That doesn't really fit your typical genres you listen to but you just really like? It could be just the band's greatest hits or something like that.

For me?

Depeche Mode

I saw them live in 1993 at the Spectrum in Philly. I didn't really consider myself a fan of them but I tagged along with some friends and it was pretty awesome show. I've liked them ever since.

Lucero - a bit country fried

Duran Duran is probably the other
I’ve always had a soft spot for Spice Girls and Britney Spears

Franz Ferdinand, The Violent Fems, Focus (Hocus Pocus), Burt Bacharach.
Used to play Hocus Pocus by Focus on different rpm's on my record player . You should try it ... Great song no matter what speed but definitely interesting .. Hey my friend in high school suggested it and he was a heavy weed smoker so ...

Well they are a pretty good act to like. I can see that. And they have quite an extensive library.

You posed a good question and I couldn’t come up with an answer off the top of my head, so I went to my Apple Music to see which artists I had the most downloads for. As I scrolled through I realized that I don’t have a dominant genre. A lot of 80’s/90’s new wave and alternative rock heavy and a lot of EDM and more so downbeat EDM. If I put it on shuffle, I could have the Cure or New Order play, followed immediately by a song by Kiss or Van Halen, then Zach Brown Band or Kenny Chesney, then Odesza or Two Lanes, Mac Miller or Beastie Boys, Lord Huron or Cannons, Armin Van Buuren or Aviici, Roger Troutman or Keith Sweat, and then the Hip Abduction or Stick Figure. It’s all over the place. My life is full of musical phases so my music collection reflects that.

So I’d have to say The Bee Gees. I probably have a dozen songs downloaded going back to stuff they recorded in the 60’s. They were incredibly talented. I never saw them live as I was a little boy in their hay day. But I have seen them on PBS or a documentary lol.

You guys nailed some good ones. Bee Gees. Depeche Mode, hell even Chic.

I'll go with one group I have really grown to appreciate even though I always hated this genre.

Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I dont listen to jazz or blues but I love Gary Clark Jr. Is he rock? Is he blues? Is he both? Not sure but as someone that usually listens to 90s rock he fits outside my normal listening.

Deftones also a band i enjoy but I don't listen to a ton of metal.

I absolutely hated sweet home Alabama and Freebird for decades. I thought freebird was the most cliched and overplayed song in history. Well Freebird was, along with Stairway to Heaven.

And those two songs are what paved the way for new wave and alternative. In the early 80’s, FM radio was dominated by radio stations that played those two songs in rotation a couple times per hour, hour after hour, every day, so WLIR on Long Island dared to be different and started playing imports from bands like the Cure, New Order, Duran Duran, The Clash, etc…. No one had ever heard of this stuff but then a new era in music started.

Now I am finding myself appreciating Skynyrd. Still not on any of my playlists, although I think Tuesday’s Gone is, but I’m growing to appreciate them. Didn’t this recent USA hockey team adopt Freebird as their song?

It should be their thing going forward. Create a tradition that carries for the next 50 years.

I hate renegade for the Steelers. Just awful bad. They should have stuck with the Pennsylvania Polka 70’s theme. Would be great tradition today if they had.

My Chelsea FC plays One Step Beyond by Madness after every win and their intro/entrance music is Liquidator by Harry JC’s All-Stars which is like 1969 reggae/Ska, which is an instrumental but the crowd through the years have added “we hate Tottenham” as words. These songs are part of the team/club DNA after decades of use. Man City uses Blue Moon and wonderwall by Oasis. All clubs have these songs that are part of the experience and game day atmosphere. People come to the games just to sing the songs they associate with the teams. Could you imagine 18000 people in an nhl arena singing freebird? That would be great.

And we have Sweet Caroline. Lol. Would love to have something original to call our own.

The thing about Renegade, it was organic. I was at the game where it started. It was their amazing comeback against the Browns in like 2002 playoffs (pre Ben) and after the Steelers went ahead they played it and Heinz Field just erupted with towels. So it was cool. Then. It seems like now everytime they play it, the other team scores on that drive! LOL

Gary Clark is blues and blues rock. Awesome guitar player. If you like Clark listen to the following blues rockers. Roy Buchanan, Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout, Kenny Wayne Sheppard and Govt. Mule to name a couple of really good blues artists.

A buddy of mine used to cook/cater for music artists and Keith Sweat was one of them as was the Wu-Tang Clan.
a lot of people back then didn’t like Keith Sweat. They thought all he did was cry and whine in his songs and needed to toughen up a bit and be more masculine.

Its not a band byname but anything Post Malone puts out that is more pop like then rap are catchy. One of my favorites is Circle , just a great song and eewsy listen. I am in my early seventies so that is saying something .

Post malones virtual nirvana cover concert was absolutely phenomenal. His respect for the music down to the Kurt dress was really well done. He also did a good job on the snl50 concert doing teen spirit

Hard to pinpoint because my tastes are extremely varied. I have more than 1 artist that I like in just about every genre.

Maybe Kenny G? Really talented guy, most of his stuff is elevator music and I can't think of anyone like him that I like besides him, unless you count David Sanborn and Chuck Mangione as elevator music artists as well. Kenny G's first few albums are really good for what they are. And he is a super talented guy. Other than some Christmas songs, I haven't listened to him much for over 20 years. But I just popped some on now on Spotify. So I reserved the right to change my mind and say "this really sucks, not sure why I ever listened to it" and then go back to listening to Lithium. :)

I listen to every genre. From Hank Williams Sr. to The Misfits to Morris Day and the Time to The Temptations to NWA to Alice In Chains.
So there probably isn’t a band per se that would not be in my list of normal genres.

Best answer I could come up with is Vivaldi. Even went to a concert as the Vivaldi Church in Venice. I don’t listen to much classical music, but I love The Four Seasons.

B52's...Weirdly entertaining and not of my straight laced "hey kid get off my lawn" old man classic rock persona...Elvis Costello and the Attractions also.

My fav bands in order are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Queen and ACDC...so for me My love for Prince and Christopher Cross (underrated guitarist) would fit this topic.

I'm struggling to come up with a band that doesn't fit my genre because I have a wide array of genres I listen to. I guess ZZ Top would be on the list.

B52s and devo fit this category for me as well...kind of strange bands that one could say were ahead of their times compared to their contemporaries

Still put the Stones at the top....with an emotional nod to Levon and the Hawks. Knopfler & Co. third.

I had a girlfriend in the early 90s who liked them, and we saw them at an outdoor concert. It was a really fun experience, that I wasn’t expecting. Fun crowd, too.

I can still listen to most of the bands I loved as a kid, and many are from genres that I more or less can't stand today. I've had a pretty eclectic run in musical tastes (alternative, nu metal, pop punk, country, etc.), though most genres were short-lived.
