First off, the best thing about this thread is that it has nothing to do with Dixon, Stallings or Dixon vs Stallings.

So I’m flying home from Newark today on this small plane and there’s this BB team on the plane all wearing hoodies saying ‘Long Island Basketball’. I’m thinking it’s LIU and wondering if their coming to play Akron, Kent State, Cleveland State or other local school. I ask one of them who they’re heading to play and he says the Canton Charge, the Cavs local NBA G-league team in Canton. So it was the Long Island Nets G-league team and not LIU.

So when in baggage claim I see one of them with a Pitt BB duffel bag. I ask what his connection to Pitt is and he says it isn’t his, it’s one of his teammates who used to play for Pitt. I ask him who that is and he says JJ Moore and points to him across the way. Didn’t realize JJ was playing in the G league but nice to see him toting a Pitt bag with him.

I resisted asking him what he thought of the current state of Pitt BB.

I was going to say this thread is bound to turn into a Dixon-Stallings thread in some way shape or form. Then I read your last line.

I saw Jamie Dixon in the concierge lounge of the Los Angeles Airport Marriott the summer before JJ was to be a freshman with us. I asked him what he thought of Moore and he told me he was going to be a great player for us.

Hmmmmmm.

Do you really think any coach would say anything else lol? Even stallings, if asked about peace would hopefully say that.

JJ Moore has to be one of the best examples of drawing false, early conclusions on talent. It’s sad to consider what might have been if he could’ve figured stuff out at Pitt. If he’d only had a career trajectory more like Lamar…

Yes but Moore was a legit 7th or 8th man that every team needs. We just expected more based on his legendary play at Green Tree.

Most fans at the time thought Moore was gonna be a great player, and he was a great athlete. I don't know if even now you can say he wasn't worth a shot.

Playing hoops requires more than jumping high.

Lamar was always a better player.
