This should be the slogan of all Pirates fans the rest of the season.

I f Nutting chooses to put an embarrassing team on the field.....i hope the fans try to embarrass Nutting off the field as well.

Pirate fans are dumber than Pitt fans. They’ll keep showing up saying they are diehards no matter what and talk about how it’s a great place to spend with the family. Neither has any desire to demand a winner and go complete boycott until they get what they want. Because of that, they get what they deserve.

The Shady Grove Metro Station is about a 2 1/2 hour drive for me. All day parking is $2 on the weekends. Round trip fare to Nationals Park on the Metro is $7.40
I worked right down the street from the Shady Grove metro for app 3 years.

Best I could do as far as time was exactly 2 1/2 hours but that was from Frederick exit to the turnpike exit. 60 minutes on 70 to breezewood and 90 minutes on PA turnpike. that's flying though, no traffic, 80mph the whole way..

Well I am at least following the Tribe.

Nutting will be giving away players here soon.

The sad part is I really do desire to follow the Indians now, MLB is a bad habit some of us have. We used to move the radio out to the middle of the yard after dark down home in South Carolina, we could get St. Louis and Pittsburgh most nights, listing to Bob Prince was a hoot in 1966.....oh the good old days.

You forget. Nutting comes from our neighbors to the south where “embarrassing” HELPS sell tickets.

Going to Cleveland? I suggest booking passage on the Steamer.

Better to take the money and buy Pitt men’s and women’s soccer tickets. They’re offering nice and affordable flex plans for both teams.

No pa gambling in pa without venues like pnc and Heinz. They’d be stupid to not ask for a cut.

The PA Gov and the rest of the PA idiot politicians are going to tax this out of existence before it even goes into place.
Good discussion on The FAN this morning....

Another revenue stream for wasteless spending. Tom wolf already has multiple ideas on how to piss this away with little of anything of substance to show in return.

When did it become fashionable to root for more government income?

The idea of let people do whatever they want, just tax it; is weird.

it is? Why? tax on alcohol, tobacco, gambling, marijuana, prescription pills, that's a multi billion dollar revenue stream. That's weird to you?

Should we just outlaw it all, go back to prohibition and let it go unchecked and unregulated?

I'm not getting into debating taxes but if there is tax money to be distributed, the Pirates aren't where I want to see it going.

that's a fair point. I said that they have a right to ask for a percentage of that, a valid argument. I didnt' say that they deserve it, I said they have a valid argument.

Also, im assuming the money would go to the SEA earmarked for Heinz and PNC facility improvements and not to Nutting at all.

Lyke is in favor of Pitt getting a cut for added compliance measures. (see Tulane and "Hot Rod" Williams).
hey, in all seriousness, if you can now legally gamble on college athletics, the schools should get a cut of that. If it makes sense for professional teams, it makes the same sense for college teams.

I think gambling definitely adds a level of complexity to handling athletes who aren't getting paid. It's a legit reason to ask for a cut.
if ncaa allows players to get paid, pitt football and hoops will cease to exist within 12 months of that ruling. be careful what you wish for.

For sure, you are correct. My gripe with the Pirates isn't a new one... they had what any team would have hoped for... attendance from a rabid fan base and success. And they pissed it all away. And now they shall rightfully suffer for it when attendance struggles to stay above league minimums. And then they will use that as an excuse as to why they don't put money into decent free agents, etc. .

I guess I'm extra pissed because I'm one of those gullible fans who bought their "bridge year" garbage after the last WC run.

Why does the government get a piece of everything?

Agree, Costa and the D clowns can stick their 36% tax up their ass. Other states are at 10%. This isn’t like their insane tax on gas, gamblers will gamble in ohio and wv. Juse like i’ll drive across the border to get my fireworks and save 12%.

Apparently Heather Lyke doesn’t get it either, with this impact fee stuff.

Sportsbooks do not make a lot of money and the margins are very small, historically between 4-5%. They are in casinos primarily to generate excitement and hopefully to encourage people to stay and spend money on the machines, dining, and shopping.

Any sort of integrity fee under any name is ridiculous. Nevada has been the watchdog for the leagues for decades, any time there are betting irregularities Vegas is the one that contacts the leagues and alerts them to the issue. Without Vegas telling them there’s a problem they would have no clue.

The leagues deserve nothing, if it wasn’t for gambling their TV ratings would decline sharply. Why else would anyone keep watching blowouts and meaningless games if it wasn’t for gambling? Mark Cuban is on the right track when he said franchise values will double for everyone as a result of nationwide legal sports gambling. If anything the leagues should be giving the books a cut.

Pennsylvania is quite the laughingstock here. Taxing the books 36% is absurd, and they wonder why no one wants to put a book there. With books only holding their 4-5% if you give the leagues 1% off the top then giving the state 36% of the remaining profits the book may very well lose money after expenses. Especially since a lot of these people have no clue what they’re doing. These horse and lottery people that are involved are already making fools out of themselves.

I am still amazed that no matter how many times these politicians are told that sportsbooks are not a big revenue producer they don’t seem to get it.

i have to agree with the OP. I would much rather plan a whole day, leave early, get in 18 outside of Cleveland, watch a legit team in the throes of a pennant race and cruise home late that night.

that would be a far more enjoyable day than KNOWING im going to watch a team with ownership that doesnt care.

Gassed up in Hilton Head last week @ $2.39. Had another fillup in Wythville Va., @$2.39. Get home to Greensburg, Pa., and it’s $3.09. Good thing our roads and bridges are pristine.....
