OT: No wonder PITT receives so little cooperation from the city..........

He usually finds someone else to pay for his trips, so that he can say that the tax payers didn't.
Of course those who "pay" for his trips are just going to wrest it from the taxpayers in the business that they get from the city... no such thing as a free lunch, or a free trip.

The guy is comically awful as mayor. Doubtful anyone would be a whole lot better or worse, among the usual pool that could get in, though. He's particularly insipid though.

The real issue related to this thread though is Pitt was its own worst enemy with the city. Sucking in sports is bad for so many reasons but the lack of leverage it leaves you with politically is probably the most painful. Pitt's leaders have nobody to blame but themselves (and predecessors) there.

All evidence suggest UPMC. 2 of the others on the trip are UPMC employees

Wouldn't be surprised. A third, Mr. Strickland is a Pitt alum. Although the fourth that went, Mr.Sarowitz from Chicago is worth over 100m.

Peduto’s office said the mayor is paying his own expenses during what his office called a “private vacation.”

You obviously had no evidence at all for your comment, just like the others on here who complained about the trip. He is on vacation, which usually entitles people to wear whatever hats they choose. In any case, only in the minds of paranoid Pitt fans does a Penn State alum wearing a PSU hat have anything to do with Pitt.

Peduto is a loser.
Pittsburgh would be well served if we purged ourselves of these Pedophile enabling bums.
The sight of a Ped State hat is sickening.

You’re an ass. Who complained about the trip? Point is he’s an ass here too. Lame to wear any ratty ball cap meeting the frickin Dalai Lama. And he’s also a Pitt alum, the mayor of fn Pgh, was invited by a UPMC dr, went with a UPMC VP and also another Pitt alum and he pulls out his psu hat? No ones paranoid just pointing out you are asses.

Sorry to offend you with reality. Several posters claimed that others, including taxpayers, were paying for the trip. I was just pointing out that they were wrong, as the article that the photo clearly said. And you made my point about paranoid fans being concerned about the hat that a guy on vacation was wearing.

Facts aren’t welcome to a certain segment of posters

The fact is the Mayor of Pittsburgh took a picture wearing sports paraphernalia from an out of town team. It’s the rival of the local team that is also the area’s largest employer and pumps millions into the local economy. Had he worn an NFL hat other than the Steelers or a NHL logo other than the Pens people would be offended. The bigger difference Pitt means a lot more to the local economy.

Peduto is a big Big AHOLE.

The taxpayers pay his salary...so, in point of fact, they are paying for his trip. That is unless someone else is picking up the tab.

Pretty simple, if you don't approve, don't vote for the guy. Chances are, though, you don't live in the city, so.................................

Having lived downtown for the last almost decade, Peduto is a terrible mayor but is in line with so many other mayors this city has had for decades. A lot of the same failed policies/ideologies for decades and why you dont see a ton of new businesses created here despite having top class universities that should foster things like that. A lot of this also comes from the State govt for the 9.99% corporate tax rate. Plenty of reasons not to create or open new offices/business here.

Peduto has tended to focus on national ideologically-driven issues rather than focusing on common sense solutions that have worked elsewhere to design what is best for Pittsburgh and Pittsburghers. Thats not what good mayors do.

Yeah, Pittsburgh is failing.
Lawrenceville, East Liberty, Southside, Strip District, North side, Shadyside, etc. all undergoing major Renaissance. Tons of new restaurants and businesses popping up, tons of housing and high end apartments/condo's popping up, real estate values skyrocketing.

One BIG Fail! LOL

And what are those common sense solutions that have worked elsewhere and need to be implemented in Pittsburgh?

A giant ahole who would never be Mayor if the Allegheny county suburbs voted for the Mayor of Pittsburgh!!!!!!

The people in the suburbs helped vote Rich Fitzgerald county executive, and on the grand ahole scale Peduto is so far behind Fitzgerald that he needs binoculars, or maybe even a telescope, to see him.

Plus, politicians lie. Outrageous junkets like these are being funded by some outside resource. Maybe through a donation to his personal campaign, rather than directly funding his official business. Either way, he (and thus the city) will be beholden to that entity in some way... there WILL be quid pro quo eventually. There's no such thing as free. And no such thing as a politician doing things like this on their own dime. All of them do it, all levels, all parties... but what this other poster alleges to have been said, no doubt it was said extremely carefully with boilerplate language, but assuredly was a lie. Like everyone else, those believing it choose to believe for ideological reasons....or simply they are hopelessly naive or mentally deficient.

The thing is, the value of all theses things are zero point zero to the city and their residents... strictly a ego driven ideological indulgence. The Dali Lama? What a freaking waste, unless you wanted to learn how to improve your golf drive, or so Hollywood has taught us.

So this guy had some company or special interest fund his personal ego trip, useful to the residents for nothing ... and the city will be obligated in some way to do a favor for the 'benefactor' in return ... likely also for some wasteful venture or product that gives no benefit to the residents.

All politicians do this, it's not just him, but the ones that have zero competition, like Dems in Pgh, or maybe Repubs in Texas or such, are more apt to abuse it. And do.

Well sabosewer, losing you obviously hasn't hurt. Thanks for leaving!

Huntington West Virginia and Buffalo are your standards? Good luck with that and you are most welcome. Love being in a place that isn't litter filled and marked by graffiti.
By the way, the article you posted attributes as the "final piece to the puzzle" hydraulic fracturing ("aka "fracking") with shale resources as a job and money provider.
Pedutoburgh banned fracking and he tried to divest all fossil fuel industry holdings...right up until the point in time when it was brought to his attention that virtually every successful venture in PGH relied on fossil fuel byproducts.
What city would elect a mayor that doesn't own any property in that city.

Let's be real. Peduto went to a football factory for his undergrad degree. A place that covered up child rape to protect the football program's image. The better question is this. Why would he not wear a PSU cap while meeting the Dali Lama?

Abe Lincoln was known to tell the story of a country boy who found a young couple in the hayloft: the male with his pants off and the female with her skirt raised. The country boy ran out of the barn to the farmhouse and told his Pa what he saw and that they were fixin' to pee on the cattle.
Pa said "Son, you got the right facts but the wrong conclusion: they ain't fixin' to pee on our cattle."
I believe that is what the poster meant to convey.
