Any Pitt students or recent grads that lived in Oakland out and about today? My kid is moving out of his Pitt residence to a house on the campus side of the blvd of the allies. Any suggestions for best (hopefully cheapest) grocery stores nearby? I do not live in western pa but am not a big fan of the Giant Eagles out there. I know there is an aldi on the south side which I kind of like for a lot of things. Any hidden gems as far as places to eat etc.? Any danger spots?

Somehow, someway he locked into an old house that was completely remolded. They have all new appliances, 3.5 remolded completely new bathrooms, marble counter tops with a freaking kitchen backsplash... all for the ridiculously low price of three times as much as anywhere else in town...

Hah!

Whole Foods in east liberty isn't cheap but it's an option there is also now a super target with groceries and that's cheap. Also Trader Joes in east lib. That's pretty cheap.

Yeah, that about sums up my recollection of the housing stock in Oakland . . . particularly as you got closer and closer to the Boulevard.

Graduated in 2013 and we used to get cheap groceries at this little Mexican grocery place on Atwood Street. Pretty sure they got shut down by the health department though...
