I only named the thread in that manner because undoubtedly spoilers will appear as this thread gets going.
So what do you guys think? I thought it was a fun 2 hours at the theater. I started laughing at the opening credits and laughed throughout even though plenty of jokes missed their mark. Deadpool’s crude and vulgar humor and gratuitous drops of F bombs was never my thing but that’s what you get with this IP and the movies have been smart notwithstanding. And if you like blood, there’s lots of it.
It’s not deep, and it appears to me that it’s pretty much a self contained 2 hours of fan service. I was never a fan of the X-Men stuff, never saw any of them, not even the wolverine stuff, but I think if I was a fan of them I would have geeked out several times…But even though I’m not, I was never really lost while watching. But there’s so many cameos and infinite amounts of fan service, I’m pretty sure everyone will leave the theater happy. And here’s the thing, I think some people are turned off by Marvel because they feel they have to watch all the movies and all the shows in order to keep watching to know what’s going on. And with this film, while seeing all the movies is helpful, I don’t think it’s imperative. And it remains to be seen but I don’t think this film will have a bearing on future movies either. So it’s not like 10 year olds have to see it, which I wonder if that’s what they were going for given this is an R rated film with a hard R.
So I’ll leave it there to get the discussion going.
Oh one more thing…the chemistry between Reynolds and Jackman is worth the price of admission alone.
I’d rate it a 7 out of 10.
