They knew that Boras doesn't let his clients sign extensions. All things considered, the front office did a decent job this year. The pitching staff is set up to be a strength for the next few years. A winning season was not expected. The arrow is pointing up, but another bat is needed.

Starting rotation could use an upgraded arm, fot the backend, the bullpen is mostly set, the outfield is mostly set- should extend Dickerson, imo, catcher is set, Bell needs to bounce back.

They have nothing but question marks at 2nd, SS and 3rd. Adding a bat to 1 of those positions gets them in the wildcard picture again. Add 2 bats has them competitive in the central.

Considering this was a retooling year, finishing over .500 is a pretty good result.

Another bat? Assuming they lose Harrison and Mercer, the two guys competing for Mercer’s job both hit under .200 after being called up. And, both are at best average defensively. If Adam Frazier becomes the full time 2B, then you have a hole in the OF. Even if they sign Dickerson, they have no depth there.

There are lots of question marks with this team: Will Josh Bell bounce back? Has Polanco turned the corner? Can Cervelli repeat what was for him his best offensive year ever? Where are they going to get a bench from?

They need a lot more than one more bat.

Polanco and Marte can't be counted on the lead this team to a championship. As the saying goes, "You can't fix stupid!"
