OT: Great Britian vs Sweden in world soccer tournament

It's an interesting system. 2 rounds. So you get to signal your displeasure with the 1st round and then everyone comes to their senses and rejects the right when actual consequences are on the line.

I'm pretty sure that if the UK and USA had that system, there would have been no Brexit and no Trump.

Not familiar with the French election process but what you see a lot in Europe is that there's like a million different legitimate parties not just 2 like the US. So all of the left-wing parties in France united and formed a new party and won. Interestingly, there was still a party called the French Communist Party that went in on this though that's a pretty insignificant party.

Wished these countries would govern down the middle. Everyone wants to be either extreme-right or extreme-left.

Pretty sure they are in the Olympics?
I meant soccer. But "Great Britain" itself is really the island that contains England, Scotland and Wales. And all 3 have individual sides (like the vernacular?) in international tournaments, correct??

And I'm jealous that the UK can send 4 teams (if you include Northern Ireland) to these tournaments. I'd like to see USA Basketball send individual states to tournaments so California, New York, and Texas can win Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

Yeah. I know. You just had me thinking that in the Olympics and in their soccer within, they’re GBR. Which can make a difference on the mens side because they pull from Scotland and Wales. But no one really cares about the men’s soccer in the Olympics. Now on the womens side it’s different because they emphasize olympic soccer as a major trophy and Scotland has some very talented women that can form a pretty good team with The England players. It’s funny because the Brits and Scot fans generally hate each other more that Pitt and Nitters do.

Moreso than the Irish and Brits?

Yes. Within the soccer community because Ireland is mostly irrelevant in the sport.

Ireland has been better than Scotland over the last few decades but no one has harder core fans than Scotland. I read that their Scottish Premier League has the highest domestic ratings in the world and its a crap league. More Scots watch the SPL on average than English watch the EPL which is crazy.

Great Britain doesn't enter a soccer team in Olympic qualifying because the English and Scotland FA's dont allow it. They did put a team in 2012 when they hosted but that was only after a long, drawn out discussion and negotiation.

There's a Scottish Premiere League? Wow. I would have thought like Edinburg and Glasgow would be part of the EPL, like Canadian teams in MLB, NBA and NHL.

Yea. There's 2 pretty famous clubs in Glasgow called Rangers and Celtic and its probably the most intense rivalry of any sport in the world. Its more than football. Rangers fans are Protestants, pro-England. Celtic fans are Catholics, mostly of Irish descent, very anti-England. Going to a Rangers/Celtic match is definitely on the bucket list. Those are the only 2 decent teams though. Then you have some nothing teams with incredible names: Hearts, Motherwell, Midlothian, Hibernian.

We have a fairly large Celtic supporters group here in Pittsburgh that meets at Cork Harbor in Lawrenceville. I get people being down on the non derby games but the Celtic Rangers games are pretty intense. People should stop by and check it out sometime.
