basketball outside the next year was absolutely brutally cold.

Yeah, my wife and I were never directly involved in too much of the drama and certainly none of the salacious stuff.

However, because of the nature of these types of neighborhoods, once divisions start to form, you are impacted by them whether you like it or not. It is really weird and tense here these days. And the worst part about it is you don't really know who is aligned with whom or exactly what these fights are all about? You just know that what was once a very happy place is no longer so and that is just too bad.

We always had the neighbors before friends rule for precisely this reason.

These people all went away on vacations together and ski trips to Seven Springs and all the rest of it. It was great for them… Until it wasn't.

We didn't do any of those things despite the fact that we were repeatedly invited. However, we declined primarily because I have a big mouth and I would definitely offend someone at some point - especially some of these thin-skinned goofballs.

Oh well, I guess that's just how it goes. It really is a shame but unfortunately often times people suck.
