OT: Kessel traded to Coyotes

Not a super return but I'm not sure what their choice was if they were dead set on dealing Phil. This trade is solid if the prospect pans out.

Very colorful player. Good shot. Fun to have when the team is winning. Seems to wear out his welcome pretty quickly everywhere he goes though.

Both sides needed a fresh start. Are there casinos in the Glendale Phoenix area?

I saw on twitter they got there top goalie prospect, but I guess that was wrong

But I agree. This will look good if the d man pans out.

Find a way to deal Johnson. Saw an article advocating packaging him with Rust to Ottawa since they need to reach the salary floor.

Well.........it is actually better return than I would have thought. The Pens were desperate to trade Phil, to get essentially two guys who were #1 picks is not bad.
That's a very pirates like way to analyze a trade. The one guy has been in the league for quite a bit. Where you are drafted doesn't matter at a certain point. It's like listing your college GPA on a resume when you are 45 years old IMO

True. Maybe. But the Pens always spend to the max, and likely will backfill Kessel's contract s no, it is not like the Pirates.

Galchenyuk should fit in quite well on Malkin's line. He is a Russian speaker, 25 years old, 6 - 1 207 pounds, does not have pressure to be the best player on the team, and motivated by entering the end of his contract.

He never played with great talent around him and will probably get more than 50 points next year. He scores a lot of goals within 5 feet of the net but can also shoot well from the outside.

Hopefully the coaching staff can help him to not only play better defensively but also elevate Malkin's game.

No. That was a bad move from the start. Real head scratcher given how good most of his deals have been.

Most of his deals?

They couldn't dress a full team because of a cap crunch in JRs first year, the Reaves trade was bad, the Hornqvist trade is bad, trading Maatta before buying Johnson out is bad, Hagelin trade is bad, trading, etc.

Most of his moves are bad.

He won 2 cups. Hornquist was a great trade. Maybe his contract is a bit bloated but that guy is the heart and soul or the team and is great in his role. Maybe not now as much but when they traded him it was a great deal

He won two cups because Sid and Geno were the heart and soul, along with a rookie goaltender playing lights out.

As for Hornqvist, I meant the extension. The reason JR was fired from Carolina was because he got them in cap hell. He has done the same here.

Also, for all the "chemistry" Phil ruined, JR destroyed the locker room trading Hagelin. He was the glue.

Like most GMs they make good and bad decisions. Craig Patrick did great things and bad ones. But Jim's tenure here has been more good than bad as evidenced by the cups and how he assembled those teams.

The Pens hands were tied. The only issue I have is I wish they would have shut up more. While I appreciate Rutherford's candidness sometimes, he needs to shut up sometimes because he almost paints himself in a corner when he wants to move someone.

JR needs to be less reactive and more calculating. He's too interested in doing things just to do them.

I don't understand people bitching. We could still be floundering around with Ray Shero as GM and have 2 less Stanley Cups. Rutherford may have made some bad trades of late, but, he is right in saying that the team had bad chemistry last season. The job of the head coach is to get the players he is given to play as a team. Sullivan wasn't able to do that. In addition, Sullivan has been very one-dimensional in coaching style, often putting guys in the doghouse because they don't stick to the game plan. He is a rigid pain in the ass coach. He served his purpose winning us two cups.

We should not be jettisoning our good talent to appease him, it makes the team worse. Sullivan needs to go, he is just to burdensome to a franchise. Plus, the Penguins have proven recently to respond very well to a new coach.

Sullivan is the best coach outside bowman and badger bob. He might be rigid to a system but most pro coaches are. He is not the problem

JR also avoids draft choices like they are the plague. Which probably is not a bad thing considering how poorly he has drafted.
