OT: Mylan defending EPI-Pen 400% price increase.....

Leave it to the hoopies. Senator's daughter Heather Bresch and her fake post-grad degree now defending price gouging.

And the place they play in? MYLAN Puskar stadium.

You know that's WVU's Mylan Puskar?

We have 2 for my kid. Would love to get 4-6 to have everywhere but insurance only pays for 2 and we aren't dropping a few G's on out of pocket epi pens so we have to be crazy responsible. Its stressful as heck. I can see the insurance company's point of view. "We'll give you 2 and if you are responsible that's all you'll need." But something like that should cost $100 out of pocket. Its a little unreasonable to ask people to transport an EpiPen every time you leave the house. For example, if you had a 3rd, you could leave one at school or daycare or grandma's. If you had a 4th, you could leave it at their friend's house or wherever else they spend a lot of time.

Ummm - yes. That's why I posted it. And I'm really sorry about your son/daughter. I had a close friend with a child who had multiple serious allergies. It's stressful. All the best to you and Mrs. Sean Miller Fan.

My youngest son works at Mylan in Morgantown and believe me things have changed since Mylan died and not for the better!Mylan Pulsar was a good guy and did great things for Morgantown and the surrounding area but now things aren't so good.N ow it's all about money no matter who might suffer, the way of the world in 2016.

I know a guy who works at the plan that manufacturers the epi . All in with the adrenalin and device it cost about $4 to make each one.

I think it's outrageous how any of these medications get hyper inflated. The fact that drug companies have started "helping" lower income patients manage costs is all you need to know. Charity, you see...

What sucks, I understand her defense. The system as a whole is really screwed up. There are a lot of incentives to hyper inflate because of the way the rules are written.

I've argued before and I will continue to argue that if the vast majority of us had to lay cash down to pay for medicine and medical care, to be reimbursed later, the system would change very quickly. Unfortunately, most people don't really understand what things actually cost.

Sorry, the Hoopies don't like her or the family to be honest. They are not defending her at all, at least the common man.

The Democrats are defending her, and after the way the Democrats destroyed WV, they will be getting the boot one by one, state is slummed down like all other places liberal policies have total control. At least that is changing in WV, only took 50 years

There might be one exception and that is Gilead charging $80,000 for a Cure to Hepatitis. Again I stress Cure. The $80,000 is minimal compared to not curing, transplants, hospitals. It's a miracle in a pill and with it to patients, insurance, patients. I was a shareholder for a long time so I know.

You can get EpiPens and a lot of other medication significantly cheaper from Canadian pharmacies. Many years ago, it was becoming very common to buy drugs from Canadian pharmacies and some border states even had agreements with some pharmacies. My recollection is fuzzy, but I think George W. Bush started a push to end the practice. While technically illegal, you can still do it. The FDA puts out horror stories about Canadian pharmacies, but just like everything else, some are legit and some aren't.

My mother was rejected insurance coverage for a drug that her doctors thought would help her and we started getting it years ago from Canada. Even with insurance coverage it would have cost her over $10,000 a year. From Canada, it costs her well under $1,000/year. It's an extreme example, but savings can be incredible. The savings are for a couple reasons. One is that even name brand drugs are cheaper in every other country in the world. Pretty much every other country has much more regulation on drug prices than the United States does. The other is that other countries, including Canada, don't have as strict patent laws. That allows generic drugs to come to market much sooner.

I believe that even her father didn't defend her.

Moral of the story, GOVERNMENT once again has screwed up something that we all need, medicine, and that's both parties

She makes $20,000,000 a year when you include exercising stock options and salary and bonus. The stock is the key here as Mylan shares have grown 100% over the last 4 years. That is a very nice run up for any stock so share holders love heather

I thought democrats were for the little man ? What a myth, none of them are for the little man. Joe Manchin did defend her moving offshore , and Manchin catches no hell like Romney did. Hmmmmm

That company started in little old Princeton Wv, and has been a few places in the state, then Manchin, the dad, had her move it off shore. I hope they do a full investigation on that company to be honest. What was once started out to truly help people and for the people has turned into a monster money grabbing machine

Exactly. She makes her shareholders a lot of money. That's what's most important to most people. BOTH parties have to realize that there must be more regulation in the pharmaceutical area.

When will people begin to get on the holistic approach to medicine? Companies gouging consumers simply because they can is insane. I started seeing a naturopathic physician 4 years ago and it was the best decision of my life. We changed my diet and I eat more whole, natural and mostly organic foods than ever before and I've never felt and been healthier.

Now be honest, you know damn well all we hear, republicans are the only ones who do this , correct ? I know that's not true and so do you, but the media peddles this narrative to the ignorant.

The way the GOVERMENT screwed up is by not regulating the pharmaceutical industry more, like every other country in the world does. That's why the same drugs cost so much more here than in every other country.

I agree, but you see my point , you keep side stepping it. The Democrats are no better than the Republicans period, they are one party and we the people get screwed as they laugh , I know you get this. As for what you are saying , full agreement

Full disclosure, I had family working for that outfit, when it first started, politics and greed ruined what was a once great company, that was started for all the right reasons.

Maybe if they didn't overpay their employees.

I dont think it is 'employees'... I think just the high board members. This is pretty much akin to a municipality raising the price of water a thousand fold IF no bottle water existed in stores. These people need this medicine to live in case of an exposure to the allergen.

It is all about profit margin increasing each year. Just a sad environment.

The Organic thing is very similar to Mylan and Food. I totally get why people are drawn to it but if you put an Organic or Non-Organic vegetable next to each other, there is zero nutrient difference. It is a way for food producers to extract more money. I personally find eating organic to getting half the food for the money. It's shocking how much food is not organic even though it's label says so. There are similarities to Mylan although a stretch. Take a look at a GMO Apple next to a non-GMO Apple pr any vegetable) and a human would choose the GMO because it is much larger with better taste, half priced and equal if not better nutrition.

I don't want to get off the Mylan thing but food producers and even local farmers know what people will pay significantly more for with no scientific evidence otherwise.

This is actually a bit different. The drug in the pens is generic--has been out of patent protection for years. Anyone in the world can basically make and sell the drug--it is incredibly cheap. What Mylan has is an easy system of delivering the drug. Anyone can make a competing "pen" to deliver the drug. Quite a few competitors have tried...and either their product was not as good, or they have been hung up with FDA approvals. Mylan is just doing what the system was set up to do...exploit a competitive advantage. I do not blame Mylan for doing what it is doing. Plenty of other drug companies do exactly the very same thing. This just has hit social media and captured people's attention because the device is so widely used. But nobody is being denied the drug--there are tons of options here. The companies that have patent protection for their drugs--that is where consumers have no options. Tough situation, but this is what our American marketplace was designed to do. Hail to Pitt!

My son has allergies. He doesn't self administer it yet. So we have to leave a set in school for him in the nurses office with an allergy action plan. We generally buy two boxes at time at the beginning of the school year. We used to have to get three sets to leave another at after school day care. It used to get expensive but if you google it, Mylan also has a coupon that eliminates the co-pay. I just got three 2-packs, paying no money out of pocket.

I don't know, I had a friend that works there. He never graduated from high school and was dishonorably discharged from the military. He is a tablet press operator and gets paid over $50,000 a year. Plus he gets $1,000 bonus every Christmas. That was ten years ago, and yes, he showed me his paycheck and bonus. I don't know what his benefits were like or any of that, but all the above seems much for what he does. I have heard of others making close to the same that are low on the totem pole. If he makes that much at his level, how much DO the upper level people make?

What else is new. Unmitigated corporate greed is rampant under our capitalistic system. Wouldn't this be a better country if those money grubbers at the top decided they could live on a little less. This phony ass chick makes 18 million dollars a year.

And there are politicians out there who say Wall Street is OVER regulated. Even after what happened in '08.

Manchin didn't run for President. But I get your point. Politicians in general, not all but enough, answer to big money and do their bidding.

She makes big buck$ because her Board has rewarded her for guiding the company to mega profits and success over her time at the helm. The shareholders of this publicly traded company also have been rewarded by her vision for the company. This is the same in every business...professional athletes make more when they deliver, coaches make more when they deliver, as do sales people and others whose compensation is based upon performance in the free marketplace. If you want a place where the government regulates how much you can make, there are options, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.... Hail to Pitt!

I guess my point is gouging the people to achieve this profit doesn't sit well with me. Can they charge a fair price for this product and maybe make a little less for the CEO and shareholders? Sure they can but I won't hold my breath.

Exxon will make 8 cents on a gallon of gasoline while the government charges 55 cents. Government is the reason energy is expensive not corporations. Air travel is even worse. Last year on a trip to Europe, the taxes were more than American Airlines charged. It's not all big bad Corporations.
