There were supposed to be additional words to replace the "I knows", but there were never added. When he would practice it, he added the "I knows" to keep the song going, expecting to have words before it got recorded. The words never came, so he recorded it as is.

I saw him at Pitt when I was an undergrad....maybe 1973/4...Can't remember in which hall but I can picture it...I remember because we were probably in the 10th row. Always looked fondly back at that night...think I might have gotten lucky too!
